Vinyl's former best friend Octavia comes to Manehattan after being in Canterlot for five years.

After realising her dream was not playing in the Canterlot elite Octavia moves back to Manehattan. Though how will Vinyl react when her former best friend in the world comes back after not having spoken in five years? Will their relationship ever be the same, or have they both changed?

A/N After I had to cancel my old VinylxTavi fic I decided that I would start a new one. There's really no similarities from the last fic to this so don't fret if you have not/have read it. Now I'll have to give a huge shoutout to NotTheOP for editing my story once more. That guy is my savior!

The last goodbyes of the evening were spoken and the bar emptied. That was except for an exhausted bartender and an unconscious DJ. This was nothing new to the humble owner of “Joe’s bar”. Every week for five years Vinyl had come to his bar. Usually she only drank healthy amounts, but this was just one of those days.

Usually he would order a taxi for the drunken mare and send her the bill later. Today, however, fate would decide otherwise. Blissfully unaware of the mare trotting down the street towards his establishment, the bartender picked up his phone and dialed the number of Manehattan’s taxi service. He was interrupted, however, by a couple of soft knocks on the door.

“We’re closed!” The shout was replied to with another two knocks. Realizing the potential customer probably would not just walk away, the owner walked over to the door. “I told you we’re clo- Octavia? Is that you?”

“Hello Bartender Joe, long time no see. I would love to talk, but I have to find someone. You would not know where Vinyl Scratch is, would you?” A polite smile showed on the earth pony’s face. She’d clearly picked up on a heavy Canterlot accent since the last time he’d seen her.

Joe looked uncomfortable. Despite being gone for so long Octavia still recognized the little signs. The way his eyes would flicker to the left, then he would stare at off to the distance for a couple of seconds before coming up with an excuse. This was not his stronger side however.

“She’s not really very talkative at the moment,” he said with a forced smile.

“What happened?” Octavia’s face turned dead serious.

“She drank herself unconscious,” Joe replied with a sigh. “It’s just one of those days.”

Octavia did certainly not remember Vinyl ever doing that before. “Does she do so often?

“She seems to do so once a month. I haven't really paid it too much of my mind, but now that I think of it. Usually she has those days at the end of the month.”

Octavia visibly winced at this. She could still remember the day before she’d left.

It was a Saturday afternoon, but due to heavy rain the bar was almost empty. The two best childhood friends were sitting in their usual booth. It was in the corner of the dim lit place. If not for the rain hammering the windows, complete silence would have engulfed the bar.

None of the ponies wanted to start the inevitable, so the silence stayed. Vinyl’s expression was unreadable due to the glasses covering her eyes, but Octavia knew she was just as annoyed, desperate and sad as the cellist. Both had too many feelings bottling up inside of them. Eventually the tense situation was too much and Octavia spoke up.

“You know that playing in Canterlot has always been my dream, Vinyl. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. Why can’t you just come with me?”

“Because there’s no way an aspiring DJ can make it in that stuck up place. Face it, if you go to Canterlot you’re off on your own. I can’t always be there for you if you keep taking the path that leads away from me.” Vinyl’s voice was scarily void of emotions.

“Can’t you just-”

“Give up my own dreams? Quit my career to follow you into my own misery? No Octavia, I can’t, and if this is your final decision, then fine. You’re on your own from now,” Withouteven dignifying Octavia with a bye the white mare rushed out of the bar and slammed the door shut behind her.

The next day Octavia boarded the train for Canterlot and her new life. It had been five years since she had that fight with Vinyl. It was at the end of a July month. Was that why Vinyl had drunk herself unconscious? Octavia could feel the confidence she’d built up earlier that day fade slowly into nothingness. What had she been thinking in the first place? Because she realized that playing in Canterlot was not her true call after all she could just come back to Manehattan and everything would be fine between her and Vinyl? She wanted to just turn and run away, never look back. Maybe starting a new life in a smaller town?

“Octavia?” The voice snapped her back to reality. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I was just thinking.”

“Well, I’m going to order a taxi for Vinyl. How about I leave her a message that you’re back in town and you guys can meet up here tomorrow?”

“Thanks a lot. It was nice seeing you again Joe.” She gave him a hug before turning to leave for her destination. Spitfire’s holiday apartment. It was not a long walk; however Octavia’s mind was not in its usual state. She was not going to lie to herself, at the moment she just wanted to lie down and break into tears.

By the time Octavia reached her destination she was on the brink of a breakdown. All the memories and feelings that had submerged in her by her arrival were way too much for her to handle. She started fumbling with the key Spitfire had given her earlier.Just as she got it out of her saddlebags the door opened in front of her.

“Octavia, you’re here already? How’d it go?” The fiery maned wonderbolt asked her face filled with worry. Octavia could not hold it back anymore. She fell down on her haunches and started sobbing uncontrollably. “H-hey, it’s gonna be fine Octy. Come inside and tell me what happened okay?”

Octavia seemed to calm a little. “I’m sorry, it’s just it’s been so long. I d-don’t really wanna talk about it right now. I just wanna go to bed. I’ll tell you everything tomorrow okay?” Exhaustion was written all over her face. It had been a long day filled with emotion and she was clearly not in the mood for talking.

“You talk when you’re ready okay? There’s food in the fridge if you’re hungry. Your room is to the right at the end of the hallways, there’s a private bathroom in it.”

“Thanks a lot Spitfire, it means a lot to me.” Octavia gave Spitfire a quick hug. “Good night.” She started walking down the hallway.

“Night Octy,” the wonderbolt called after her.

Octavia did not really pay the bedroom much attention. She just slumped down on the giant bed and buried her face in the pillow. Right now all her body wanted was sleep. However, her mind would not let her. When she finally drifted off to sleep she had no idea how long she’d lied there. There was one thing she did know; tomorrow was going to change her life. All she could do was pray that it was for the better.

Headache, check. Dry mouth, check. Absolutely no memory of yesterday what so ever, check. Vinyl tried slowly opening her eyes, but as the first rays of sunlight reached them she winced. She reached out for her sunglasses only to find that they were not in their usual spot. There was a moment of panic. Okay, calm down Vinyl. Try and remember what happened yesterday.

“Ugh, right. Hangover.” She facehoofed only to have her hoof connect with said glasses.

As Vinyl thought, yesterday was one of those days, and today was gonna be even worse. She finally managed to crack her eyes open, only to have the full power off sunlight beaming at her face. Of course she had forgotten to close her curtains. She should be glad she even got into bed.

Her apartment was not really too big. Actually it was pretty small, but she liked it. She’d always been a fan of cozy. Despite the rumors her apartment was not an uncontrollable mess. Heck, compared to Tavi’s hers was one of a perfectionist. She mentally kicked herself for thinking about the past, it was not like her mood was not bad enough from before.

