Octavia's Reprise - Chapter One - Author's Note

STOP. FULL SPOILERS FOR Octavia's Reprise - Chapter One BELOW!

First chapter to my first story; woo! I'm so excited!

I've decided to change my author's note from the bottom of my chapters to blogs; with my rambling and occasional explaining of little things, I'd rather my own thoughts not get in the way of enjoying the story. For those who are enjoying the story and want a little more information about each chapter, this is the place for it! In addition, I'll most likely be posting author's note blogs a week after a chapter is published; that way I can let readers digest the chapter a little before I start throwing details at them.

I just want to start by saying that, yes, this story is inspired and largely based on two of The Living Tombstone's songs. Almost every single lyric was taken and I constructed this story and its characters around them, although you probably won't see much of that in this chapter. I also want to say that, yes, I know, stories concerning Octavia and Vinyl Scratch are by and large overdone, but when inspiration hits you try to not question. I hope you guys are willing to give yet another a shot :)

I'm also going to be dropping little fandom Easter Eggs into some of the chapters. This one, for example, has one at the cafe Octavia visits. The sights are largely taken from kanashiipanda's "Once Upon a Time in Canterlot" on YouTube. For anyone unfamiliar, it's a fantastic little custom animation of Octavia kicking some tail. Of course, it served as inspiration for the scene, but the Tavi seen here in my story is obviously very different and thus reacted very differently to the Changeling swarm. I thought about having this version similarly skilled in martial arts, but... It just didn't fit my vision for the character. Not for this story, anyway.

Another little dropped nod can actually be found in her apartment; it's my understanding that certain members of the fandom are divided on whether or not Octavia plays a cello or a double bass, so I've ensured that she's known for playing both. She plays a cello at the beginning of the story, to be sure, but after returning to her apartment it's mentioned she has another case larger than the one she carries in. Just me trying to make everyone happy :)

As far as the apartment itself goes, I based it on the same structure that I envision Octavia and Vinyl share in TheBrianJ's "Exit Through Canterlot", even though I'm pretty sure he never mentions a second floor in his story.

ANYWHO. With this being the first chapter and all, I really hope I've grabbed some of you guy's attention! Part of me is a little worried that it's a bit slow at first, so hopefully the chase after helped liven things up a little. I'm obviously a little new to this, so comments are greatly appreciated. Right now some concerns I have are over trends I'm come to notice when I write; I type fast. I get all my thoughts out quickly. As such, I tend to switch between tenses are use the same word multiple times without meaning to. After reading this thing a few times though, I think I've proofread most of it out.
