So, after fimfiction's latest 502 error apocalypse Knighty hath emerged from the ashes and rubble, and he hath proclaimed thus: "role playing shall be no more!"
Now, if you've been paying any attention to Knighty's blog post (or the blog posts of dozens of other people, including Wanderer D, other mods, and some of these aforementioned role players), you'll have noticed quite the shitstorm hovering over fimfiction.net. I know what I say matters little to most people, but on this note I would like to throw in my two cents.
First and foremost, my deepest apologies to those of you who will be losing your role playing threads, but fimfiction is not nor has it ever been a dedicated role playing website. I won't deny that role playing has become a rather major feature of this website. Hell, I happen to greatly enjoy and support one role playing group in particular. But again, role playing was never the intended purpose for this website, and to all of the role players that can be found bitching rather viciously at Knighty in his blog, this is a fact that you just have to accept.
Does it suck? Big time. But you should have all of these forum posts backed up somewhere if you care about it so much. I understand that role playing is a major part of peoples' lives and some of your best friends are fellow role players, I really do, but that is not what fimfiction is intended for. This is a website for fanfiction about pastel coloured ponies. And the fact that role playing threads were a major contributor in the latest 502 apocalypse, I have to side with Knighty on this one. Are we losing a feature of the website that a lot of people enjoyed? Yes. But, just like with NSFW posts, I understand why it has to go for the betterment of the rest of the website and for all of the users.
If you take a look at Knighty's blog, you'll see he is no longer removing groups. All that he's asking is that you take your role playing to a website or system that is actually intended for and dedicated to role playing. Skype, gdocs, MLP role playing forums, etc. are all viable choices. I've also seen a few people complaining that there are few forums that will allow for NSFW role playing without paying a fee. I call bogus. Skype and gdocs will happily support you there. As for the people whining that they're losing their friends because of this... that simply is not true. Your accounts and groups are not being deleted, so you can surely still get in contact with each other, and it really is not that difficult to set up a role playing thing elsewhere. If you guys love it so much than I find it hard to believe that you are not willing to put in the effort to continue it somewhere else.
Lastly, to those claiming they no longer have a reason to visit this site because role playing is banned, I reply with an honest and confuse "Huh?" This is not now nor has it ever been a role playing website. This is a site for fanfiction, end of story.
Please don't go screaming at the mods, my role playing friends. There are some very venomous and frankly immature comments in Knighty's blog that are only making your situation worse. The mods are not nazis. They are not creating some fascist regime as some people are claiming in Knighty's blog. They are just doing their job: optimizing the website for users to enjoy for it's intended purpose.
Not much else that I can say other than I agree with everything you've said. This is a website for fanfiction, not roleplaying, no matter how big a part of the site it may have been.

To roleplayers:
Fuck off.
All you're doing is using a forum to communicate your roleplays with each other. You can literally do this anywhere that allows you to communicate together. You can do it on some instant messenger, chat, or other forum. You have nothing tying you to this website other than you happen to have found your group here.
So rather than bitching that you're not allowed to fuck things up here anymore, instead just use it to find your friends and playgroup, then do the actual roleplaying somewhere else. You get all the functionality of fimfic that you used to use and still have reason to come to fimfic and make use of the site. Just in a far more resource-friendly manner.
Stop being self-entitled, lazy shits and pay the fuck attention. Nobody is stopping your damn roleplays. Just the abusive part where you inflict excessive server queries without actually contributing to the main purpose of the site: fanfiction.
