Lesson 3

It is true that we created the ponies. Myself and my sister, the banished Mare in the Moon. This world was a wasteland, and we needed helpers in order to rebuild it into a paradise. I am not too proud to admit that loneliness played a part as well.

Our goal in creating you was to give birth to something that could be greater than ourselves. Your forms are based on our forms, but you contain with you a spark to exceed anything our imaginations could ever come up with. That is the purpose of the cutie mark--it is a powerful magic, more powerful than any other we have ever handled, and a fair ways beyond our comprehension. It was only after this that Luna and I gained our own marks.

Lesson 4

I have said that when we created the ponies, Equestria was a wasteland, and that you ponies were created to convert that wasteland into a paradise.

Unfortunately, my sister and I are creatures of that wasteland, and when the conversion is finally complete, it will come at the cost of our lives.

We do not mind this. We have lived so much longer than any mortal-born creature, and achieved far, far more.

That is the reason I do not dwell on my position as creator of ponykind, because if you ponies became dependent on me then you would have no defense against a hostile universe the moment my magic ceases. Because I am hiding you from those who would wish Equestria harm, beings who only respect strength. By the time I take my leave of you, I plan for you to face them as equals.

We did not create Equestria, by the way. It is much older than we, or our parents.