She grabbed a glass and filled it with water. She gulped it down and filled another, and another. Finally she’d satisfied her thirst for water and her headache had dampened slightly She walked back into the living room where she spotted a note on the table. She slumped down on the sofa and picked it up with her hooves- one of the biggest problems with hangovers is that you can’t use magic during it- and started reading.

Heya Vinyl!

You had too much to drink again yesterday. Yes, I know, I’m a good friend, please come by the bar at around two P.M. to pay for the cab. Also there’s someone here who wants to meet you.

Bartender Joe

Vinyl took a glance at the clock. One P.M. She let a groan escape her mouth and turned to the bathroom. Today was gonna be a long day.

Twenty minutes later she was trotting down the streets of Manehattan. She’d decided that she would get there earlier so she could settle the debt before whoever wanted to meet her arrived. Who would want to meet her anyways? Maybe someone wanted her for a gig? She’d been doing a lot of smaller gigs lately. That was probably it.

When she finally arrived at the bar it was ten to two but the bar was pretty much empty. Vinyl looked around the room but saw no-one. After a couple of seconds of hesitation she walked in.

“Joe, you there?” Her voice was a little shaky. She’d never enjoyed being alone in public places, it just felt wrong. She was about to turn and leave when Joe came out of the backroom

“Sorry, I was just doing some paperwork,” he said with a frown.

“You don’t look so good, what’s up?”

“They’re threatening to close up the bar. Business hasn’t been too good lately.”

“What? They can’t just close the bar! Is there anything that can be done?”

“Unless I can increase my income by thirty percent within the next week, there’s no way it will survive.” Their conversation was interrupted by the door opening behind them. Both ponies turned, one mouth agape and the other with a smirk. There was a silence.

“Octavia, you made it!” Joe called out to try and break the ice. No response. “Heh, I think I’m gonna go work on that paperwork again. So you guys can talk privately. Heh, you get the deal.”

This did nothing to help the tense situation. Both mares stared at each other for a long time. Vinyl’s emotions hidden behind her trademark glasses, Octavia’s emotions hidden by years of training. Just as Octavia decided to take the initiative and talk up the last thing she expected happened.

The only way to describe it was a white blur, followed by a thump and a warm face pressed against Octavia’s. Was Vinyl trying to kill her? No, she could still breathe. What was the white mare doing then? W-Was she hugging Octavia? No way, she had to hate Octavia for leaving like that.

“Tavi, you’re back! I’ve missed you so much. Can you please forgive me? I did not mean to shout at you like that. I just really, really missed you! Please forgi-hive me!” Vinyl cried out in a blur before she started sobbing uncontrollably.

“Wait, what do you mean forgive me? You’re the one who should be hating me! I just left you here to chase after my stupid dream. I should never had left in the first place. Can you please forgive me?” Octavia could feel tears building up herself.

“I never blamed you in the first place.” At that very moment both mares understood how stupid the whole situation had been. A single conversation. A single visit. Heck, even a single letter would have been enough to clear this situation a long time ago. Instead they’d both struggled for five years. Anything that reminded them of the other would send them into a fit of tears.

And now here they were. But what exactly was this then? They had both changed. Things would never be the same. It could go straight to Tartarus, or it could become something wonderful again. Either of the mares knew, but both were willing to take the risk. After all those years it could not possibly be worse.

“So, how was Canterlot?” Vinyl spoke up again. Now wearing a smirk despite her tear covered face. Octavia could not help but smile herself. She was finally reunited with the mare she’d so foolishly abandoned. And that was all that mattered. Right?

Well, that and the feeling she had not realized she held for the mare currently hugging her. Of course that could be dealt with later. It was not like any of them were going anywhere anytime soon.

“If you could stop choking me maybe we could take a seat and I will tell you all about it,” Octavia replied with a giggle.

Reminiscing

Octavia and Vinyl sat in what used to be their booth in the bar. Vinyl was intensely listening as Octavia told her story about her life in Canterlot. About how she’d joined an ensemble and how they became well known over the course of the years. About how they had gotten to play during the Grand Galloping Galla, despite the chaos it was one of her best memories. They were only interrupted by Joe bringing them a drink each. When he was gone Vinyl had a question lingering in the back of her hear.

“But why did you come back? You had successes, wealth, friends. You even played at a royal Galla. You achieved your dreams! Why return back here?”

“Because despite the fame my dream was not playing for those stuck up ponies. Also might have to do with that my dear friend Spitfire made me realise how much I really missed you.” Instead of the usual comment about how cheesy that was Vinyl usually would give Octavia, she had dropped her jaw.

“You know Spitfire! The Spitfire? Like in Wonderbolts Spitfire?” Vinyl squealed. “Octavia knows Spitfire? That’s so awesome!” After a couple of seconds she managed to calm down. “You failed to mention that in your story. How did you two meet?”

It was late morning, the sun was shining bright and ponies roamed the streets. Some were busy others just enjoying a nice day. The victory screams of hoofball playing colts could be heard in the distance, while the fillies played in a more silent way. Many would consider this a perfect summer day.

Well, there was always an exception. This time it was in the form of a cellist playing earthpony. Everything had gone wrong for her today. First she’d had problems sleeping in her new apartment. This lead to her waking up way later than usually, but of course that was not the end of her problems. Her fridge was completely empty, coffee reserves was empty and the market usually closed up early on Sundays.

After about ten attempts she could finally find an open stand. Octavia bought all the groceries she needed and started walking back home. Only one problem, she had no idea where she was. During her hunt for a stand Octavia managed to get lost. In the middle of a new city. Which happened to be the capitol of Equestria. It did not help that her saddlebags was filled to the brink, she even had a couple of bags in her mouth.

Octavia suppressed the urge to growl. Happy thoughts Octavia. Happy thoughts. It can’t possibly become any worse right? As on cue she could feel something hit her side and she tumbled over. Of course it could be worse. Well she did kind of walk into that one. Right?

Beside Octavia did whatever hit her seem to shoot back up. She decided to get a better look at it and turned over. In front of her now stood a hooded pony. A rather intimidating yellow pony hidden behind a black hood. Orange eyes staring back at her. Octavia was sure this was it. Today she was going to die.

The mysterious ponies hoof raised in front of her. No way, there was no way she was going to survive this. Before Octavia could start listing the things she should had done different something grabbed her hoof and raised her to her hooves.

“Sorry about that. I should had watched where I went. Are you okay?” A mare? Maybe this was not the end after all. “Let me help you with those,” she said and started picking up Octavias groceries.

“I-It’s okay. I can handle it.” Octavia had still not snapped out of the shock. Believing you were gonna die does that to you.

“No, I insist. After all I ran you down and scattered them all over the place.” There was something about that voice that Octavia recognised. She decided to let it go.

“If you insist.” The mare did not seem entirely stable minded so Octavia decided not to argue with her. “You would not be able to point me towards Lunar Street 204? I think I lost track of direction.”

