To Rewrite or not to Rewrite... · 7:15pm May 23rd, 2014

I'm trying to decide if I want to rewrite 'In a World without Princesses'...

You see, I had a few ideas that came to me after writing bits and pieces that I found myself rethinking. Adding that to the fact I've gotten complaints about it moving too fast, I got to wondering if it might be a good move? Most of the story would remain pretty much the same, just certain key elements would be considerably different - I can't get into much without spoiling the idea.

Trying to decide if this would be a smart idea or if I should just let it be as I've already written it? On the one hand, I'd get, as said, a chance to revise and improve upon the existing story... but on the other, I might lose out on some very fun points of the story.

Decisions decisions...

I'd say, "Let it be.". No story will ever be completely the way you want it. And I don't think that you were putting them out too fast either.

The Wheel and the Butterfly updates every two to four days, and is the best comedy fic I've read on this site.

I'm still eager to see how everything works out.

You can always rewrite a story. Think of it as a first draft, second draft or whatever. Just because you change major key elements in the premise doesn't mean the story has to be tossed out completely. Assuming that revision means no change in thematic elements is too limiting in my opinion. I've never met a story where adding something to it meant I couldn't figure out a way to adapt the fun parts to fit with it. The fun parts aren't really all that fun after all if they're blocking improvements to a story.

Feel free to do what you want, but as far as pacing issues, I don't see it, to be honest.

True... hm... I might just be able to do that. I've got a hundred and one things I want to change in this story... I just worry that I might lose people who read it once and don't want to re-read certain chapters (although enough should be changed, with what I have in mind, to alter the rest of it at least somewhat)

Eh, I dunno. I'm actually fine the way things are... though if one of the changes will be a shift in the way Big Mac so easily forgives and forgets, I'm for it.
