Question of the Week #100 · 2:23am Apr 5th, 2023

Welcome back to the question of the week, I hope you're all having a good week so far.

Wow, can you believe this is the 100th Question of the Week blog? :derpyderp1:

So, I've been working on hosting a Cyberpunk story contest for the Cyberpunk Equestria group in the hopes of encouraging more cyberpunk stories. Now I have the rules abd prizes set up for it, now I just need to get two more judges and establish a date to start and end the contest.

So, my question for this week is, how long do you think a contest deadline after the contest has started should be?

I'm looking forward to your answers and I'm hoping that some of you will consider participating in the contest.

May you all stay safe and have a wonderful week.

Depends on the types and length of stories you're looking to generate. Short stories like 1k to 5k I'd say a month, looking for more in depth cyberpunk tales like upwards of 10k to 20k, I'd say two months.

I would be interested in joining since I once did have some cyberpunk ideas a year ago.

Though, I haven't really written anything serious for almost a decade now. The last time I wrote, it was the first/second-ish time I wrote something not meant for school and posted it on fimfiction. It was honestly, after years of reading, really bad.

I like a month or two. I mean, I might not finish it no matter how long it is :ajsleepy:; but still

I'd say the same as Fortunate Rose, it really depends on the length of the stories you aim for the participants to go for, how complex the contest parameters are, and how many end up stating they're going to participate for sure.

In general though, I've seen contests run for at least a month to allow for writers to plan and write their stories, and those usually asked for a 3-5K minimum word count for entries to qualify. Maybe that can help act as an indicator for how long you want to go with.