“Ah, so you’re new to Canterlot then? Well today is your lucky day!” The earthpony mare rolled her eyes at that. “ I just happen to be heading the same way. Might as well join you.” The hooded mare said with a creepy smile. Octavia was already starting to dislike this place.

Despite Octavias worries her apartment was just a ten minutes walk down the street. When the mare followed her inside the block house Octavia could feel fear building in her. Maybe she could knock the mare out with her cello and call the guards? Yeah, that sounds like a plan.

When finally inside the apartment she instantly started trotting towards her cello. Good thing it stood by the doorway to the kitchen. That way it did not look suspicious. Right? Just as she was about to grab her instrument the crazy mare spoke up.

“Thank Celestia I can finally take this hood of. Do you have any idea how warm it is in this weather?”

“I can only imagine.” Octavia turned to see who this mare really was. Her jaw went slack. In the living room of her apartment stood none but the famous Wonderbolts Captain Spitfire. “You’re Spitfire?”

“The one and only.” She said with a smirk. “Not used to having famous ponies in your house?”

“Not exactly. Want some tea?”

“Sure!”

“Next thing I knew we started visting eachother regularly. We’ve been good friends ever since. How about you Vinyl. How’s life been over here?”

“Pretty much the same as when you left. Only difference is that I started working in a nightclub down street. Oh my god. Tavi! I have work later today, you should totally come!” Vinyls energy started bubbling up.

“I’ll have to check my appointments,” Octavia said in a joking manner. Vinyl pouted at her before breaking into a grin.

“It’s good to have you back Tavi.”

“It’s good to be back. Oh and before I forget, may Spitfire join? She absolutely loves nightclubs.”

“Are you kidding with me? That would be so cool! I’ll make sure to have a VIP ready for you guys. I’m pretty sure the boss is gonna love the news. Talking about boss, he wanted me to come by early today to set some new speakers up. See you later then?”

“Sure thing Vinyl,” Octavia said and gave her friend a hug. The white mare turned to walk out the door. “Bye!” Octavia called out with a smile. A long lost friend had finally been returned to her, and today had been just perfect!

The world was lost to Octavia as she trotted down the streets of Manehattan. It was not that she did not want the world there, she simply just did not care about it at the moment. Right now all she cared about was the happy nostalgic memories she had of her friend. But there was something else among them. Something she had done her best to forget.

It was stupid really. She had no idea when or why she had started harboring the little feeling. Eventually it had bloomed into something beyond her control. The best she could do was suppress it in public. It was not a feat she was proud of, but it was necessary to keep a stable friendship with Vinyl.

Octavia knew this was not healthy. And with all that time she had been without Vinyl she was not sure she would be able to keep up the facade anymore. Even though they had only talked for a couple of hours she knew the feelings were back. They probably never left her in the first place.

Before she could make up her mind about what to do she was standing in front of Spitfire’s apartment. Once again she put the train of thoughts to the side and knocked on the door. It did not take long before the wonderbolt opened the door. She looked Octavia up and down before breaking into a grin.

“Well you’re just screaming happiness. I take it went well?”

“Better than I ever could ever have imagined. We would probably still had been talking if Vinyl did not have to get work ready for her.”

“Is it not usually the other way around?”

“It sounded better in my head. She had to prepare the set she’s playing at a nightclub, and she invited us to her show!” Octavia now wore a grin that even a school filly with a crush would be ashamed to see.

“Whoa filly, calm down! You look like the time you got that invitation to play at the gala. Smile any wider and you might have to take over as the element of laughter,” Spitfire joked. Octavia let out a little giggle. “Is it Vinyl?”

Octavia was caught off guard by that question. What was Spitfire even asking about? “What? Of course it’s Vinyl I talked with today.”

“No, no I meant you obviously have a crush on somepony” Before she could keep going with her explanation Octavia interrupted her

“What? N-no! I don’t have a crush on anypony!”

“Yeah, because those burning red chins of you don’t give you away at all,” Spitfire said apparently amused by Octavias reaction.

“It’s true!” Octavia cried in a desperate attempt, she then tried changing tactic. “You never did reply though. Will you be joining the nightclub?”

“Of course! I would never miss out on a night out. This is also a special occasion,” Spitfire said with a sly grin.

“A special occasion?” Octavia was afraid she had not managed to distract Spitfire from their earlier conversation topic.

“Yeah. You, are going to a nightclub. This must be a once in a lifetime experience!” She said with a laugh. Octavia gave an unamused chuckle at that.

“Haha, very funny. So we’ve got a couple of hours before the club opens. Got anything planned?”

“TV and pizza sound good to you?”

“For being a wonderbolt you’re really lazy, you know that?”

“That’s unfair! We only get a couple of breaks during flying season, of course I’m going to chill out when I get one. Do you have any idea how lucky I was to be able to come down here? The only reason I was able to get here is because Fleetfoot is retiring in a month and we need a new member. Luckily that speedster Rainbow Dash was able to come into audition this weekend while so I could take a break. Also, you really never have been to a nightclub before have you? When we come home tonight I can promise you that you will slump right down at the floor refusing to ever get back up.” There was no doubt. Octavia had managed to distract Spitfire enough to lay down the topic of her feelings.

Maybe she should admit her feelings for Vinyl to Spitfire? Talking with someone about it sure would be nice. On the other hand, Spitfire did tend to do crazy stuff. Definitely a bad idea. And how could she talk about her feelings with someone when she by herself was not even sure what her feelings were.

Well that was just denial. Octavia knew that, but still could not help it. Obviously it could never work out. Was Vinyl even into mares? Octavia had never seen any sign of it when they used to hang out. Maybe she’d just never looked close enough. Nah, she was pretty sure she would notice if Vinyl was seeing someone considering they hung out all the time. That would be the first step for Octavia to figure out her own feelings. Seeing if the mare she -thought- she’d fallen for.

Then what? She could not risk ruining the friendship she had just gotten back, but she could not just let the feelings bottle up. Maybe they would disappear if she waited for long enough? Maybe she would find someone else? Yeah that had to be the best answer. She did not need love. She had good friends and she had her music. What more would she need?

That was a lie she should stop telling herself. Back in Canterlot she had her music, she had friends and even fame. But one thing was missing from her life. That’s why she moved back. As much as she had tried telling herself otherwise it was true. She could no longer deny it. In the end she had returned because she loved Vinyl, and nopony was going to deny her that! Okay, there was one pony who would stop her from it and she knew it. But honestly, how could she fight herself?

It was finally time to leave for tonight's show. Even though Octavia would never admit it, she was really hyped about it. Vinyl had only managed to convince her to join a nightclub once before. That was over six years ago, and Octavia could not a remember a thing. When she woke up with a huge urge to puke and the worst hangover of her life she took the hint of what had happened the day before.

