Twilight floated a second fritter up to her mouth when she realized the first was gone. “What is in these things?” “Mostly love. Love ‘n about three sticks of butter.”

Blast from the Past: Now 100% Less Likely to Get Me In Trouble

Hey, some of you guys remember that thing I did a long time ago, where I wrote up 50 questions about headcanon and suggested people answer them on their blogs, and then, like, everyone on the site wanted to do it, and then the site mods sent me nice but stern messages suggesting I cut that shit out because it was spamming people's feeds?

    Full Circle

Wanderer D posted a touching retrospective of his time in fandom, and that made me remember the very first I ever heard of the show.

(Potential implied spoilers but maybe not? below.)

Background ponies, whatever... wait, who's THAT? · 6:01pm Mar 8th, 2014

So, um, after two years of staring blankly at people who care about background ponies, from Derpy to Vinyl Scratch to Soarin, I get it.

Because I saw this guy today, and he's awesome.

Really vague spoilers?:

I don't even know his name. I don't know how to write a Cajun accent. But this guy is cool in a way that would make Trenderhoof faint. He's just real, not even trying awesome.

Also: Cajun. Not hillbilly, not redneck, those ponies are obviously Cajun. I will downvote comments that don't respect the bayou ponies.

Anyway, I don't even know if fandom will care enough to give him a name, but if you know one or have any ideas, Jake's collecting them for me here. EDIT: Best one I've heard so far is from a reddit thread Bradel started: Marty Grass.

I LOVED this episode so much, in general. It's the only one so far this season that's easily in my best list. Well done, new writer.

Grass Hopper
Cricket
Chamber Bitter
Green Kyllinga
Dallis Grass
Any combination of the above.

I'm tempted to call him Spring Onion, just because that's kinda what his hair looks like.

Anyway, I don't even know if fandom will care enough to give him a name

Then fix it. You have a blank slate here. Go create this pony and kick out a few stories about or having to do with him.

There's probably a reddit thread with people debating names right now. That's how most of the background ponies get their fan names.

Then there's the writer twitters :P

I'm just trying to get down a workable Cajun accent first... it's not something I have practice with.

1907530
I actually kind of like that one!

But... now that I'm looking at it, is his cutie mark lily pads?

1907546
That or three leaf clovers?

1907543
If I knew anything at all about reddit, I would stalk that thread.

I will downvote comments that don't respect the bayou ponies.

Wow, it's like I'm really on Reddit!

As for a name, what an obvious Cajun one like Big Easy? French Quarter? Bayou Billy? Big Boudin? Luke Gumbo?

1907659
:rainbowlaugh: "Grass Tafari" That's terrible!

1907704
Not half as good as the first thing to pop up in the reddit thread since I started it, though.

Marty Grass.

After some consideration, I'm convinced that Marty Grass is in fact M.A. Larson's OC.

Wouldn't surprise me!

:pinkiehappy:

His cutie mark looked liked lily pads to me too. So maybe something to do with the river?
Billabong (Billybong? Hmmm... sounds too stoner)
Oxbow

...Nah, I think I like Marty Grass more too. Does he have a kid? You could name the kid Po' Boy.

As for a textual cajun accent,.. your Applejack's not too far off already, cher. Just remember y'all want a few more 'dey's and 'dem's and the occasional Fancy phrase now. Y'all got 'dis fuh sho'!

1907659 heh. Now we just let it spiral out of control :P

'Twas a fun episode which I enjoyed quite a bit.

Can't say it was as good as Sisterhooves Social though, which carried more emotional weight. That said, perhaps it's not fair to compare the two since the sister pairings work quite differently from each other (AppleJack and Apple Bloom don't need to show each other love because they know it already).

Now can we have a Scootaloo and Dash episode please? And I know we had Sleepless in Ponyville, but that only set up their relationship. Now we must explore it further and put it to the test.

Gambit respects your ability to recognize N'Orleans.

Ragin' Cajun is best pony.

I don't know how to write a Cajun accent.

Take a really heavy Mississippi/Missouri accent and sprinkle in some French, then no one will know the difference. Most people think all Southern accents are the same, anyway.

Bayou ponies? I needed a Disney's Princess and the Frog crossover three hours ago, people!

I love it more than words can say.

Davenport is still best Background Pony in my books, but this guy's a close second. The feeling you described is the same one I had when I first say good ol' Davey.
Also, I'm just going to call this guy Dreads, if that's alright.
