Yes, Gold Accounts are real, but right now they're just in the testing phase. That's why they seem to be assigned to random people (although as some have astutely pointed out, they are assigned to all users who have an ID ending in 0). We're just testing out the feature for bugs right now, and while the status doesn't actually do anything at the moment, we're making sure there's no site-breaking bugs with it right now. We'll be ready with a full explanation of all the features Gold Members will be able to enjoy in a few days!
Incidentally, since gold accounts were my idea, they won't be properly introduced until after April Fools day, to avoid confusion like the ownership change.

You're right: they're only assigned to users with IDs ending in 0, and everybody sees themselves as Gold (that part is a bit of an April Fools prank, I'll admit). But.. you've not figured anything out here. You haven't "pulled one over" on me. You didn't figure out any math. I just admitted that it's just for bugtesting purposes. We needed a large set of users and we didn't want to just use everybody as that would be worthless.