Octavia would never let that happen again. She still could not grasp why ponies would drink that much. By herself she was not too picky on what she drank as long as it tasted good, but scotch was definitely her preferred drink.

When they finally arrived at the club Vinyl worked in they were surprised by the long line. It was at least twenty ponies waiting to come in. It was gonna take an eternity to get inside.

“Aw, we’re never gonna get inside at this point!” Octavia let out an undignified cry. That was very unlike her. Vinyl already started having an effect on her personality.

“We would be stuck here for a long time indeed, but I’m famous remember?” Spitfire said with a grin as she trotted towards the front of the line. Octavia caught up quickly not wanting to be left behind.

“I do tend to forget that.”

“And that’s why we’re such good friends!” They both gave a hearty chuckle at that. Spitfire, as many other celebrities, got sick of the constant fanmares, and colts who wanted nothing but autographs. Octavia herself did luckily not experience that due to the nature of the high class ponies. She did envy Spitfire a little though. It was nice having a genuine fan of her music every now and then instead of ponies liking it because of status.

As they walked past the line they could hear fans screaming out Spitfire’s name, trying to get her attention. There were also a couple of ponies who were angry about them not having to wait, but that did not really matter to Spitfire and Octavia.

“Heya guys!” Spitfire shouted, receiving a loud section of cheering in return. “I’m sorry but I don’t have time to sign autographs today, I’m meeting up with someone in the club. Though I will sign autographs after the next wonderbolts show next week, be sure to join us then!”

Octavia was amazed about how easily Spitfire handled the situation. Suddenly there was a roar of applauding hooves and cheers. Spitfire gave a short bow before she and Octavia entered the nightclub. Once inside, Spitfire’s celebrity status was forgotten completely. Everybody was to busy banging their heads and moving their flanks to the loud music playing.

The place was huge and filled with flashing lights, dancing ponies and speakers. Even though Octavia hated to admit it, she regretted not going out more often. Classical music was her call and she loved it, but sometimes it was nice to let loose with some of the crazy fast-paced music she had no idea what to call.

On the stage was Vinyl, operating the mixing tables like a god. Even though Octavia had no idea what she did, it looked damn impressive. Vinyl spotted them and flashed a huge grin before looking over at the bartender and waving at him. She then proceeded to point at Octavia and Spitfire and the bartender nodded. The bartender signaled for them to come over to the bar.

“So you’re Vinyl’s friends ey? Nice to meet ya, I’m Jayce. All your drinks are on the house tonight, though try not getting way too drunk before Vinyl is able to accompany you,” Jayce said with a smirk. “Also, the VIP lounge is reserved for you. Someone there wants to meet you.”

“Thanks a lot. I will have to say no thanks to the drinks for now, but I assure you I will come back later,” Octavia said with a genuine smile.

“Yeah, I’ll do the same,” Spitfire replied.

They proceeded to the stairs marked VIP with a bouncer in front. Upon spotting the mares he gave them a smile and stood aside.They proceeded up the stairs into a huge room with windows allowing them to look down at the dance-floor.

Octavia could not help but stare at the DJ working her way trough the current song. Octavia did not recognise it, but she sure did not complain. She found herself unable to tear her eyes from the white unicorn. Soon the world was lost to her, only the music and Vinyl was there. A new song started and Octavia found herself bobbing her head slightly.

Never coming down, ever since the day she left the crown. She ain’t never coming down, ever since the day she left the crown.

The words repeated a while before the song changed slightly.

She’s gonna be my ecstasy, a source upon my misery. She’s be the one that holds me down. She’s gonna be the one who holds me down.

Though the lyrics repeated trough the whole song, Octavia found herself more drawn by them each time. They did pretty much to describe how she felt about Vinyl. Usually Octavia only felt the sound of the music, but this song. She felt like every part of it was a part of herself. There was no doubt she had to ask Vinyl what song this was.

“I knew it!” Spitfire suddenly exclaimed.

“Huh?” Octavia was snapped out of her trance.

“You have a thing for that filly don’t you?”

“Is it really that obvious?” Octavia asked a little flushed.

“Definitely. The way you look at her kinda tells you away. Also, the way you blushed both times I mentioned her gave me a clue,” Spitfire said with a huge grin. “You have to tell me all about it!”

Before Octavia could reply, the sound of hoofsteps could be heard in the room. A stallion’s voice spoke up. “Spitfire. Octavia. Nice to finally meet you.”

Risking

Octavia and Spitfire turned around to the source of the voice. In front of them stood a turquoise unicorn about their age. A black spiky mane covered his head and a similar tail his rear. He was wearing a black shirt with a white tie and huge dark blue sunglasses. His cutiemark was tree white stars. What special talent could that be?

“Mind introducing me Spitfire?” He said with a smirk.

“You two know each other?” Octavia’s face showed clear confusion.

“You haven’t even bothered mentioning me?” The stallion said with fake hurt. “And here I thought you were not embarrassed about me,” he finished with a pout.

“Aw, you know that’s not true.” Spitfire said, walked over to him and gave him a peck on the mouth. Neon however was not satisfied by this and puller her in for a powerful kiss. The kiss lasted for way longer than Octavia was comfortable with before they pulled apart revealing a stunned white DJ standing behind them.

“W-Wait, boss and Spitfire? What?” Vinyl looked like she’d just seen a ghost. Octavia could guess she looked about the same. “Why did you not tell me Tavi?”

“I had no idea myself! What’s even happening? Why did you not tell me this earlier?”

“I guess I do owe an explanation don’t I?” Spitfire started. When she reachieved a nod from both Vinyl and Octavia she continued. “ It actually goes a couple of months back. Neon here was looking to expand his business to Canterlot since it’s not really a lot of nightclubs there. So of course he went to the number one nightclub goer in Canterlot. Me!” Spitfire puffed her chest out a little faking pride in that statement.

“You have no idea how much trouble I had to go trough just to get a hold of her. Totally worth it!” Neon chuckled.

“Betcha it was. So anyways, after his crazy attempts -which I will not speak of in public- of trying to get a hold of me I just had to give him a chance. Next thing I knew we woke up in my bed not having visited a single nightclub. None the less it was the best night ever.”

“Can’t argue with that. So anyways, when you talked about going back to Manehattan a golden opportunity struck. I’m moving in with Spitfire and opening up a nightclub in Canterlot, and I need someone to keep this one nice and steady. Someone I can trust, and now that Octavia is back here the pony I trust the most have no reason to move from this city. So I ask you Vinyl Scratch, will you accept my job promotion to co owner of “Raving Hearts Club”?” Neon was grinning at Vinyl who was shocked beyond belief.
“Y-You w-want me to take over the business here?”

“Sometimes you’re just so slow Vinyl,” He said in a joking matter. “Yes I wand you to run my business in Manehattan.”

“I-I Don’t even know what to say.”

“She accepts,” Octavia suddenly spoke up. Vinyl was snapped out of her surprise from this.

