What eats my time · 4:46am Aug 21st, 2013
(Note: This is meant to be a joke, don't take it seriously.)
So since a few people have commented as to wanting more of the story, I am going to explain what I am doing when I'm not writing.
1) Hanging out with friends
2) Working
3) Chores (mainly cleaning and buying food)
4)Sleeping and various other bedroom activities
5) Homework and this is the big one. I'm a undergrad in Chemical Engineering and here's an example of some of the problems I have to do.
(This problem is taken for Element of Chemical Reaction Engineering 4th Edition by H. Scott Fogler)
The first-order irreversible exothermic liquid-phase reaction (A to B) is to be carried out in a jacketed CSTR. Species A and an inert I are fed to the reactor in equilmolar amounts. The molar feed rate of A is 80 mol/min.
A) What is the reactor temperature for a feed temperature of 450K?
b) Plot the reactor temperature as a function of the feed temperature.
C)To what inlet temperature must the fluid be preheated for the reactor to operate at a high conversion? What are the corresponding temperature and conversion of the fluid in the CSTR at this inlet temperature?
D) Suppose that the fluid is now heated 5 degrees C above the temperature in part C and then cooled 20C, where it remains. What will be the conversion?
E) What is the inlet extinction temperature for this reaction system?
Additional information
Heat capacity of the inert: 30cal/g mol degreeC
Heat capacity of A and B: 20cal/g mol degree C
UA: 8000cal/min degree
Ambient Temperature: 300K
t=100min
delta H of reaction: -7500cal/mol
k=6.6*10^-3 min^-1 at 350K
E=40,000cal/mol K
Yeah, tend to take some time and I have four classes of this stuff, all handing out multiple problems due within the week.
Also I know most (i.e. all) of you aren't actually complaining and just want more of the story and are either fine with the wait time or you are just teasing me, which is alright (to a point). Really I just want to point out that I'm an engineer and all you liberal arts majors can suck it. (Just kidding, but seriously engineering isn't easy)
Ugh, I don't remember anything about Chemistry. I probably should, but I don't. But good luck with that! If you are sticking to it so far, I think you can complete it. Just put your nose to the grindstone, and write when you need to take your mind off of this crap.
