I was recently doing some more internet surfing and it donned on me that bronies are REALLY protective of Fluttershy.
I mean, stay with me here. She's one of the most popular Big Mac ships (regardless of the fact that the two have never interacted before and the only common grounds they share being quietness), she gets some of the most important placements when the ponies are crossed over with something else (even if another pony would fit that role better), and seems to be probably the most popular pony of the show (second only to maybe Rainbow Dash). Finally, any story that revolves around her, you can expect her to be uncharacteristic to varying degrees, the blow being cushioned by the use of the word 'um' and the phrase 'if that's okay with you.'
I have no problem with these things, but it's an interesting thing I noticed after looking around - some bronies will actually get upset if you do something with Fluttershy they don't like, such as ship her with somepony other than who they think she should be shipped with or something. I'm not sure if her adorableness activates some need to protect or what.
All I know is she secretly likes hamburgers.
Why no, not at all. As much as I'm a fan of Fluttershy (heh, as if my avatar doesn't give that away
), I am disturbingly aware of this whole 'waifu' phenomenon. A perfect example would be one of our most recent episodes, "Filli Vanilli".
Pinkie Pie has ALWAYS had a habit of being innocently insensitive at times, but many bronies felt that she went MUCH too far in this episode, to the point where the poor writer of this story even got DEATH THREATS, all because Pinkie Pie made Fluttershy cry.
Well, I've got a harsh fact of reality for this 'love and tolerate' crowd: if it was anypony other than Fluttershy...no one would give a shit! We'd just laugh and say "Oh Pinkie Pie, you crazy!" But no, we sympathize with Fluttershy simply because she's cute and innocent. (efuel)
Sure, Pinkie was a little annoying, but I don't think she deserves all this hate from most of the fandoms' protecting their precious 'waifu'.

I don't hate Fluttershy - I just find her fans annoying (the particularly zealous ones). They seem to forget she's a fictional cartoon character.