“Thanks Tavi, you still remember that ey?” She said finally wearing her trademark grin again. “Yes I do accept. You have no idea how much this means to me Neon!” There was not much left to say at this moment. Of course Vinyl would need instructions on how to run the place, but that would have to be taken another day. There was a silence before Spitfire decided to speak up.

“Oh, I almost forgot. We have to get home, we have some late night bed work to do .” She gave them a wink. Neon grinned, Vinyl laughed and Octavia blushed. Spitfire sure knew the element of subtleness.

“Would you mind closing up the club for me Vinyl?”

“Sure. Two A.M. right?” Vinyl was visibly hyped about this. Neon nodded and threw her the keys.

Spitfire and Neon started heading for the door, just before they reached it Spitfire turned. “You guys should just kiss already.” Before anyone could reply the Wonderbolt and club owner was gone.

“Huh, what was that about?” Vinyl asked with clear confusion. Octavia quickly turned to the window to try and hide her blush. “Is there something you ain’t telling me Tavi?”

Oh Celestia. What was she going to say? Damn Spitfire, there was no way to get out of this situation. Her life was just about to become a living hell.

“Just never mind, this ain’t the time to put Spitfire’s logic to question. Right now it’s time to celebrate, Scratch style!” Vinyl said and picked up the announcement mic. “I’m Vinyl Scratch aka DJ-Pon3 and I have an announcement to make! Our beloved owner Neon Lights is moving to Canterlot and opening up a new club there. But fret not, from now on I am co owner of the club. And you know what that means. It’s party time! DJ, play my song! Also one free round of alcohol to everypony!” Vinyl screamed into the mic. The whole crowd cheered and within moments the song playing was switched and the white unicorn was charging down the stairs towards the dance floor.
Octavia had no idea what had just happened, but she liked it. Not only would her feelings stay hidden, but Vinyl’s dream had just come true and she had a feeling this night was going to be perfect. She spotted Vinyl waving her over before loosing herself to the music and started dancing like a god. Octavia could not help but stare for a moment longer. The first thought entering her mind was. That mare is amazing.

Usually she would never attend the dancefloor, but today was special. She could not deny Vinyl’s request so she started walking down the stairs. The closer she got the quicker her confidence disappeared. She had no idea how to dance like that, and she definitely had no idea how to dance with Vinyl Okay, maybe she should just take a scotch or two before heading out there. Yeah, that sounded like a good idea.

Worst idea ever! Not only did she wake up with a headache and the urge to vomit. No, she also woke up with no memory of what happened after she had had that drink-those drinks- with something warm pressing against her back. Wait, something warm pressing against her back?

Octavia shot out of the bed with a horrifying scream. She panicked. She’d woken up in a stranger’s bed with no memory of the last night. This had to be the worst possible thing that has ever happened to her. She decided to look around the room, not quite able to look down at the pony she had slept with quite yet. The more she took in the more familiar it seemed. Wait, could it be?

“Ugh, Taaavi! I’m trying to sleep!” Vinyl said, turning her back towards Octavia and pulling the pillow over her head.

“V-Vinyl? Oh thank Celestia. What happened last night?” Octavia let out a relieved sigh. Once the initial shock was over the urge to vomit was back. Octavia charged into the hallway before remembering she had no idea where the bathroom was. “Vinyl! Where’s the bathroom?”

“Second door to the left!” Vinyl grumbled. Octavia shot like an arrow to the bathroom. The scene, however, cannot be described due to the PG rating on this fanfiction. I can, however, go as far as telling that it was horrible.

When she finally got out of the bathroom, she felt like the world had given her lemons. Of course that would not be enough to make her back down. After all, Daring Do would never back down. Yes, she read Daring Do. No, not the ones with tentacles and chocolate pudding. Okay, maybe one or two copies of them but that was completely off the topic!

Where did Vinyl keep the painkillers anyways? Octavia certainly hoped it did not turn out they were in the bathroom, she would never want to go in there again. Maybe she kept them in the living room. After searching for a couple of minutes Octavia decided to check the bedroom.

Not very unexpectedly the pills laid on the night table next to Vinyl. With all the loud music she played every night it was understandable that she kept the painkillers close. She opened the box and chugged a pill. She then proceeded to the kitchen to get some water. With the headache finally calmed down to a dull throb, Octavia could focus her attention. What would be the next thing on her to do -list for this morning? An idea struck her mind.

Breakfast, that’s what she needed. First, however, she needed some relaxing music. Maybe she’d still kept the vinyl Octavia had bought for her a while back. Surprisingly enough, it laid on top of Vinyl’s collection. Did she actually listen to the vinyl? Octavia was surprised at this, none the less she put it on the recorder and started the song

With the serene notes of the song filling the room she could finally relax a little. Well at least there was a couple of seconds of serenity before the -as Vinyl would so delicately had put it- bass dropped. Suddenly the floor shook and the slowly disappearing headache reached its top again.

Of course Vinyl had remixed it, why would she not? Octavia should’ve guessed this. She was certainly too naive to live with Vinyl yet. She let out a sigh at that. Of course she would never live with Vinyl, after all why would Vinyl live with her?

As if Vinyl could read Octavia’s mind she popped into the room filled with energy. “So what’cha think? Awesome mix right?” She gave Octavia her best puppy look. Octavia was pretty sure her heart would melt if she stayed like that for just a second longer.

“It was good, maybe not exactly my type of wake up music, though.”

“Aww, you don’t like my music?” Vinyl pouted. “Well you seemed to like it yesterday. Damn filly, I haven’t seen someone dance like that in years.”

“I d-danced? What kind of dancing?”

“The dirty kind,” Vinyl said with a suggestive look. Octavia blushed harder than ever before. “I’m pretty sure you turned at least eighty percent of the fillies there gay yesterday.”

That was it; Octavia was going to explode from embarrassment. There was no way she could survive this. Or could she? Maybe it was finally time? Fold and lose it all, or go full in? Vinyl had certainly affected her a lot, because she went with the leap of faith. She steeled her nerves the best she could and put on a sly grin.

“So how about you Vinyl, feeling gay?” On the outside Octavia looked calm, but on the inside her heart was going to blow any minute now.

“Depends, do you want me to be gay?”

Dammit, of course Vinyl had to make it harder for Octavia. She should have known so by now. Octavia was running low on willpower. One more shot and she would be completely drained. Well, as she said earlier. All in. This was it. It would be her biggest mistake or the best thing she’d ever done. None the less she would never regret it.

“I would love to,” Octavia finally got the words out and moved closed the distance between them. She grabbed the white unicorn’s head and closed the final distance in her marathon. It was time to claim the award or cry trying.

Their muscles finally pressed together in what felt like fate colliding with a bigger impact than any of them could ever imagine. Time was not present, nobody else existed, only a white unicorn, a gray earth pony and the most glorious kiss in the history of ponies.

When they finally pulled apart, they panted hard. They had both been so lost in the kiss they had forgotten to breathe. They both looked at each other for several seconds, lost in bliss. Finally Vinyl decided to speak up.

“For you Octavia, I can be anything.”

Octavia had no idea how long she and Vinyl had been lying on the sofa. Maybe an hour, maybe days? Okay, days might be a little too exaggerated, but it had been a while. The cellist had no intentions of moving, though. Why would she? She had Vinyl’s chest warming her back and her breath tickling her ear. If perfection had a definition, this was it.

Of course fate would not want someone to enjoy a perfect moment forever, so her stomach growled. Damn traitor.

“Some food would be nice, don’t you think?” Another growl confirmed Vinyl’s question. “I don’t think we’ve got any food in the fridge though. Wanna go to Joe’s?”

“Can’t we just stay here? I don’t wanna move,” Octavia whined.

“I always go to Joe’s on Sundays for breakfast, it’s a tradition. Anyways, I don’t think I have any eatable food,” Vinyl said with a yawn. “Oh and that reminds me, he mentioned earlier having to shut down the bar.” A frown came onto Vinyl’s face.

“What?” Octavia screeched. “Why?”

“Too low income.”

“Is there anything we can do?”

“Unless we can increase his income by thirty percent, not really no.”

“I think I might know someone who does. You just go ahead to Joe’s and I will meet up with you there in an hour, okay?” Octavia said with a sly smile.

“Aw, but I thought we were gonna hang out!” Vinyl said with a fake hurt expression. In reality this was just the opportunity she needed.

“I just have to do this one thing and we can hang out for the rest of the day okay?”

“Only for you,” Vinyl said with a smirk. They both walked outside. When they were about to part Vinyl gave Octavia a peck on the mouth. She had to credit Octavia for keeping the blush down to a minimum. She, by herself, did not blush at all. Vinyl would never blush.

That was until Octavia pulled her in for a full make out session with more tongue than what was considered publicly decent. This caused Vinyl to blush furiously.

“Tavi, public decency?” Vinyl whispered. “Oh, eh. Sorry?” Octavia blushed as well. After a couple of moments of awkwardness they parted ways, both taking opposite directions.

Despite the calm blissful hour and fourteen minutes earlier Vinyl had not been lost like Octavia. No, her senses had been on their sharpest. Every minute counted, every detail absorbed and most of all her brain had worked full time.

First she had thought about her and Octavia. Let’s just say she was mildly surprised when Octavia kissed her. She was even more surprised when she found herself pressing into it with equal passion. She had always liked Octavia as a friend, but she had never really thought about her that way.

That’s what she thought. After a while of contemplating she realized that all along she had liked Octavia. A lot. She just had not realized it before Octavia had made her move. The fact that she had not dated since she’d met Octavia should have given a little hint. Or the fact that she drank until she fainted at the end of every month because it reminded her how much she missed the mare.

She did not blame Octavia, neither did she blame herself. But she did want to make it right again, so she had planned. After one hour and five minutes of intense concentration she had formed a plan and was refining it. After nine minutes of refining her plan, Octavia’s stomach had grumbled. She’d have to pay Octavia’s stomach back later for the perfect timing.

Octavia found herself walking down the street towards Joe’s with two exhausted ponies. When Octavia came rushing in the door the scene inside was one she wished she’d never seen. She mentally cursed herself for not knocking on the door. Let us say it like this. Spitfire and Neon had not slept a whole lot that night due to some unspoken activities, and they had not quit before Octavia had rushed in. No, no you’ve pretty much got the right idea about what kind of activities she was talking about.

Eventually the awkwardness had evaded and Octavia had explained why she had rushed inside. She had told Spitfire about Joe’s problem and the wonderbolt had instantly agreed to help out. If the place meant half as much as Octavia claimed it did to her Spitfire would not hesitate for a moment to help.

“It probably would have been, if I remembered anything that is.” “What happened?”

“Vinyl wanted me to dance so I decided to take a couple of glasses of whiskey to steel my nerves. That’s the last thing I remember before waking up in her bed.”

“Then what happened?” Neon was slightly interested. Octavia cringed as she remembered the bathroom. She was going to have nightmares about that for years. Before she could reply, however, they reached their destination.

Once inside they saw Vinyl sitting in their usual booth looking bored. Her mood instantly brightened when she saw the others approaching. A smirk made its way onto her face.

“Hey Spitfire and Neon!” Vinyl grinned at them.

“Heya” They said in unison. They all sat down and got comfortable when Joe came over to take their orders. There was a moment of silence before Spitfire spoke up.

“So Vinyl, Octavia told me she can’t remember what happened last night. Would you mind filling us in?”

“Oh, you should had seen the filly. It was priceless. The way she moved her flank most likely turned eighty percent of your customers into fillyfoolers, Neon,” Vinyl exclaimed and a laugh rose from everypony but Octavia who was blushing madly.

“And how about you Vinyl, where does your barn door swing as they call it?” Spitfire looked at Octavia and expected a wince. Though instead Octavia was smiling.

“Did you not hear? My barn door stays open for one mare, and one mare only. And that’s Tavi.”

“That would be twenty bits,” Spitfire said to Neon with a smirk.

“How’d you do that?” Neon looked at Spitfire with disbelief.

“That’s so cheap!” Octavia scowled at Spitfire. “Using my trust to win bets, and you don’t even give me any of the profit?!”

“That’s how I roll,” Spitfire grinned at Octavia.

“But I thought we were friends,” The earth pony cried with a pout on her mouth. She knew that Spitfire hated feeling she’d let someone down. It was very unlike Octavia to do things like this, but she and Spitfire understood each other beyond most ponies. Therefore they knew each other’s limits, and Octavia was far from poking them.

“Aw, what do you want this time?” Damn, Spitfire saw past her little scheme. Okay, that was so unlike Octavia. Maybe Vinyl had influenced her a little more than she thought. Wait, if she had been this influenced in one day. She shuddered at the thought of how she would be within the New Year’s Eve.

“Oh, ehm. You see this bar means a lot to me, and Joe might have to close it up if he can’t increase the income by about thirty percent. I’m pretty sure a couple of mentions of it in an interview or two should do the trick,” Octavia said with a cheap smile.

Spitfire gave her a sly smile. “Sure, but I need you to promise me something.” Something about that smirk put Octavia at a little unease.

“Promise what exactly?”

“I can’t talk about it right now, I’ll explain later okay?” She gave Octavia a little more of a pleading expression this time.

“Okay, I promise.”

The rest of the lunch was pretty much eventless. They paid their bill and prepared to leave. Neon had some paperwork to do and Spitfire had an interview to set up. As soon as Neon had left, however, Spitfire turned to Octavia.

“Sorry about that earlier. I just don’t want Neon to know quite yet. I want you to play at our wedding, Octavia.”

