FaleYur's Monthly Fic-Picks #2: February 15, 2014 (Top five fics updated on my page monthly)

Round two is here! Still no pictures, 'cause my computer's a finicky douchebag that only wants to size them at about 4000x2000, and some of them not sized at all. Eeyup. Also, if you want more review-y goodness and an awesome group of people to yell at, you need to check out the review group I'm part of, The

    For Whatever Reason...

So, its been brought to my attention that for whatever reason, my newest story on the site, Temporal hasn't been recognizing the new chapters I've been posting as updates. They still appear on the story as new chapters, so it's obviously doing something, but its not sending out notifications pertaining to the updates, and it hasn't been

    Equestria's "Villians"

While perusing youtube, I came across the following videos. They are some badass portrayals of the origins of two of the main antagonists of the MLP universe. The first one is of Discord:

FaleYur's Monthly Fic-Picks #1: January 19, 2014 (Top five fics updated on my page monthly) · 9:54pm Jan 19th, 2014

So I'm doing reviews now. Yup. READ ON! (There's no coverpics because my computer has an issue with sizing them. Oh well, I guess you'll just have to go and read the damn things to find out what they are.)

5). Starlight Over Detrot: A Noir Tale

-There are few fics out there that can make such a manic-depressive asshole with a serious death wish a great character. Detective Hard 'Hardy' Boiled fits into this category shamelessly and effortlessly, as he is thrown into the proverbial ring against drug lords, effeminate dragons, and his insane and bloodthirsty boss. Combine this with the dark, drab world of the sixty-year future Detrot, and you have a dry-humoured, darkly paced noir which stands true to its name.

4). Mordane Stronghoof (Act One)
-This HiE fic features a human trapped in a monotonous, boring lifestyle who is transported to Equestria through a form of astral projection. But don't let that fool you, because the first few chapters are about as akin to your regular HiE fic as a mouse is to a hydra. Blood spills early into Mordane's adventure, sending him treading down a dark path in an equally dark world. Though our favorite six ponies are present, the wold lacks the bright humour that they usually bring us, replacing it with an oppressive, omni-present gloom throughout the story.

3). Blue Angel
-When it comes to long-ass fics, I myself am terrible at writing them. Which only proves to enhance my amazement that people can elongate a story to such lengths and still have it consistently awesome. Humour and near-death experiences abound, this remains one of the only fics that has presented an accurate show of budding relationships, as many stories fail to do. These things take time, and V-Pony has both the ability, and the patience to drag the shipping out most infuriatingly.

2). The Griffon War: A Soldier's Memoirs
-Intriguing main character? Check! Moral choices and war-time ethics? Check! Accurate representation of war and sacrifice? Double Check! Fitting amount of views and likes for a story of this quality and caliber? NOPE, not check. The last category still grinds on my nerves every time I think about it. Dusk Quill has created a bloody epic with lovable characters and a gripping plotline, yet he remains one of the most unappreciated authors on this site. I'm not going to talk about this story anymore, but, rather demand that you drop what you are doing and give Dusk Quill some much deserved love. Seriously, if you're looking for a war-fic, you're not going to find one better than this. Now go, and while you're at it, check out the successive sequels as well.

1). A Song of Storms: Of Skies Long Forgotten
-This undeniable beauty of a fic delves deep into the forgotten past of the revered Commander Hurricane, from his humble beginnings, to the contact between the three pony races. But the space in between the two times in Hurricane's life is hardly unoccupied. The Pegasus homeland of Cirra is besieged by Griffons, and a power-struggle for the life, land, and honor of the Pegasi is staked in a deadly battle of empires; a war that instruments the formation of modern-day Equestria. And as much as I hate to contradict myself so early, I have to make the distinction that gave this fic the number one place over The Griffon War clear. While The Griffon War has all of the aspects of the perfect war-fic, A Song of Storms and its respective sequels stand to be the only fics that have made me actually shed tears for the characters, as they are so well paced and realistic. Insanely gory and vicious to the end, A Song of Storms gives us an unaltered, in-the-thick take of the events leading up to the Windigo incident in visceral detail. Ready your head-canons, cause they're about to get rocked.

So ends the first set of my recommended fics! How'd I do? Leave some feedback if you find the time, and for the LOVE OF GOD go read these! The authors didn't write them just to sit there and twiddle their thumbs after all, they deserve some likes! Also, my own fic is imminent in coming, set for sometime between now and the end of the month. It contains gratuitous amounts of Timey-Wimey bullshit, so be prepared for that. I have the next five story reviews set for February 15th, though it may come early, depending on school and life.

Regards from Canada,

Well, first... What is your favorite genre of stories?

1738171 hmmm... I'd have to say AU or Sad. Maybe a little bit of Adventure thrown in the mix there. But I have to request, nothing with Humans in it. For some reason, humans and ponies just don't mix in my head... :facehoof:

Well, I can promises that there wont be human stories. But you can skip stories you don't want to review, just as long as you let the other people know in your folder.
