Well, in a way they are warped mirror images of each other. Rarity is a Canterlot Filly at heart, with strong family ties to Ponyville, which Applejack is a Ponyville farmer at heart, who has been touched by the big city and liked it, but has more important things to do now.
Rarijack has really risen in my estimation of late. Used to was, I sorta lumped it in with all the other obvious slap-slap-kiss antagonistic pairs like Twilight/Trixie, but... I'm sorta looking at it more seriously than I used to. Especially since I'm growing increasingly suspicious that Dash might not swing that way, which leaves my headcanon looking for Appledash substitutes.
I'm still holding a torch for Rarity / Blueblood-who-has-since-become-less-of-a-dink-somehow, though.

A friend of mine has been working on me for (has it really been?) well over a year now, and she's got me more or less to buy in to the pairing. I would like to see their canon relationship explored in a second episode, and I'm hoping that the rumored "Rarity Takes Manehattan" is a (platonic) Rarijack story.
