The Grey Pegasus

Pony stuff author since 2012. Writes supposedly good stuff. Still haven't made a break. Still persistent. Probably highly unlucky. Or hated by the universe. Either determined or insane. Or both.

Fun Bits! #2 · 1:16am Jun 5th, 2014

After a bit of boredom, I thought I should at least try and actually commit to keeping to my promise.

After all, I numbered it #1, so there has to be more.

And after deciding that the first thing I chose for today was way too short to justify this blog existing, I chose a second segment as well.

This fun bit is something I wrote up for Home Sweet Tree, hence why it's tagged for this blog. I really wish that got popular, just so I could post it into the comments or something.

It's short, but hey- can't be all long.

I really thought that fic was something good. Amidst all of the depressing tree fics, something lighthearted and a good shout-out to something also well-liked seemed in order.

This second bit is actually everything I have written down for a fully OC slice-of-life fic I was thinking of writing. To give a bit of IRL backstory, the story was supposed to be part of one of my OC's backstories.

The calm splashing of waves against wooden docks.
Seagulls squawking ahead, overhead, and all around.
"Hey hello there, Stratus!"
The stallion was caught in an embrace by a fairly young but weathered griffon, returning the greeting. "Hey there, Pike."
The griffon let go, moving over to the filly following her father, who ran over into a hug of her own, picked up by Pike's strong arms. "And hello to you too, little Miss Starry Skies!"
The filly giggled as Pike gently scratched her head with his talons. "Hi Uncle Pike," she smiled.
Pike gently put her down, going back to talk with Stratus, leaving the filly to her own devices. The pegasus spoke first. "So how goes business, Pike?"
"Aw, doin' good I'd say. Last haul brought in a good lot of fish; good profits. I mean, it's gettin' a bit harder now that ponies themselves caught onto how lucrative the business is, but my grandfather gave us a good head start. How 'bout you?"
"Ah, same old thing. Weather research. Nothing exciting there," Stratus replied.
"But it's pretty inportant work you're doin'! Imagine how much easier my life would be if we understood the weather out at sea more!" he chuckled.
The pegasus grinned. "I'll keep on working, Pike. I hear they're about to make breakthroughs in research tech real soon." He picked up his luggage and continued to walk down the rows of boats.
The griffon walked alongside him. "Oh really? To think how excited you were about high-altitude weather balloons all those years back in school, now you get new toys to play with."
"And you with all your fish hunting gadgets?"
"They're great, but not like they're much different from the sonar my grandpa used in the navy. Now, if I could get something to help me with the weather..."
"Yeah, yeah," he grinned. "I'm working on it." The two reached a sailboat, and they found Stratus's daughter walking around the deck, examining the rigging.
"She's gettin' a real likin' to sailin' by the looks of it," Pike noted. "D'ya think she'll get her cutie mark in it?"
Stratus shrugged. "She could. I won't deny it. She's only nine."
"Well, her dreams could be different from what she's actually good at."
"I don't want to discourage her. Whatever's meant to be, she'll discover it herself." Stratus placed his luggage in the boat and called over to his filly. "Star, can you go back and help bring the rest of our stuff?"
Star flew back onto the dock. "Okay." She began to trot back along the dock.
The two adults followed suit. "You goin' to need help with the rest of your things?"

Still wondering if I should do it. Nothing wrong with the idea. Supposed to be short and simple. Maybe if I have the time.

And that's it for this issue of 'what's stuck on my hard drive', Fun Bits!