The gray mare’s jaw dropped. “Y-You’re getting married?” “Well. No. Kind of? It’s complicated. We’ve talked about it, and we both want to do it. We simply just ain’t sure where to start. Though I think he’s going to propose to me soon, so I kinda started planning the wedding a little early,” The pegasus said with a sheepish smile.

“I would absolutely love to play at your wedding,” Octavia grinned at Spitfire

Octavia noticed Vinyl had been uncharacteristically silent for the last ten minutes. That’s weird; the mare usually talked twice as much as Octavia. Had she done something? Maybe Vinyl was having afterthoughts? Oh no, this could not be good. The cellist felt a tingle of panic build up in her mind.

Her thoughts were interrupted for a second as Spitfire shouted them a goodbye. Octavia mindlessly waved back at her while Vinyl did not even notice. Okay, something was definitely wrong with Vinyl and Octavia was about to freak out.

Before she could go into full panic the rational part of her brain spoke up again and told her to ask Vinyl what was on her mind. “Hey Vinyl.”

“Huh, oh sorry. I zoned out. What’s up?”

“You’ve been so quiet lately, is something bothering you?” Octavia looked at her with concern.

“Actually, I have a surprise for you. I’m just really nervous you might not like it,” Vinyl admitted.

“Aw, that’s so adorable!” Octavia squealed and gave Vinyl a nuzzle. Vinyl blushed and muttered something that Octavia could not understand.

“Well the surprise ain’t before later tonight. Anything you wanna do while waiting?”

“We could take a walk in the park,” Octavia grinned. She’d been doing that a lot lately; no one could blame her though. It was all Vinyl’s fault.

“Sure.” With that the two mares trotted off towards the general direction of Manehattan gardens.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was finally time for the big surprise. Vinyl had been spending the whole day telling herself that Octavia would enjoy this as much as herself. Despite all her convincing she did not believe herself for a second. There was nothing she could do now though. “Tavi, we got to leave now for the surprise,” Vinyl said with nervousness in her voice.
“I can’t wait,” Octavia grinned at Vinyl and gave her a peck on the cheek. This calmed the DJ more than she could ever had guessed.
The two ponies walked down the dimly lit streets. The sun was starting to descend, but the streetlights had not woken quite yet. There were a few ponies bustling around, some enjoying the evening while others were closing up their stores.
After fifteen minutes of walking Vinyl stopped in front of a decent looking building. The outside was decorated with two huge windows allowing and a wooden door. Above the windows was a neon light with the text “The Musician’s Slice“ written on it.
They entered the restaurant where music could be heard from inside. Vinyl walked up to a gray stallion standing behind something that looked like a podium. “Reservations for Vinyl Scratch,” She said with a small nervous smile.
“Ah, yes. A table for two?”
“Yeah.”
“Come with me,” the stallion said and started walking into the restaurant. He led them to a table near one of the windows. “Have a nice meal,” he said with a genuine smile.
Octavia and Vinyl sat down at the table. “This looks so amazing. How did you find it?”
“It opened up a few days ago, even though it’s not as fancy as Canterlot restaurants it’s quite the place.” Before they could continue their conversation a waiter came over with a couple of menus.
Vinyl and Octavia started browsing through them and after a while they both seemed to have settled on their orders. It only took a few seconds before the waiter came back and took their orders. While Octavia ordered a Delphinium salad with white Stephanotis, Vinyl ordered an Aquialgea Magpie salad. Before the waiter left, however, Vinyl whispered something to her. She gave her a nod and a smile before trotting off.
About a minute later the song switched to something a little different. After a few seconds Octavia started recognizing the tune. Her jaw dropped. “I-Is that? I had completely forgotten about that song.” Octavia’s mind went into a complete shutdown. The only thing her mind could comprehend was the fact that she loved Vinyl more than anything else in this entire world.
Vinyl was casually trotting down the halls of her dormitory towards her room. After three exhausting classes it was going to be nice getting some sleep. She usually did not nap during the day, but Mondays were exceptions. Mondays were never good days. How could they be? The weekend ended, she had mathematics, history and Equestrian language.
Waking up early had never been her strong side, neither had math. History bored her almost as much as class and she did not even want to get started on Equestrian language. She’d come to this place for music, but turns out you could not only have music classes. So here she was, tired and on her way to sleep mid-day like an old pony.
When she finally reached the door of her room all she could think about was the warm blankets awaiting her. However the door lock decided to be a problem, it refused to budge. Vinyl muttered a few curses under her breath. She tried again, same result. Mondays. After a couple of more attempts everything she knew within the realm of common politeness had faded. She cursed louder than socially acceptable and started bucking at the door.
After a few seconds her outburst stopped and she slumped down at the floor in front of her door. Only now did she notice the muffled sound of music coming from behind her. Her ears perked up, she recognized that song. It was one of her favorites. She’d tried remixing it a couple of times but was never happy with the result.
Since Vinyl was not one of the more reserved mares in her ways, and since the option of sleeping in her room was denied she decided to knock on the door. After a few seconds a grey earth pony with a much darker shaded mane opened. She was wearing a pink bow tie matching her eyes and color of her cutie mark. Which Vinyl would never had looked at, staring at strangers flanks was not a noble thing.
“Was there anything you wanted?” The mare said with a refined Canterlot accent. A few ponies spoke with that kind of accent down here in Manehattan, but Vinyl did not give it any further thought.
“Well, I was kind of locked out of my room when I heard music from behind this door. And the song happens to be my favorite.” Vinyl grinned.
“Well, I did turn up the volume so I would not have to listen to your so very refined vocabulary.” She gave Vinyl a flat look.
“That must mean fate wanted me to knock on this door! I have a feeling we can become great friends,” Vinyl exclaimed with some very artistic movements of her hooves. That was if you counted waving like a maniac as a form of art.
“I guess I will have to invite you in, don’t I?” Octavia sighed. “What did I do to you, fate, to deserve this?” She mumbled too low for Vinyl to hear.
“Pretty much,” Vinyl grinned even wider. Maybe Mondays weren't so bad after all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Turns out Vinyl had been right. Octavia noted that she had to thank the fate one day, after all where would she had been if Vinyl never came into her life? Most likely still playing for those stuck up snobs that called themselves the Canterlot elite. She shivered at the thought.

“So, you like it?” Vinyl asked, a grin starting to spread on her mouth.

“I absolutely love it,” Octavia smiled back at her.

That was until Octavia found her hooves itching to play her cello. Why, she had no idea. Maybe it was the fact that she had not played a note in several days. Maybe it was the mood? No matter what it was she needed something to distract her from it. Before she could travel down the road of thoughts any further about it Vinyl put an end to it.

“So now that were together, I’m guessing you’re gonna live here for a while?”

“It seems so.”

