Rainbows to be Reading · 7:07am Apr 4th, 2014

One of these days, I'll write a happy story involving monorails... and ponies. Meh.

I don't read a lot. I'm a jerkly ignoramus asshole like that. Some of you know this. Others of you fish for belly button lint.

I feel as though half of the things I write are stories that I *would* lurve to read if they existed without me having to keyboard them into existence. That said, I have a few ideas for long-ass story narratives that I know I'll never have the time or resources to write, but if someone was to write them, by Nietzsche, I'd read the ever loving ovaries out of 'em.

For example...

Lyra and Bon Bon Do America

Best Friends Lyra and Bon Bon have been rooming together for months in Ponyville, hoping for the day they achieve their career goals, meet the stallions of their dreams, and settle for a decent surburban life. Then some freakish circumstance relocates them to the furthest edge of Equestria. Thus begins an epic quest ripe with bizarre circumstance and quirky perils as they struggle to get back to Ponyville.

The story would be very light-hearted, with lots of comical bits and sitcomish moments. It'd be the quintessential "buddy journey" movie, much like the Bing Crosby and Bob Hope films. Lyra and Bon Bon wouldn't be a romantic couple, but rather to close marefriends with different personalities. For instance, Bon Bon could be bubbly and naive and Lyra could be a pragmatist but hot-headed (bit of a tangent, but I'm not a fan of the trope that Lyra is always the goof ball and Bon Bon is the straight-face who constantly puts up with it, albeit begrudgingly).

Once upon a time, I used to be able to write light-hearted adventure stories. I've since lost that touch, so it would be refreshing to see someone willing to prance ahead for the long haul.

Applejack and the Long, Long, Lasso

Okay, so that wouldn't be the title.

Basically, after the events of Power Ponies, Applejack gets the idea to be a non-powered version of Mistress Marevelous in real life. Thus begins an epic story of Applejack's fight for justice across Ponyville and the surrounding townships. Not much else to say about this--just Applejack being a badflank and taking justice into her own hooves while maintaining an alternate identity.

Oh, and she kinda sorta maybe saves Rainbow Dash once or twice as a damsel in distress. Because screw it. Life is short. Dash apples.

In Brightest Day, In Greenest Lyra

Very much like the previous story idea, this is a superhero thing... only it's Lyra having received the ring that once belonged to Hal Jordan after his supposed death.

What's that? Oh, right, this takes place in the same universe as DC. That is to say, Equestria is a planet, occupying a part of the same galaxy as Oa, Earth, the Kryptonian sun, etc. In that vein, I like to imagine that Equestria is eligible for having its own Green Lantern who protects a sector and reports to the Guardians of Oa (or whatever those blue headed SD munchkins are called).

The joy of this story would be Lyra herself. I imagine her as a great deal more shy than most stories cast her, so that being imbued with the force of the ring is a positive, empowering thing for her. This would be a super-super long narrative, with multiple different angles. For one, you have her life in Ponyville as the unassuming Lyra Heartstrings (harboring a secret crush for the popular mare next door, Bon Bon). Then you'd have her training as a Green Lantern, reporting to Katma Tui and other senior Corps members, and then the ongoing quest to discover what supposedly caused the death of Hal Jordan and the grand conspiracy behind it. Last but not least, you'd have her trips (and occasional vacations) to earth where she gets to mingle with these interesting bipeds known as homo sapiens.

The possibilities are endless, and all of the moments of Lyra coming out of her shell and doing super heroic stuff (and winning the affections of the mare next door) sound insanely fun. Also, DC comics exploitation, which is stupidly tantalizing. F'naaaa. It'll never happen, and Nietzsche bless anyone who would even try.

It's a Maud Maud Maud Maud World

No plot to share here.

This is just a title that really, really, really, really needs to be used.

Kung Fu Melody

Another wonky title, but whatever. This is something I was hit with sudden inspiration for a few months ago, but it was far too epic of an idea to possibly contemplate tackling.

Basically, Equestria in an alternate universe is super Asian, with lots of landscapes, cultures, and architecture based on China, Feudal Japan, old Korea, etc. Enter Octavia who is a mute (of course) who travels the countryside with nothing but a sleeping mat and a cello. Much like Ryu from Street Fighter, her only purpose in life is to fight and meet other fighters so she can best them. For the most part, she frequents lone townships where she either saves the locals or butts heads with disgruntled ruffians. Eventually, there's a huge-ass fighting tournament, and she eventually has a climactic showdown with some pony samurai antagonist who's responsible for murdering her former love (Vinyl).

This would be taking tons of shameless inspiration from stuff like kung fu movies, Samurai Champloo, Akira Kurosawa films, and jee I dunno. I like the idea of Equestria being a sort of asian-flavored Jade Empire other-world. Also, the Mane 6 and other ponies would appear in different "episodes" as the "bosses" that Octavia would eventually have to fight (or learn moves from), much like a fighting game. This is something that would be lovely to visualize--be it in comic or animated form--but all I know how to do is write, and I suspect others could make something out of this if they were so willing. And believe you me, I'd read the Hell out of this if someone did it to the end. And I'd be eating Chinese take out scrumptiously while I did so.

Princess Belle With a Minigun Saves Ponyville

Please?

Pretty please?

I think I might already have an idea of how to do the Belle one...

I'd... I'd actually be willing to try the whole Kung Fu Melody concept.

I must note that I am not the most talented or noteworthy author, but, given my fair knowledge of Asian culture (as well as an early childhood spent watching Jet Li movies with my father) I think I could do it justice.

This is effectively a very scholarly way of me calling dibs on that idea until further notice.

I had an idea that was kinda like Kung Fu Melody, but had Rainbow Dash as a samurai traveling feudal Equestria and being badass.

Also, someone needs to write a fic with a version of this conversation in it.

Alright *sigh* writing the Belle one now. Should be out in a few hours maybe.

When ponies trot in circles, it's a Maud world

1980960 Dang it.

Oh well.

I had an idea like that, but it mostly involved that picture making out with this picture:

You could, you know.
Write an actual fic with Twilight as the MC.
Sometimes.
Not a oneshot.
An actual fic.
I'll try not to die of old age to see if that ever happens.

I would like to try my hand at the Green Lantern one. Unfortunately, I know literally nothing about Green Lantern except that their powers are akin to Rarity's from the superhero episode. It would also seem that Kung Fu has been claimed...

Perhaps some Maud is in order.

So many tempting ideas...

~Skeeter The Lurker

I love the 'Lyra and Bon Bon Do Equestria' one, if I do write it, I'll try my hardest to do it justice.

Hmmm... The Lyra and Bon Bon Do America fic seems right up my alley for a comical adventure... Yet I do love me some superheroes, so Batman Applejack and Green Lantern Lyra are very intriguing as well...

Damnit Skirts, so many ideas, so little time!

I'd read the hell out of Greenest Lyra and Kung Fu Melody.

I would eagerly read any of these. Especially if the last one kicks off a "Disney Princess with a Heavy Firearm Saves Ponyville" trend.

Maud Maud World needs to happen. :D

Huge fan of Green Lantern here. I'd LOVE to see that Lyra fic.

*looks pointedly at FimFiction*

WHAT ARE YOU GUIS WAITING FOR?!?!

please write the green lantern and Belle stories soon!

So many tempting ideas to think about and never write

:(

BE A MAN

tldr: Mulan is best Disney commoner/princess/warlord to me.

Unfortunately, none of these ideas interest me.

HOWEVER... Jasmaloo still stalketh me.

"Where My True Heart Lies"
---

Jasmine takes a vacation through the Cross-Fiction Vortex to Equestria, sent there by her true love, Aladdin, for some R&R from the political affairs and intrigue that exist in post-movie Agrabah. While there, she meets an orange pegasus. Her Islamic faith l, perception, and sexuality are challenged in ways she never thought possible.

Will Happily Ever After end with an orange kiss?

I'd say the girl from bio shock infinity would fit better then belle

1980962 You still need to be writing this. More Belle and minigun is never a bad thing.

Well, the the story is... well, it's started. The beginning isn't as smooth as I'd like it to be, but hopefully once I've got the prologue and the first few chapters down I can get into the flow of things.

This is going to be an exceedingly interesting experience.

I'd love to write "Applejack and the Long, Long, Lasso," but if you want to see it done any time soon, give the honor to somepony other than me! I'll dedicate myself to writing it, but I am not one to lash out stories of any size in a fashionable timing; nonetheless, I'll keep on writing it until you tell me to stop!

Hap

Now I'm imagining an Odd Couple crossover.

Only if you hit 4k followers.

I really, really, really, really want to see the Asian one. I'd never thought about it before, but that could kick some ass. I'd read it. Hell, if I was good at writing I'd write it. However, I can't soil the concept with my words. I can't think of an author I'd like to write it more than
Skirts. Still, if anyone writes it, I'd give 'er a go.

Personally I'd like to see the first one, and possibly the second...

Okay, yes the second. More apples need to be dashed. :rainbowkiss::ajsmug:
