The plan/interruption of the royal wedding

View Online

Queen Chrysalis is the queen of the changelings, the mother of every changeling. Me and my brother Pharynx are one of those children she birthed.

While we all may have been her children, we are still like strangers to one another. All of us live in the same hive, part of the same culture, birthed by Queen Chrysalis. Still, I feel like I'm just another changeling. Even Pharynx doesn't seem like family to me. He's more of a mentor than family.

This day just proves that everything that I assumed was true after all.

Queen Chrysalis sat on her throne. Her throne is not like any other thrones. Her throne is made of an ancient dark stone, what stone it really is is unknown. It's not really our business to know about it anyway. Most of us don't want knowledge, we want love...

Queen Chrysalis announced that today is the day we will have our most successful takeover ever. All of the changelings were whispering, some like me were didn't, but are also curious about this 'takeover'.

The queen commanded us to be silent, but there were still whispers in the hive. Queen Chrysalis was furious. She roared loudly, "SILENCE!" every changeling went quiet. Chrysalis looked around and continued to speak.

"What a bunch of disobedient bugs...Anyways, for this takeover, ALL of you are coming. We are going to the Canterlot." It was weird why she wanted to attack this place. Normally, we'd go to a place full of love so that we can absorb them. Canterlot sounds unlike a place like that.

"Canterlot is the capital of Equestria, ruled by the princesses of day and night- but that's not important...There is a wedding in preparation now. Now, we all know what weddings mean..." She grinned evilly.

The crowd of changelings, including my brother chanted "MORE LOVE! MORE LOVE! MORE LOVE!", I find it pretty awkward saying that so I just mouthed the words instead, while maintaining an evil look.

Queen Chrysalis seemed impressed. She nodded and said "Since this is a ROYAL wedding, it's double the love power!" The crowd cheered in unison.

"Well, you know the drill. I will replace the bride and drain the groom's love while you do the same to all the other ponies. Now go! Go! Go!" And every changeling took off.

When we reached Canterlot, we noticed there was a barrier around the entire city, perhaps, to protect it. Queen Chrysalis had a change of plans, she told us to work together and break the barrier. She then shapeshifted into a beautiful pony with curly hair, maybe that was the bride. She went in and vanished from our sight while we started to break the border.

The barrier was powerful, it took a while to break the barrier, but we managed to nail it. Queen Chrysalis might have already drained the groom's love that the magic of the barrier grew weak. We made our way into the castle and attacked the ponies. Every changeling were flying at every direction, I felt a shiver take over me. The ponies seemed really innocent, I didn't want to attack them...

I felt something hit my back, I turned to look. It was Pharynx. His expression was readable. He was clearly disappointed and confused that I was just standing there like a lost dog. "Well?" He said "Have you drained anypony yet?" I slowly nodded, I was afraid to disappoint him. "Good" he said, and he flew away to drain another pony.

When we were just about done draining the entire city. We were ambushed by a strong force of magic.

We were deafeated. I failed my own kind.

The magic was powerful enough to send us back to where we came from, the hive.

The realization

"I'M DISAPPOINTED IN YOU CHANGELINGS! NOW, YOU HAVE ONLY EMBARRASSED YOURSELF IN FRONT OF WEAK PONIES!" Chrysalis was really enraged.

I looked down because I nearly felt myself tearing up inside. Chrysalis saw me and shouted "Hey you! Toughen up! We changelings do not show signs of weakness. We STEAL love, we don't SHARE love! Ugh, I can't even look at you..." She turned at walked away gracefully.

I sighed and flew away. I heard a changeling's footsteps behind me. I fixed my look and turned to look down at Pharynx. "What do you want, Pharynx..." I asked. Pharynx remained silent. He came up to me and hitted me softly, but before I could hit him back, I hitted myself. It was a silly prank Pharynx used to play on me when I was feeling weak, saying that I needed to toughen up. He smiled, still keeping a straight face and flew away.

I still felt weak. I decided to just fly around to get things out of my mind for a bit. I knew where I was going, I just didn't know why I went to wherever I was going. I ended up in the middle of nowhere.

