According to recent tweets from McCarthy (shown below), Twilight does not outlive her friends. Doesn't really affect anything in either fic, saying so now (well, except arguably The Legacy of Twilight, but it won't pertain to the story).
However, allow me to point out four possible ways she means Twi doesn't outlive her friends. I may or may not be playing with these in the future (quote the hell out of me if you want, but for Celestia's sake, use the right quote. Don't leave out the "or may not" part).
1. Twilight, despite being an alicorn, lives a normal life span. This means Cadance does as well, because Cadance ascended to alicorn-hood the same way Twilight did (Crystal Heart Spell details this).
2. Twilight may give up her alicorn powers. Part of me would be okay with this, but at the same time, part of me likes Twilicorn. She's earned it, she should keep it.
3. Everypony in the Mane 6 becomes an alicorn. I'm not okay with this, I'll be honest. That would be such a show-breaking copout.
4. The Elements of Harmony bestow eternal life on all the Mane 6. Justifiable, in that Celestia and Luna wielded the EoH pre-Nightmare Moon, and they're both still around. And the Mane 6 are the first Bearers since them.
Any more conspiracy theories to report?
