A Change of Process · 6:25pm Oct 14th, 2013

Not that there was very much of a process anyways.

In a previous announcement I mentioned that I would not likely have time to write very much anymore. That has not changed. I still do not have very much time to write, which is why my blogs have even been getting shorter.

Rather than punishing you all by writing something mildly entertaining and somewhat pleasant, only to stop writing it halfway through due to circumstances, I will be changing the way in which I do business.

From this point onward, any new stories that I create will not be published until they are completed. This means that there will be no updates, no long waits between chapters for stories you enjoy, etc. etc.

I realize this might be disappointing to certain people, who actually enjoyed the updates, sporadic though they were. But take a moment to think of all the benefits:

1) The next time I write a fourteen-chapter story, you can read all of it at once.
2) You will never have to get the opportunity to complain about a month-long cliffhanger again.
3) That's pretty much it.

I realize the list of "good" isn't necessarily staggering, but let's all be honest with ourselves: at the rate I am going, it is better for me to do it this way. A year from now, you might all be surprised to find me releasing three fifteen-ish chapter stories, in completed format. Or one a couple months from now, I don't know, that all depends on what kinds of breaks I catch.

This will give me greater freedom to write what I want, when I want. I will be able to jump between stories as often as I please, and come back to those that interest me or scrap those that do not without catching anyone else in the blender of my chaotic mind.

So, while it's probably not the best solution for everyone, it is the best solution for me. Currently released stories that have not been completed are exempt from this rule: meaning I will continue to update both Shroudbearer and Legendary, not that I really work on Legendary much. That story will probably never be complete, just for the record.

If it helps, think about it like this: this is the Razorbeam version of a one-shot. Most one-shots are about 6-15k words. Mine will be somewhere between 100-120k, if previous trends continue. Granted they won't be one chapter, so that's probably breaking the mold, but the analogy stands.

Hopefully you can all understand and even learn to enjoy this new process, even if it means not getting much content from me.

Don't forget me,
Razorbeam.

Well I hope you at least still blog. It'd be nice to be able to confirm you're still alive...

Oh, I'll still be around. Probably about the same amount as in recent months, as a matter of fact. If the FimFiction groups held anything that interested me, or if I could stand the "forum" format here, I'd probably be more active. Sadly nope.

So, while stories might become undetectable until release, you'll all certainly know I'm not dead. Somehow.

Well, if it's the best solution for you then that's what counts.
Meanwhile I will begin looking forward to 100k word binges.

The switch is understandable. I hang around writing forums often, and many veterans encourage aspiring writers to follow this style: toss out that horrid first draft, and then spend the time after that hammering out the story into something great through liberal editing (something I'm told is the hardest part of the process). And if the published guys from the world of outside wholeheartedly recommend it, then it's got to work, right? :rainbowwild:

In any case, I noticed that working on stories piecemeal actually does, to an extent, kill the pacing of releases and adds a factor of tension to wanting to stay on top of updates (sometimes sacrificing quality to meet that self-imposed deadline). Better to just cut out those problems entirely and just leave the story to be worked on at your own leisure.

We'll never forget you, Razorbeam.

Do what you need to do, my friend.

Stay dapper!

Did you consider maybe finishing a story and then releasing one or two chapters a week? That might satisfy the people who enjoy the updates, but im not sure how your editing process goes and it might be annoying to sit on story that you can still change freely between updates.

I would prefer to release the story in its entirety if I happen to have it done. I see no reason to make the people who want to read it all at once wait to do so. It is possible for someone who wants to read one chapter a week to do that even if the whole story is there; it is not possible to do the opposite.

Works...
As long as I know, you will at least somehow exist, I'm okay with it.
Because I fucking love y- the stories you make... and you ♥