I couldn't see any changelings, it was just walls with holes that keep changing shapes and sizes. I wasn't familiar with this part of the hive. I wanted to get back to where every changeling was. Before I could even get to the hole, a big black figure stood between me and the hole. I looked up, and I knew I was not gonna Ike this.

Queen Chrysalis was still full of rage. She walked towards me slowly and smiled swiftly. "Not many changelings manage to get this far in the hive, unless they're patrollers, but you aren't a patroller, are you? She asked.

I stammered and said "N-no, but my brother Pharynx is.", Pharynx was worthy of becoming a patroller, you had to be brave and fierce. Something I was unable of doing.

Queen Chrysalis started walking while talking, I wanted to get back but the hole had already vanished. "Ahhhh, yes. Pharynx, he was such a loyal one. Fair at judgement. While all of you were still young and fragile, I silently saw how you bugs acted alone and with others. Among all of you, Pharynx was the strongest. I saw how he protected you, one of the weakest changelings in the hive." I actually agreed on one thing, I was the weakest changeling there.

"When you were playing with your useless dollies, I knew you were gonna get bullied, and you did. I didn't stop the bullies from bullying since I thought you could toughen up a bit, but you didn't... Instead, it was your brother who toughened up a LOT. When you two grew older, old enough to attack outside of the hive. I picked Pharynx for the job as leader of the changeling patrols. I didn't regret the decision. He was perfect. I didn't know what to do with you, so I just let you off. You didn't cause trouble, so that's one, unlike the others, so I guess letting you off was the only thing I could do." She finished.

"Oh. I didn't know that you thought of us like that." I said in a rather sarcastic tone.

"Huh. You ought to know that years ago." I did, and I found it quite offensive. I didn't say that to Queen Chrysalis, since it would show I'm even weaker than she expected.

The hole appeared again behind us. "The hole. It's open, you should get back to your brother, especially if you're planning to come here again." That was probably the nicest thing I've heard from Queen Chrysalis mouth. We went in the hole one by one, I went to where everyone else is while Queen Chrysalis went into a darker hole in an opposite direction.

The fight

I wanted to know where Queen Chrysalis was heading to, but I know I should get directions from my brother first, or just ask him to come with me. As much as I know the consequences of disturbing the queen without her permission, I'm sure that she wouldn't mind me going. She doesn't care about me. Pharynx, on the other hand, needs to be extra careful, one wrong move could get him removed from his lead position. I didn't want to risk my brother's safety so I chose to go alone instead.

I still needed directions, so I asked my brother for a map guide. I just had to find him.

After a few turns, I saw him and two other changelings. I recognized them as Pharynx second and third-in command. They were probably talking about more effective ways to defeat the ponies in Equestria. I decided to wait until until their conversation is over.

"Long time no see, idiot."

Huh? Who was that? I turned and saw a three familiar faces. I couldn't remember who he was so I asked him. "Uh...Do I know you?".

Three of them were shocked. They whispered to each other for a bit. Then the first one said again.

"Well, I'm quite surprised. I was hoping you'd remembered us...but since you didn't, let us reintroduce ourselves, this should trigger your memory." All three of them started walking towards me with fierce looks. I still couldn't remember who they were.

"I'm sorry but I still don't know who you are." I told them anxiously. I saw a changeling behind the three of them, looking down.

"How many times do I need to tell you... Get the hell OUT AWAY FROM MY BROTHER!" It was Pharynx protecting me, again... Like he always does. I suddenly remembered who the three were.

No, not this time.

"I recognize you now. You were those three bullies who mocked me when we were all innocent young bugs. It certainly is a pleasure to see you again. What a shame, you have became more like mindless jokers than troublesome bullies..." I lost my voice, I can't think of more ways to be assertive with them.

All three started laughing. Was I not great at being assertive too...?

Pharynx staring at us, started hissing at the bullies.

The third bully flew away but the second buly stayed. The second bully must have already sworn loyalty towards the first bully. The first bully continued to talk.

"Wow, Pharynx. Letting your guard down, I see. You would normally turn into a monster and chase us away."

