Okay, the season finale was out of this world.

indeed, the inmediate higer rank in the chain of command is Major, then comes Lieuteant Colonel, then Colonel, then Commander, and finally General (I don't know if you're going to put One star Geneal, Two Star General, Three Star General, Four Star General and Five Star General), I recommend you to check(If you're ok with it) the US military ranks in Wikipedia to give yourself the Idea, I'm telling you from experience because I' writting a Military style G.I.JJOE/MLP:FIM sort of Crossover, so I had to do ressearch for ranks and the order of the chain of command
