    Fragments From The Archives

Hey folks! It’s been a while. I hope everyone’s doing well over here.

I was going through some old files, and I found a bunch of unfinished stories I was working on, way back when. I’ve posted three of them in my scrapfile for whoever's interested.

    I Am Technically Not Dead

So, new story. My first since 2013, actually. It might be my last.

New Holiday Story: Where The Heart Is

I've posted a new story about going home for the holidays. You won't see it in your feed, because the mods in their infinite wisdom have decreed that sufficiently short stories aren't actually stories, so this blog is to let you know that it's available in my

Help Me, And Win A Free Commission

Thanks to Chris, I've been thinking about writing style recently. What is a style? Do I have one? Do I have more than one? How can I tell? “Thinking really hard about these questions” doesn't seem like a good way to get answers, since my most common problem as a writer is that I don't communicate the ideas I mean to communicate.

Ben Day Party Horsestravaganza 2013 · 3:01pm Jun 10th, 2013

I will be a quarter-century old on Friday! You know what this calls for?

BRACE YOURSELVES FOR INCOMING FESTIVITIES

—I'll release my newest story! [1] You guys like changeling redemption stories, right? Well, this is not entirely unlike those.
FICTACULAR GIVEAWAY! I'll write short [2] pieces for two lucky winners. Leave up to three prompts in the comments! I'll choose one and pick one randomly. [3] I'll try to have these published by June 21!
—I'll go to the store and get more exclamation points! This post is burning through them at an alarming rate!

[1] Warning: dark. [4]
[2] Say, 500-1000 words.
[3] Anything hideously inappropriate will be discarded, but I'm sure you weren't going to ask for a sprawling adventure epic in 500 words, right? Right?
[4] I mean really dark.

Twenty-five! Oh man. No wonder I'm the villainous half of our immortal rivalry. I've got 11 years on you. (I've gotta get all that evil out of my system productively, or else I'm gonna go all Republican as I age, and nobody wants that.)

> I'm sure you weren't going to ask for a sprawling adventure epic in 500 words, right? Right?

Ben plz. :ajsmug:

• A sprawling adventure epic in 500 words

(And, since you're choosing randomly and more entries therefore means more opportunities for havoc…)

• A My Harshwhinnial fanfic
• A Mortal omake in which Twilight outlives all of her friends and that makes her very sad

(Edit: Alright, your honeyed words have convinced me. Strike one opportunity for mischief, add an opportunity of mischief of an entirely different sort:)
• A Ponyville Fiasco playset

:trollestia:

Leave up to three prompts in the comments! I'll choose one and pick one randomly.

Princess Celestia Hates The Feature Box
Sunny Skies for Twenty Minutes
In Memory Of Those We Left Behind

it must be done

1) Princess Rainbow Dash
2) "Let us never speak of this again, shall we?" "Eeyup."
3) A look behind the scenes on the set of Friendship is Magic.

Happy birthday! Yay! :yay: I still have seven years on you, though, so you'll have to hurry up with the aging if you want to catch up. :derpytongue2:

Ooh, those other ideas look neat. Um, okiedokie, ideas, hmm..

- Alicorn Zecora
- The crusaders manage to actually get their cutie marks in something dangerous/x-treeeme. How do the adults react?
- The Worst Villain Ever (No, I don't mean Gilda.) Bonus points if it includes a monologue or musical number.
:twilightblush:

I wasn't actually going to leave prompts, but 1136369's was just a little too awesome to let me not comment in here.

Princess Celestia Hates The Feature Box
Sunny Skies for Twenty Minutes

:rainbowlaugh:

Okay. Prompts, eh?

- Cutie Mark Crusaders, Volcanologists!
- Fluttershy and the Dead Parrot Sketch
- Shining Armor is actually a disguised bear.

> Shining Armor is actually a disguised bear

Well, to be fair, there is precedent.

Frankly, I think I like yours better than mine.[1]

The best part of Filler's prompts is that he hoist me with my own petard.

1138730 1138918
I'll just leave this here.

1138969
Oh my.

Why did anyone bother leaving other prompts? We should have just forced two of those on you.

happy premature birfday wishes. may all the pone that you wish be yours and more.

unsolicited prompts:

!) A Pony, A Plan, A Canal, Ponama
@) Ponies are just people wearing colourful fur/skin
#) Luna and Celestia are devices for exaggerated parallelism (#shotsfired)

i would be happy to write a celebratory return flashfic if you end up picking one of my inane ideas

hope you have a good cake!

Happy birthday!

Prompt 1: So, remember that scene in Mortal where Rainbow Dash talks with Rainbow Dash and Rainbow Dash? Let's have that for real. Rainbow Dash the pegasus has a conversation with the ponies she would have been if she would have been another type of pony.

Prompt 2: All of the princesses are out of commission and as an element bearer and a unicorn, the world looks to Rarity to figure out how to work the darned sun and moon.

Prompt 3: Fluttershy accidentally gets accepted into the Wonderbolts. Somehow.

Prompt 2: All of the princesses are out of commission and as an element bearer and a unicorn, the world looks to Rarity to figure out how to work the darned sun and moon.

Oh my. Something very similar to this actually came up in the planning for... I believe it was one of PoweredByTea's stories, but I may be wrong about whose story it was.

Honestly, I think this has oodles of story potential. A lot more than 500-1000 words' worth, but it's up to Benman which prompts he wants and what he wants to do with them, of course!

The fateful moment is upon us!

My choice is:

A sprawling adventure epic in 500 words

Because screw you, horizon, that's why.

Fortune smiles upon:

The Worst Villain Ever (No, I don't mean Gilda.) Bonus points if it includes a monologue or musical number.

I've got two ideas for where I could take this: the silly one or the really silly one. Or maybe I could take it in a direction that isn't silly at all...
(One could argue that I've already done this, and in the form of a musical soliloquy, no less. But that would be no fun.)

Thanks, everyone! I've had fun watching the promptstorm. I'll try to have these done by next Friday.

And let me point out that there are some good ideas lying around here, if anyone wants to pick them up...

Natal felicitations!

My good fellow, you brought this upon yourself. I am a mere catalyst, sir. I save my active evil for occasions like writing "My Harshwhinnial". Or procrastinating for over six months on editing stories. :fluttershysad:

1144213 Oh jeez, I'd forgotten you'd written that already, now I feel dumb. :derpytongue2:

Quarter century makes 25 sound so much older than it really is.
