Testing 1, 2, 3 review! · 3:36am Apr 8th, 2014
I just realized something: every Rainbow episode not only brought the character in conflict with their Element, they also taught somepony else that virtue. Coco, Spitfire, Cheese Sandwich, Seabreeze, and Silver Shell... I wonder if that’s going to come up...
Quick review, because this is a very basic episode, which is good for comedy, but not so good when you're looking for things to nitpick talk about.
We open with an exposition scene. Twilight tries to get Rainbow Dash to study for her Wonderbolts history test. But Rainbow’s laissez-faire attitude contrasts with Twilight’s uptight nature until Twilight tries to tutor her.
The first two thirds of this episode is strictly gag based, though we get a nice history of the Wonderbolts with a G1 reference thrown in. I like Owlowiscious showing off his mischievous side with Spike. The only problem is when we get to the end of the first act. Rainbow Dash fails a pop quiz on the Wonderbolts... a group she’s been obsessing over all her life. Really? She never once read a book by them, or learned any of it in school? Or visited a Wonderbolt museum? What?
The second act is more of the same. We get the pets acting in a play, Pinkie rapping looking like something I might of seen on tv in elementary school, and Rarity showing off a fashion show. All it accomplishes is freaking Rainbow Dash out.
The last third is slower paced, and it gets the job done. All in all, a good episode. Yay, caught up!
You only just noticed that now?
And that was not a mere G1 reference; "General Firefly" was actually meant to be a tribute to Lauren Faust and her screenname "fyre-flye", which is based on G1 Firefly, her favorite pony of that generation.

The reference could've been for both, if you think it that way.
And yeah, Dash in this episode was sorta... off. I mean, you can have her being overconfident that she will pass the test without studying, that sounds more like her. But not caring at all about it and just realizing at the end of the first act that failing would mean losing her chance to become a Wonderbolt? Does that sounds like Rainbow Dash? (spoilers: NO!!!!!)
I wonder what would Soarin' tell to her?
1990754 No, it was definitely Faust.

Whelp... I stand corrected.
It's Silver Shill.

Which means it's still both through the transitive property of alias based on favorite character.
