Pirene Audiobook? · 2:16am Apr 9th, 2014

Gods know I'd love to have one done, but I fear the readers so rarely go for the long ones.

I wonder, is there anyone among you who either is a reader, is interested in becoming one, or knows someone who is and would be willing to do a reading?

I'd love to have a female reader, given that the three protagonists are themselves female, but beggars and choosers and all.

I have a friend who would be happy to do it. She has done a few readings of other things if you would like to hear her voice first.

If you have a tumblr feel free to send her a message. If not, you can message me and it will get to her all the same.

I could read as a pink fluffy pony, but I think that would betray the fic rather then help it.:derpytongue2:

Sorry, I don't know any that do. I would totally hose it over if I even attempted. I suck at doing voices, usually talk to fast all the time, would probably end up with giggles after a bunch of the sentences, and my mic is a piece of garbage.

This would be a great story for someone that does do audio readings though.

This would be awesome.

I have properly treated acoustical space, professional recording and editing equipment, even the time and desire, but I'm no actor. At best anything I did would sound like a Librivox recording.

Since there's so much talent out there I think I'll sit back and let the folks that are good at this sort of thing jump at it but...

I love your story enough I'd donate use of my little recording space (roughly Boston area) and/or assist with editing (anyone who's ever edited spoken word knows this is a pretty serious gift).

If a recording does happen, this would be awesome! I'd like to make a suggestion:

I've seen far too many pony audiobooks that are either only available on YouTube or, if they are downloadable, only half the book is able to be downloaded, or they're so horribly digitally compressed they sound terrible, etc etc.

I would recommend you try to ensure that reasonable quality mp3 files be made available for your listeners. I like, for example, to listen on long car rides, and YouTube is just lousy for that. Maybe it gets YouTube subscribers that way, but it's crappy.

My 2ยข. If you don't have any luck getting real talent to do it I'd take a stab at it, but really you could do better.

Willing to help,
Hay

While not female myself, I'd love to contribute to a reading. I've always felt story readings should have multiple voices. While not necessarily an outright radio play with music and sound effects, I think having different voices for the different characters is always preferable to just one person doing a plain reading. I'm not a professional voice actor or anything (I have done one radio play though), but I like to think I've got a pretty good range of voices and half decent acting ability. So if you're looking for a dumb schmuck to do some voices for some male characters, I'd love to help.:twilightsheepish:

I read all fanfictions exclusively in audio-book format... using text-to-speech software. :derpyderp2:

Sure, it takes some getting used to.

But this allows me to multi-task - I can read fiction while going for a walk/grocery shopping/drawing comics/playing Minecraft/while lying in bed at night with my eyes closed. :pinkiecrazy:

And in the long run, I've found this works quite efficiently for me.

I've been doing this for the past 2.5 years, reading at least a couple minutes of audio books each day if not a couple hours, all the while doing something else simultanously. :rainbowdetermined2:

So yeah, I "go for the long ones" all the time. :raritywink:

And yours is an excellent story I'd be intruigued to hear narrated by a human voice.

There's a tool for that: "Free Youtube to MP3 converter".

I can especially recommend it for downloading playlists. Occasionally stops working properly when youtube changes something, but after a couple of days there's usually a new version to compensate.

1994113 I am aware of this program but I have a couple serious issues with it;

1. I believe it violates YouTube's Ts and Cs
2. It's an extra step a listener should not have to deal with
3. YouTube blows for audio. The only reason I put my audio stuff there is because that's where people expect it. It sounds like crap, usually ends up mono, won't work on a phone unless your screen is on and it's forefront.

YT is great for lots of things, but it's a mediocre distribution method for audio books.

EDIT: mediocre if it's the sole distribution method. It should available there, as well as other, higher quality, easier to access places.

It's very unlikely that I'll be able to get people in that geographical area (unless you know some folks who would be cool doing it,) but I'll definitely ask.

If you're interested, you might be able to do the editing work if the person(s) involved cannot. :pinkiehappy:

If I can get some sort of ensemble together I'll look into the feasibility of doing an audio-play. I'm not sure how best to do that - a group conversation like a podcast, for instance, or perhaps just combining disparate people's recordings together in editing.
I have trouble imagining that I can drag however many people together for 25 10k+ chapters!

Mr. Ridley, she has a fantastic voice - I can easily see her as all three perspective girls. If you can get her that would be awesome.

We can probably find a volunteer to do editing.

1995094 I didnt imagine I'd get anyone local to record, but if things.happen that way I'd be willing to share.

I'd love to help, so if you need me to edit stuff I'm on it.

I wish I had more suggestions for talent for you, but I'm just not a really well connected guy. Were you thinking of directing the project yourself? If so, while being a lot of work, it'd give you input into the acting and editing portions so that tone and emotions are portrayed closer to your vision.

Mm
I suppose people who aren't Daphne/Leit/Amelia would only have to submit lines for their specific characters, which would make it a lot easier.

I'll look into how possible that might be when I get the chance. For now, lemme see if I can't bag my main talent. Whoever does the main three girls will have a lot on her plate.

Getting three Voice Actresses would be stellar.

My friend says she's interested. She is planning on making an account here to get in touch with you.

That is utterly fantastic.
