What is with 'Human in Equestria' fics? · 11:45pm Nov 8th, 2013
Srsly.
I can understand when the goal is to be humorous (such as the case of my 'Saxton Hale in Ponyville' story), and using... not-self-inserts. But a lot of people write these stories with the weirdest ideas. Characters inexplicably go to Equestria when they die, or are teleported there for reasons that hardly make sense. It's weird when it's a self-insert. It's even weirder when said self-insert falls in love with a pony (while still being human themself).
I dunno, a lot of time, these fics seem like wish fulfillment of the creepiest order.
You're not deep enough mate. Submerge your head in the poisonous waters that make up this fandom.
They are wish fulfillment. Think about it. A significant amount of this fandom (like lots of fandoms) is made up of outcasts or near outcasts, watching a show about how everyone's loved and happy and everyone knows what it is they're gonna do right after puberty. A show about magic powers and colors and almost completely without conflict. People like that wanna BE there.
You telling me you can't get behind that idea, even conceptually?

Fun as I think it would be to be in said world, I never feel the urge to write about myself being sent there for reasons beyond rational thinking or as some sort of side-tracked afterlife. Maybe I'm jaded, or simply not as into the fandom as some, but I believe there must come a point where you say 'you're trying too hard to escape.'

Not really. Seems to me it'd be much easier and far less creepy just to write a story about an OC that's basically you in pony form (without any indication to having been human once)

Wish fulfillment, definitely. I mean, sometimes I think the world is crappy, but I don't stories about me going to Equestria, being treated like a king, and screwing every pony there. I can realize when things go too far.
