Flaming Swamp of DEATH!!! · 12:04am Mar 10th, 2014
I totally want to use that in one of my stories. I don't know how, but I will (maybe it's an initiation ritual for one of the Legions that they have to run through that thing without armor or weapons and come out alive on the other end)
And Chimeras!
1912286 That too
So like Basic at Paris Island... except with less fire.
Also chimeras have already existed; except we call them manticores, griffins, and pegasi
1912337 Well, something closer to the classical Greek Chimaera (animal with a lion's head, a Goat's head on it's back and a snake tail), but yes, those other animals would be considered chimeras
1912346
That would be Chimera with a capital C.
Have you ever seen The Princess Bride? I would bet my life that's what it was based on. Furthermore, I will now accept Lightning Sand and Rodents of Unusual Size in any fiction as having basis in canon (the comics have already featured carnivorous rodents anyway).
Not... really as difficult as you might believe. Wetlands – i.e. swamps – are one of the biggest natural producers of atmospheric methane that there are; just light that methane on fire... and then have the swamp produce enough to keep itself on fire indefinitely.
(Of course, anything that produces that much methane, that fast? Actually safer to be on fire, than not!)
Maybe even have that particular Legion be the ones responsible for said swamp burning in the first place, hence why they're out there: methane + stray weapons fire = BOOM. Part Badass Initiation, part moral lesson about always checking your targeting, done.
That is suicide.
1913446 Perhaps, but compared to some of the initiation rituals for canon 40K Space Marine Chapters it's actually rather benign
1913883 If you say.
There better be rodents of unusual size.
1917832 Well of course there would be ROUS; what flaming swamp of DEATH!!! wouldn't be complete without them?
