I'm a mysterious man with a large Viewer list, despite being very self critical of my work. Looking to write professionally someday.

    Where I've Been

    Wow... it's been a while.

So... yeah. Where have I been? I've been at home. And I didn't realize it until this weekend, but I've been pretty unhappy since this whole mess with the pandemic began.

My Little Pony: A New Generation

Well, the last month has been a nightmare of overtime and fixing up my house, but today I managed to see the premiere of G5.

    Look Before Your Sleep

Well, here we are. Another inevitable episode about these different ponies who had little in common now having to put up with each other after having a mutual friend in Twilight. I can picture this already having happened between Rarity and Rainbow Dash, having learned to live with each other after having a mutual friend in Fluttershy.

    Where I've Been

Yeah... I'll bet you're wondering about my absence lately. I swear I didn't mean to take one.

Until the pandemic actually ends (and I mean ends, not just when everything opens back up) I'm going to be working overtime. I'm hoping it's coming to an end, but there is still mandatory hours for June.

I have a lot in the pipes, and I will still rereview the series. Just... please be patient.

More things that don't hold up. You always wanted a slumber party? Why not ask Moondancer and those other five ponies you were already kind of friends with?

Also, I get needing rain, but why have clouds make thunder too? Is this some science thing I don't understand?

This is a simple episode that squeezes everything out of it's little moments, and those kinds of things are needed in a show like this. Still, I think this is the first time characters are boiled down to one character trait for the sake of conflict. Most of the episode is fine. Applejack and Rarity are both shown to have good points at times (Applejack should wash up and not track mud in Twilight's home, and Rarity needs to focus on the big picture.)

No, the problem is when the tree crashes through the window, and suddenly Twilight can't comprehend not using a book, and Rarity is busy making something else pretty. It was a pretty forced climax in an otherwise solid episode.

Well, next time, we get a classic, with the intro of Zecora.

Ah, this was the very first episode I ever saw. I remember it like it was yesterday. There was nothing else on so I decided to humor myself by watching it, believing it would be terrible, only to find myself actually enjoying it. Before I knew it, I was looking up the rest of the episodes and binging the whole series up to that point over the next week, and the rest was history.

She didn't invite her "kind of friends" because she wasn't close enough to them to properly recognize them as friends until Season 5. It taking that long to acknowledge is an example of how much the show improved.

Looking back at "A Canterlot Wedding", I don't get why it's contentious elements caused as much fuss as they did given how much of the early series writing was in retrospect was similarly weak.

Spike was in Canterlot, so there was no way for Twilight to remember that they existed. :trollestia:
But yeah, this could definitely be case of either repressed desire in the name of better study habits, or Twilight telling herself she always wanted a slumber party after discovering the joy of friendship without asking herself why she never had one with her previous social circle.

Also, I get needing rain, but why have clouds make thunder too? Is this some science thing I don't understand?

Could be keeping static charge down to reasonable levels since this is a catch-up storm. Could be because Cloudsdale's lightning lobby mandates a minimum number of strikes per storm. (They're making those bolts, and by Hurricane, they're going to use them!)

And yeah, Applejack may be the designated sane pony (most of the time :applejackconfused:) but that climax can be a bit much.

You always wanted a slumber party? Why not ask Moondancer and those other five ponies you were already kind of friends with?

My hardcore Doyalist answer: because the writers hadn’t yet thoughts of Moondancer when they wrote S1. That’s the problem with backstories: the character’s past is in the author’s future.

Eh... Moondancer was the one whose get-together three of the others invited Twilight to in the first episode, and Spike was going to give her a present. So while they might not have designed her yet...
