Sweetie Belle's Magic Aura is Green?! · 4:58am Feb 26th, 2014
This shouldn't bother me that much. It's certainly not the worst thing canon has ever done to a writer. You would think having your main character suddenly working for an alicorn would be a little worse - but I know how to handle that.
Sweetie Belle's magic is green. It's a rather pretty shade of soft green, but it's green never the less.
It's supposed to be blue. This is a disaster!
So, do I ignore this? Edit my stories to give her a green aura?
Wait...maybe her aura is only blue when she spell-sings...? Hmmm? Never mind.
Oh, and thank you all who responded to my previous blog, and let me reassure everyone who read it that I feel pretty good now.
Obviously she is a changeling.
Fan Fiction, where you can go "**** it, his name is Snowflake and Sweetie Belle has blue magic because I'm use to it" and others can just deal with it.
I mean you don't see people going back to change Octavia's last name or rename Bulk Biceps just because canon said something different than fanon. Trying to keep fics completely consistent with canon that came after them while a nice thought is kind of unnecessary.

Um, yeah, it is. Remember in One Bad Seed and the train station waiting for Babs, when my horn sparked? It was green there, too. It was a weird blue when it was lifting me by the horn in the season four premere and making fabric attack me, but that was probably 'cause of those seeds. Or it was my sisters magic.
Not all unicorns are like this, but most unicorn's magic is the same color as their eyes, actually...

I on the other hand am elated, green is my favorite colour. & I always believed that Sweetie Belle had green magic.
(which means my subconscious mind was bugged when I first read your stories.)
Anyways, Fan writers shouldn't be upset when something canon contradicts their work; there's nothing to do in that situation but either keep on telling your story as you intended or change your stories to fit better with canon, if you think that would better suit them.

1874772 I think comparing Trixie's pink magic to her purple eyes is a stretch. And of course the Sun Princess would have a golden aura, despite Celestia's violet eyes. I can be forgiven for being fooled, I think.

Yeah that surprised me too. Until now pony magic auras have tended to be some flavor of magenta/cyan/yellow. I guess they wanted Sweetie to be special?
Starting in season 2, they have been using cutie mark colors for aura colors, with certain exceptions. Season 1 was kind of grabbing out of the basket. I had Shining Armor/Cadence's auras reversed, actually. SA is girly pink, and Cadence is light blue. Since Sweetie doesn't have a cutie mark yet, they probably just used eye color.
You can always have aura colors change over time as they shift education and power levels.
I kinda like the idea that her spellsinging results in a different aura colour. Though, you gotta wonder why that would be the case. Clearly a puzzle Quizzical and the CMC must solve.

T: "Now that you mention it, it does seem like it was blue before."
SB: "...Oh dear."
Q: "Sweetie Belle, that is my expression."
Fic writers must continue on un phased by the power canon.
As it burns thru barriers of fics young and old.

the color is based on eye color, cutie mark, or mane color. Whichever color they enjoy or like the most.
It's blue.
If you, Mr Author Writery Man, say its blue . . . then IT. IS. BLUE.
