While this pertain more than just to the Cutie Mark Crusader story, it's going to pop up more with the trio of fillies.
It's been brought to my attention by TangoForce that the technology used in my stories is odd in comparison with the show (he says he thought the show was around industrial age). I'm not making this blog to call him out on it, I'm just doing this to set the records straight in case it didn't come through clearly in my stories.
So aside from creative lenience (the ability to make it however I want), I've actually thought the show was early modern times (maybe USA 1990's? maybe a little bit of the 2000's?) due to Vinyl Scratch's DJ rig as well as the things used in the hospital (in read it and weep) (the machine above Dash's head as she layed in bed, the fact they have x-rays because the doctor has a cutie mark of one and they had pictures of Dash's wing structure, as well as the 'normal' looking light fixtures). Flashlights, the machine that was used to blow dry Winona in 'just for sidekicks', machine used to make taffy in sugarcube corner, thing to measure wind power, arcade games (outside no less!), and so much more. Seriously, this show has more technology than people realize.
That's why I think Ponyville is just a little stuck in earth pony traditions and wants to keep the 'rustic small town village' image going; so I image that if anypony in town does have higher level technology, they don't flaunt it as much. Though I think it's lessening since they have an arcade for kids outside and all.
So again, while this is for all my stories, the CMC is going to have the most technology which is why I tagged it.
While I agree about the possible time period, I do not believe it is limited to Ponyville. In Rarity takes Manehatten, we see skyscrapers throughout the city, which is industrial revolution tech, while also seeing that even they still use chariots. My conclusion is that technology is only pushed for a purpose. They needed a way to house more ponies in less space, so they needed a means to make buildings taller. Transportation on the other hand, doesn't need to pushed further at this point, as chariots and locomotives are sufficient for their purposes. They may develop further if there is conflict, but that is highly unlikely.
