Pirene's Home Stretch · 5:31am May 12th, 2014

So I've pretty much figured out what's going to happen in the final chapters. Yup, that's right – a two-chapter long climax followed by an epilogue which may run 1-2 chapters. I've developed a good feel for these things over the course of writing this giant book of a fan fiction and I'm pretty sure that's what we've got left.

It's not written yet, obviously. Indeed, the writing is going to be devilishly complex. You can run a good game, but if you don't stick the landing everybody's going home unsatisfied. And satisfaction is what I aim to deliver—to pay off all of the long development we've been together through with an ending that will really hit home.

To date, I've written a novella in Perchance to Dream, and a full novel in Them. Through the Well of Pirene, however, is the equivalent of a full trilogy (or at least a duology,) and has demanded more of my time and energy and attention than I can believe. That I was able to put those two other works out is incredible to me, someone who has been refining his writing skill all his life but only within the last year or two developed the discipline and skill to really go at it. Perchance to Dream was little known, though, a pet project, and Them was a hugely experimental (and controversial!) piece. Pirene isn't merely distinguished from them by it's length, but by the level of anticipation and depth attached to it. One might argue that it's a lot more conventional than my other works, but I feel like it's a great deal deeper and more personal.

It's what I've always wanted to do – write a fantasy series that loads of people would love, like the ones that inspired me as a kid. Not just some pulpy nonsense, but a piece written with all the greatest respect for character, plot, background, and emotional impact.

It's funny, really. Before I started writing this blog post, I felt incredible trepidation about starting. Now, though – it's a bit like Sam at Mount Doom. I've come all this way, might as well carry Frodo's useless butt the rest of the way up.

Heh, frodo needed a hot poker or two to ensure he motivated himself a bit more there. But interesting to see its at the finale already roughly.

From beginning to end; one chapter at a time. This has been a great ride, and I can't wait to see how it all turns out:pinkiehappy:

As I said in my comment on your story. I would buy this story if it was printed. I Really hope you will be some great author in future, And that your Fantasy stories will surpass Tolkien. You certainly have an potential. And I've seen bad stories by inexperienced kid getting really popular, So with your talent you should have it easier. (I am talking about "Inheritance Cycle" By Chistopher Paolini, this series was empty, nearly no backstory, just focus on now, forced mystery and emotionality of child's story.)

I wish you good luck in future writing. If you write something outside MLP, Could you point me to it. I would gladly read it.

I'm still boggling at how you plan to end this story in only two or three more chapters (though I haven't read the latest one yet).

It may surprise me.

Well, time to stock up on comfort foods and prep the happy movies for the inevitable "end of an awesome story" crash I always feel upon the end of a really engaging and well-written story.

That's my silly way of saying that I think your story is awesome and that I really like it, and that I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends while, at the same time, dreading it being over!

Aww. I'm really glad to hear that! Things like that really inspire me. :pinkiehappy:

I hope Pirene never dies, in its own way.

Well, off the top of my head, I can think of about a Godzillion* different side-stories based on the world you've created (provided the ending doesn't blow everything up, that is). So, that being the case, it really doesn't need to end!

*Godzillion: A number large enough to destroy Tokyo.

I am totally open to that.

There's someone who approached me about doing a follow up for Wire's future, which I find quite intriguing.

Then let this story end, once and for all!
I can't carry it for you.....
:eeyup:Okay, it's not going to do justice.
I can't wait how it ends but I'll have to wait nonetheless.

I've always thought, ever since I read though the second chapter that "Through the Well of Pirene" would work well as a full novel if you could get past the copyright issues by changing the canon MLP characters to someone else! :raritystarry:
