[Educational] Handgun Terminal Ballistics: the TRUTH · 4:37am Mar 29th, 2014

Inspired by the many educational blogs about the modern military by totallynotabrony.

There are a LOT of myths and misconceptions on what a handgun can and will do.
I myself harbored some of them in my own thoughts as to be true.

These videos taught me a LOT of what I thought I knew, only to discover that I had a LOT more to learn.
And this is coming from someone with a lot of experience with guns, including military experience.

If you want to know what a handgun can and cannot do, and just what a bullet does inside the human body, then watch these videos.

I've only used a real handgun once. I was only twelve at the time, but still knew how to handle a firearm. Thank you, video games. The father of an old friend of mine was a cop, and we asked if he could teach us to shoot. The other kids missed pretty much every shot since the recoil scared them shitless. I hit every can with only one shot each, and I was proud as all hell :pinkiecrazy:

1963715 That hitting your target right from the start sounds very much like me!

I'm not one for pistols. (Probably since the first one I shot smacked me in the head with the recoil, like this girl)

However, I'm a pretty good shot with a .22 Long. 30 yards, no scope, hit 7/7 targets. Only problem with the gun I use is that when the barrel warms up, it throws the sights out of whack, so when I finish the 20 round box, I am only hitting around half the time. First ten rounds, all hits. Last ten rounds, five hits.

1964232 Ok, on the topic of her getting hit in the head with the .50AE Desert Eagle:
She has hands way too small for the gun The Desert Eagle is MASSIVE, with a huge grip. She would have has a much easier time holding on to an AMT Automag V, which is the same caliber, but the grip is smaller. I know this from experience, firing an LAR Grizzley in .45 Win Mag. If you cannot get the proper grip, it WILL try to get away from you. Mistake number 1. She was using an Isosceles stance. A modified Weaver stance would cause the gun to pivot away from her head and over her shoulder. Mistake number 2. Lastly, mistake number 3 was on her friend's part. She was obviously unprepared for this, so he should not have given her such a gun to fire.

Now, onto the .22 rifle you was firing. The .22LR cartridge does not produce a lot of barrel heat, due to the small power of the round, combined with the soft lead alloy of the bullets. I can only surmise that the rifle was a youth model with a VERY light barrel. Not only do lighter barels heat up quicker, they will warp a lot more due to heat. Also, most beginner's rifles are not built to the standards that more expensive models are, so that will be a factor as well.

1964281 I was 5 at the time, firing a .45. My father really hadn't thought it out. The .22 is a youth model, but my uncle uses it for hunting with his other nephew.
