The Day of the Dead Anthology

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a now-famous tradition from ancient times that has been a huge part of Mexican Culture through the centuries. Like so many things in Mexico, it's influenced strongly by certain aspects of the Aztec people.

It has shaped the way those of us with that heritage look at life and death in many ways, and most importantly on the remembrance of, and honoring the deceased. We traditionally decorate little altars dedicated to the memories of those that passed away… but it's not a somber occasion.

PSA: Using AIs to Write and Publish Stories in Fimfiction

Hello everyone, this is a PSA (Public Service Announcement, for those of ESL) to put to rest consistent questions about using AI to 'write' stories and publish them here. This is not intended as a poll or a request for feedback. It is exclusively a clarification on an already-existing rule.

People ask: "Can I, oh great and powerful D, post a story or chapter that I got ChatGPT to write for me?!"

And the answer, my friend, is... No.

Absolutely not. Not in a thousand years!

    Because you didn't write it.

It is not your creation. You are NOT the author. In fact, you are the opposite.

There seems to be some confusion when interpreting the following rule:

    Don’t Post (Content)

    Phishing Awareness

Have you ever found yourself in a situation like this?

And then you magically find yourself in a suspiciously familiar site, except that you're not logged in, and it requires you to do so?

Well. Don't log in. This is a scam, and a cheap one at that.

There've been recent attempts to obtain Fimfiction users’ personal data, like passwords and/or emails through links like the one I'm making fun of above. And a distressing amount of people don't seem to know what phishing attempts are.

If you HAVE entered a site like this and put in your data, make sure to follow these basic steps at least.

All Our Best [Royal Canterlot Library]

As should be obvious from 15 months without a feature, life has taken the Royal Canterlot Library curators in different directions. While there’s still plenty of awesome stories being written in the My Little Pony fandom, we’re no longer actively working to spotlight them, and it’s time to officially draw the project to a close.

Thank you for all of your support, suggestions, and comments over the years. We’re grateful to have been able to share seven years of exemplary stories with you, and give more insight into the minds behind them. In the spirit of the project, please keep reading and recommending fantastic fics to friends—the community is enriched when we all share what we love.

    Reunions: A Swapped Roles Contest!

Okay guys here's something fun presented by Nitro Indigo.

Presented by me, I guess, but I digress.

Last year, I (Nitro Indigo) noticed that there was a surprising lack of roleswap fanfics on this site. To fix that, I decided to run a roleswap contest over the summer themed around secrets. While it didn’t get many entries, it nevertheless attracted the attention of some big authors and was the origin of two of my favourite fics. Overall, I think it was a success, so I’ve decided to run another one!

    Minor Rules and Reporting Update

Hope everyone is enjoying the new year.

Some small changes have been made to our rules as well as to the reporting process.

    Rules

"No attacks directed at individuals or groups due to race, gender, gender identity, religion or sexual identity."

This better clarifies our previously ill-defined hate speech rule and includes groups as well as individual attacks.

"No celebration, glorification or encouragement of real life criminal activity."

This includes past, present and potential future crimes.

    Jinglemas 2019

There's truly no time like the holidays. What's better than copious amounts of food, quality time with family and friends, hearing the sweet sound of Trans-Siberian Orchestra on repeat, and unmanagble financial stress from our capitalist overlords?

    Gift exchanges of course!

Site Post » Group Thread Notifications · 7:38pm Mar 19th, 2014

This was actually the first thing I changed yesterday but with all the roleplaying stuff it got glossed over...

As a temporary measure, group thread notifications are off. They were making up about 90% of our notifications and were enormously problematic. In the near future you will find them in your content feed instead, but for now there's always the groups page in your user toolbar.

Oh now you add the cute pony pic to ease the bad news.

I was wondering about that…

Vexy #4 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 3 ·

Yes! :rainbowkiss:

There's a good little knighty.

I am soothed by the Fluttershy.

I already have all of mine turned off except small groups. They get kinda annoying for me.

Yeah, we were wondering about that...

Out of curiosity, how does moving the notifications to the content feed cause less problems than keeping it in the notifications bar?

I give that decision many huzzahs, my friend! :pinkiehappy::yay:

My notifications are 90 per cent cleaner.

People are still going to complain about this, probably. The truth is that it's Knighty's site and he can do what he wants, if you like it or not. That's the sad truth, but it's still the truth.

