Modes of Totalitarian Evil · 4:55am Feb 10th, 2014
Thinking about the types of totalitarianism to which each of the three kinds would be prone.
The Pegasi are easy. They're militaristic and obsessed with athletic superiority. Evil Pegasi would yearn for military supremacy, justify their right to rule both by might and by their glorious military past, and in short be Fascists. Even possibly Nazis -- if they could think of a good reason to eliminate their "inferior" members, even more so if they could gain some power by doing so, I really could see a Pegasus National Socialist Republic building deathcamps.
The Earth Ponies are also easy. They extoll the virtues of labor. Evil Earth Ponies would set themselves up as the representatives and controllers of Labor, crushing all who opposed their demands. In short, they'd be Communists. The Unicorns are aristocratic and elitist. I'm envisioning something like the Central and East European Imperialism of the Central Powers of World War One, probably becoming increasingly ruthless as time went on.
Been thinking about this because I've been thinking about the possibiity of subversive revolutionary factions emerging in Equestria, probably under external influence, and trying to figure out exactly which lies the puppetmasters would push to each Kind.
I'm not sure their militarism would necessarily make the pegasi fascists. They might just strive for another empire like the one previously in place.
I was deliberately reaching for their "evil mode" -- namely the form which their totalitarian impulses would assume. For the record, I don't think that the only alternative to liberal theocracy (or thaumatocracy as Prof. Ashen Smirk calls it) would be totalitarian: it's just an obvious possibile danger. Note that I gave "evil modes" for the Earth Ponies (communism) and Unicorns (authoritarian technocracy) as well.