"I could do it again, you now, so choose your moves and words wisely. Thorax, get out of here."

I couldn't leave my brother alone. I still needed the directions. "No. It's time for me to defend myself. Let me handle this alone-" I was cut off by the second bully. He was gonna deal with me while the first started fighting with my brother.

"You just said you wanted to handle this alone. Well, here's your chance. Come at me."

I hesitated at first. Then, I charged at the second bully with all my might.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!" Chrysalis shouted had appeared out from the shadows. She looked at the bullies, Pharynx, then me.

"Oh. So this is what's going on..." Chrysalis said. She facepalmed. "Pharynx, Axery, come with me," Axery, so that was his name. Queen Chrysalis looked at me and the other bully. "And you two, stay put and don't cause any more headaches." Queen Chrysalis flew off with Pharynx and Axery into the same dark corner.

The second bully stared at me fiercely and walked away. I then remembered something Chrysalis said.

"you should get back to your brother, especially if you're planning to come here again."

I followed them into the hole.

The Interrogation

It was really dark, I could barely see where I was going, I could only rely on sound.

When I got closer to Chrysalis, Axery and my brother, I shapeshifted into a grey parasprite to blend in to the background and avoid any suspicions. We flew into an open space full of dull colours. Chrysalis stopped and turned to the two as I watched.

"Now. You two mind telling me what the heck was going on out there?" She asked.

Axery and Pharynx exchanged looks, doing head movements and eye rolls to each other. It seems neither of them wanted to speak first. "Well? I don't suppose you have anything to say, Pharynx? Thorax is your brother after all. " Chrysalis asked, eyeing at him.

Pharynx looked from Axery to Chrysalis. "We weren't really brothers from the start. I was only encouraging him to be more tough and assertive. It was only when he-" He eyed back at Axery again. "And his two other pals decided to mindlessly bother Thorax for no reason. We bacame more closer to each other and benefited each other in a way or two."

Chrysalis raised her eyebrows. "I can only see how you benefited Thorax, how does a weak changeling like him benefit you who is stronger?"

Pharynx remained silent. "He taught me that you don't have to be a bully to prove you're better."

Axery started taking. "I don't see any sense in that."

"Of course you don't. You're a bully. You can ever understand it." Now, I myself don't see any sense in my brother's statement. However, I do know that he's talking about how he got into the position of leader in changeling patrol.

"But you realized that yourself-" Chrysalis interrupted.

"With Thorax's help. If it wasn't for him," He looked Chrysalis in eye to eye. "I doubt you would even put me as leader of changeling patrol." I knew it. He is talking about his position.

Chrysalis grinned. "Smart. Even if you didn't protect Thorax and realized whatever you realized, I might have put Axery in that position..." All three of us except Chrysalis were shocked.

"We STEAL love, we don't SHARE it. What you're saying is that you and Thorax were sharing your brotherly bond with each other!." She hissed at Pharynx.

"I know that. I wasn't sharing my love with him. He was sharing his love with me and I stole it." Pharynx smiled. "I'm afraid you just misunderstood what I said, queen Chrysalis."

Chrysalis was amused. "I think I've taken back what I said earlier..."

I was still in the form of a parasprite. I don't know what to feel. Defeated?Shocked? Betrayed? By my own brother? I knew it... He wasn't my brother. He was my mentor.

He was successful in being my mentor. I failed at being his student. I failed at being a changeling. It's not my place to be here.

Perhaps I was better off as a pony. I should leave the hive, never come back.

The runaway/Meeting Spike

It sucks to think that my brother wasn't really my brother at all. All those pranks, protectiveness and encouragement were fake all along? I couldn't believe Pharynx could turn his back on me like that just to keep his image...

I followed them back to the center of the hive. I still stayed as a parasprite. I plan to leave the hive, it's not where I belong. I flew out of the hive without hesitation.

It was the second time I've been out here so I don't know the way around here, so I guess there's only one place to go.

Canterlot

I tried to remember the direction to Canterlot. I looked down to look at the signboards to check wether I was going towards the right direction. After hours of flying, I decided to look for a spot to rest without getting spotted. There were tons of places in Canterlot filled with ponies so I flew to a different direction.