Still, he's been trying to fix the problems so the site doesn't crash, and for that I thank him. It's not like he's getting rich of this site or anything. Good on ya, Knighty. Don't let constant complainers get to you. This is still my favourite site on the web, and I'd rather have it working well.

Now mah content feed will be a gigantic mess! :raritydespair: Oh well.

Well, there's the problem that it's a bit harder to see when threads are made because they don't show up as notifs, but okay.

I can't help but approve. Group threads can be a bane on my existence. If I see a social notification I'd like it to be about a comment or fav or watch.

Hm. Okay. I can live with that (no wonder I only had two notifications today!:derpyderp2:).
Honestly, I liked it when we could check the threads in our notifications, but you know, whatever you'd like to do, you are the Great and Powerful Knighty.

But I would like something else that has the group threads in it besides the group tab, but that's just me. I guess this means I'll have to check up more on the groups I like...:scootangel:

In the near future you will find them in your content feed instead

I never understood why they were in notifications to begin with. They're content akin to blog posts. :derpytongue2:

I am actually pretty happy about this. :pinkiehappy:

This is probably, in my personal opinion, going to be a better system for the site and its running. Sure, it'll take some getting used to, but I'm sure we can manage. Right, guys?

...

Right?

Can't wait to see how many people are going to B'AAAAAWWW about this one :rainbowlaugh:

As long as the group threads wont be blocked with social site updates off.

Well, I suppose that is sorta alright.
Although I wish their was still a way to know when a thread comes out...:pinkiesad2:

Glad to see that change was made, it got to the point where I would be gone for a day or two and come back to find 300+ notifications :facehoof:

In the near future you will find them in your content feed instead

Will they be collapsible like the "stories added" posts?

I support the new changes. :3

Probably the best change you made there, Knighty. Those things get really annoying.

But how will I find out about what the latest "Would you stay and live in Equestria with pony X if you had to have [Insert degrading anatomical rearrangement and/or references to constant cumflation here] done to you?" thread is in the clop group!?
1939280 You could turn them off for particular groups!? Praise Knighty for fantastic features! Curse my utter lack of discernment!

Guess this does not effect me as I turned off notifications to my feed from the groups I am in when I join them.

I prefer to actually go to the groups to see what is happening at them.

1939275
Now now, Princess, a pony of your status should not speak with such a snarky tone of voice.

FUCKING FINALLY

Thanks knighty.

1939339 I'm the Princess, I do what I want. *flies away on my pet rainicorn*

1939349
...Okay then.

Thaums #33 · Mar 19th, 2014 · · 1 ·

I was really confused when I didn't get 60+ notifications from groups today. Thank you.

Well, that explains my problems. Is it the same with replies?

knighty
Site Owner

1939367 No, all other notifications are still working normally.

1939369 Oh. I guess i just haven't talked to anyone since yesterday... While i can talk to you, mind holding a poll for new Emoticons?

In the near future you will find them in your content feed instead,

Content feed? What's that? Are you talking about the icon with the planet Earth on it?

RNIEUD FREOEVR

Yay! a step in a positive direction!

It's not to bad really, it will help me organize a little better, the only problem would be I have to turn off all the story notifications in each group, because they really mess up my feed

1939306 Same here. I never quite liked the current setup, because "somebody commented on my story" and "some yahoo I don't know made a thread in a gigantic group" look the same at first glance, and one of those things is something I'm much more interested in than the other!

I'm surprised how many people are expressing joy over the change for making it so that they don't get spammed by group threads. You guys know you could turn those off for a group?

:scootangel: Whew I was wondering what was going on, thank you for letting us all know Knighty!

1939279 Fluttershy tames my hatred and anger. Though I wouldn't mind seeing this 1939281 question answered. How does the movement ease server traffic? Even if it doesn't I still support the measure, the site doesn't let me turn off fimfiction's desktop notifications, so this change means I won't be harassed by that annoying box in the corner every twenty seconds while writing.

1939289 That is a great gif for this situation whether you support this or not. :rainbowlaugh:

Thanks for the update. I was wondering why all of a sudden my group notifications were gone. Here I thought it was something I had done on my end.

This actually makes notifications much cleaner for me, as you pointed out: thank you.

Although, my feed's still blown up.

hooray for mass unfollowing day

My feed was spammed with a thousand or so items when I joined the Writer's group, so this seems like it will be a refreshing change.

1939397

I presume it has something to do with the way the site processes feed updates as opposed to notifications, but probably only knighty knows for sure.

I may not like it but I'll deal with it.
