I guess I can do a little fleshing out in this space. When I started to formulate this story a few months back, I had been thinking about biology in Equestria. There are an awful lot of chimeras. Hybrid creatures. Things like manticores. And minotaurs. And Discord. Whatever he might be. And in the back of my mind, I started thinking about a patchwork pony. Something of mysterious parentage. And, along with this line of thought, I began to wonder how a society based on love and tolerance would deal with a creature that completely defied classification. Now, before you say “Discord!” let me remind you, Discord has been classified. The strange fire-flatulent foal does not have classification. Does not have a name. And will almost certainly always be viewed as a “what” rather than a well defined name that allows her a place within society.
While this will never be explicitly stated in the story, she is half hippogriff and half dracony, to use a recently minted turn of phrase. She will never know this.
I intend for her story to be part of a much larger one. At least, I hope. Her character is complex, and I didn’t think I could do her justice by simply introducing her as a character in a story, without fully understanding where she comes from, why she is the way she is, or why she does what she does. Some understanding is in order, for when she moves on to play a supporting role to another character that I have in mind.
Anyhoo, thanks for reading and giving me a chance to entertain you. It has been a long, long time since I have done any sort of creative writing, and I fear that I’ve become a bit rusty. Please be forgiving as I rediscover my skill.