“Well then, do you want to move in with me?” This left Octavia speechless. Even though they were basically already living together, this was a huge step. Was she ready for something like this? They had only been dating for two days now. On the other hand, they had known each other most of their life.

“Hm, how about we get a new place together? It’s a little small here for two ponies.” At this Vinyl grinned so wide it would most likely end up in some kind of a record book.

“You’re a genius Octavia! With my new job and your help paying the bills we could buy a palace!”

“Calm down now filly, you’re taking it a little overboard here. And first I’ll have to get me a job,” Octavia’s face fell a little at the mention of a job. Where exactly would a cello player get a job in the town of Manehattan? The city was not exactly known for their classiness, something Octavia was happy about. After all that was one of the reasons she’d left Canterlot in the first place.

“Oh I know! You could come and work at the club while looking for another job. We’ve always had a little trouble keeping account of everything. If I remember to correctly you were pretty good with math, right?”

“I guess that could work, but I don’t have any experience working in a nightclub. How do you know Neon would even want to hire me?”

“Tavi, you’re my marefriend. Of course he would want to hire you, and I will teach you. By the end of the week you will barely even notice you’re working,” Vinyl’s energy seemed to have been filled up times three. Where would she get all that energy anyways? It would seem wiser not to ask that question, Octavia figured.

Octavia could feel something build up within her. It was not the joy she had felt earlier, rather something more desperate. She looked a Vinyl and realized what it was. It was desire. Desire for a certain white DJ with a neon blue mane.

“I guess I will have to repay you then,” Octavia said and gave her the most seductive grin she could.

“You could make those wonderful pancakes tomorrow,” Vinyl said completely oblivious of what Octavia was attempting. The grey mare suppressed the urge to facehoof and walked towards her DJ.

“I was thinking about something different.” She walked past the DJ and brushed her tail against her side in a hopefully more seductive matter than her earlier attempt.

“Oh... Oh,” Vinyl’s eyes went wide. “Maybe you should.”

Four months. Four months had it been since Octavia had made the best choice of her life. Four months since Vinyl had gotten her job as a co-owner in the nightclub. And four months since Octavia had gotten the best marefriend ever.

And now, Octavia and Vinyl was placed neatly on a couple of chairs. Flowers, gifts and decorations all around. A band playing calm music in the background. Parents lurking around in neat clothes. Even the princess was there, lurking around the snack table. Of course the princess was there. After all Spitfire was pretty close to the royals, so who else would be the priest?

No, no it was not Octavia and Vinyl getting married. But as Spitfire had predicted her now to be husband had asked for her hoof in marriage. Tears of joy had been Spitfires answer. And now here they were, sitting trough the endless speeches from family and friends of the couple.

As Octavia had promised she’d played during the ceremony and everything had gone without a hitch. That is if you don’t count the wall eyed mail mare crashing trough a window at some point, that and the fact that a scroll with the royal seal had popped into existence right in front of the princess.

It was not only Spitfire and Neon life had treated well though. Vinyl and Octavia had managed to get a much bigger apartment just ten minutes away from Joe’s, who’s business was going great. He was even thinking about expanding.

As for Octavia, she still worked in the nightclub. Though she and Vinyl had decided to try and make a song together, turned out to be a success. They’d been messaged by several record companies afterwards, but they declined it all. They did not want to give in to those greedy bastards at a promise of fortune and fame.

The song however had made their names a little known and suddenly the nightclub was filled to the brink almost every night. Neon and Vinyl had been talking about extending it to a second location in Manehattan.

For the more romantic part of their life things had not changed one bit. They almost did everything together, and you rarely saw one without the other just a tail behind. And for the more private life, that was none of your business.

Back at the wedding the speeches was finally over and the more lively part of the wedding would was about to begin. Vinyl had already sneaked out to prepare her set. After she’d played on the royal wedding Neon and Spitfire had agreed she’d get to play on theirs as well.

The ponies moved out of the wedding location and into the gardens. Where the music started instantly. It was a familiar song, yet different. Octavia recognised it as the song Vinyl had made for the royal wedding, though this time she had remixed it and added a couple of elements to it.

Ponies danced to the tune all around Octavia, after working in the nightclub for so long Octavia had gotten more and more used to dancing to this kind of music. When Vinyl said she would teach Octavia how to work in a nightclub she’d never expected half of it raving to the music.

None the less the enjoyed every second of it. Why would she not? Amazing music, the mood was perfect and she had the love of her life with her. Well the mood was pretty perfect when none of the ponies had a little too much to drink, and the music was mostly amazing. But the love of her life was never questioned.

“Hey Octavia,” Spitfire shouted to her. The cellist has lost track of time and been dancing for quite a while. “Crazy dance moves you’ve got there, but mind taking a break? I need to talk with you.”

Octavia ceased her dancing and trotted over to the wonderbolt. “Hey Spitfire, what a wonderful wedding this is.” Octavia smiled at the bride. “And might I add you look stunning in that dress, where did you get it?”

“By a fashion designer in ponyville called Rarity. You should put down an order yourself soon, I heard she’s very busy now a days,” Spitfire said with a sly smirk.

“I’m afraid I fail to understand what you mean.” Octavia looked very confused.

“Oh nothing,” Spitfire mused. “But I’d better get going, the carriage that’s supposed to pick us up should be here soon. I don’t wanna miss out on my own honeymoon after all,” Spitfire said and gave Octavia a hug. “Make sure to have a nice evening.”

“I will, and make sure you get some sleep tonight,” Octavia replied with a wink. “Goodbye Spitfire.”

“Aw, you make it sound like we’ll never meet again.” Spitfire said in a joking manner. “I guess I’ll see you later then Octavia.” She said and started walking towards her husband.

“Oh and you have to fill me in on all the details later,” Octavia shouted before giving a final wave.

On stage Vinyl had just finished the last song of the evening. Octavia looked over at her dj who in return flashed her a nervous grin. That was strange. Vinyl was never nervous when on her set, well her set was over. So what was there to be nervous about? Before she could think any further about it a voice spoke up in the microphone.

“I have an announcement to make,” It was Vinyl talking. “This night has been the most awesome celebration I’ve ever been to. So give an applause to the wedding couple!” In response the crowd stomped their hooves and cheered in approval. “However, there is one thing that could make this night even better. And that is if my one and only love would give me the pleasure of becoming the luckiest mare in all of Equestria. I guess what I’m trying to say is. Octavia, will you marry me?”

The grey mare was speechless. Did she just hear what she thought she heard? Definitely. Tears left her eyes, but she could do nothing further. She pushed the last of her willpower and finally managed to squeeze out a reply.

“Yes, yes I will.”

Vinyl charged off the set and straight into her fiance's hooves. They were both knocked over and fell to the ground. None of them cared though, right now all they wanted was to be close.

“I love you Tavi.”

“I love you too Vinyl.” With that their lips met in the most divine kiss of their entire life.