This time, the temperature was pretty cold. It made the wind stronger. My parasprite form was starting to get really weak, so I turned back into my changeling form. There were snowflakes and fields of snow here.

I saw a place near to a ravine. It's not really a place ponies liked being near to, so I rested there for a couple of minutes.

The rest ended quickly than I thought. I felt a huge wave to love power coming nearby. Was it another wedding? Is that why the power is so strong? I couldn't control myself that well. I tried to get away but it's really good...

I flew closer to absorb the love. Wait! No! I pulled myself back from it. Just then, I saw something. It wasn't a pony. It was a dragon. I haven't seen a dragon this small before...Oh shoot! He's coming closer... And his love is also strong! Agh! Forget it! It'll be less painful if I transform into him. I transformed into him, make him think that it was his reflection instead.

"... Just my reflection. Huh? Ha! Ha-ha! Hmm. Just my imagination, I guess..." The dragon spoke. Once he turned away, I charged at him...

"Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-changeling!" He ran off screaming for help. Damnit Thorax! What were you thinking!? I hurried towards the dragon.

"No. Wait! Come back!" I shouted, trying to get his attention.

The dragon ran too fast, he wasn't even paying attention to where he was going. He fell into the ravine. I flew over to him and grabbed him with my legs. "The ice is pretty slippery. I wouldn't want you to get hurt because of me."

The dragon looked at me. "You... saved me?"

I looked away sadly. "It's okay. I know you don't wanna be friends." Everypony doesn't want to be friends with a changeling... I flew away.

I stopped as the dragon asked me. "Wait! I don't understand. Changelings are supposed to be evil... right?" That's what I thought too.

I told him, "Evil? Oh, not me. All I've ever wanted is a friend." I did have one though, who was also my brother, but he betrayed me...

I started telling him about how I got here. About my past, about the attack, about how I'm literally craving for love right now.

He then told me the reason why there's so much love in the Crystal Empire. "That would be from the royal Crystalling. It's pretty much a giant outpouring of light and love for a new baby". Turns out there's a new member in the Crystal Empire.

The word love is just so... Satisfying to hear and I want it now! I hissed at the dragon. I pulled myself back. "Oh, sorry! I'm just so hungry! If I had a friend, maybe the love we shared could sustain me, but I don't think the Crystal Ponies want to be friends."

He then told me a really foolish thing I find hard to believe. "What if I told you there was somepony they respect and admire so much, he could convince them to give it a try?" I looked at him with confusion and disbelief.

"It's me, Spike! Spike the Brave and Glorious? I'm sure you've heard of me." What does he mean by that? Doesn't he know that I Iive with changelings and not ponies?

"Nope. But I was raised by an evil queen. I'm Thorax. I can't believe you want to help me." I told him.

"Why? Hasn't anypony ever just been nice to you?" Spike asked. If they know I'm out here, definitely not... I accidentally hissed at him again.

"Uh! S-Sorry! Kindness like that kind of brings it out. Do you still wanna be my friend?" I asked. He said yes.

I hissed at him again, that yes has became a "But... maybe I should just, uh, talk to them first."

BACK AT THE HIVE...

Pharynx was flying around in circles, looking everywhere. He saw a ton of changelings training by fighting each other, it was always hectic in the hive. Chaos everywhere, not a place a pony would want to live in, but to a changeling, it's the only place they're accepted in. You don't even have much of a choice anyway.

Axery, who was also looking back and forth, went over to Pharynx. Was he trying to look for something?

"Yo, Pharynx!" He shouted to Pharynx.

Pharynx, cut off from his flying, told Axery, "You know, it's better if you had just talked to me instead of calling me out all the time..."

Axery gasped sarcastically and asked. "Any why should I do as you say?" He smiled and said "You're the head of changeling patrol, not the head of changeling manners."

Pharynx rolled his eyes. He didn't feel bothered by any of Axery's assaults. He had other things to worry about. He sighed and asked Axery dutifully, "I'm gonna regret this but have you seen Thorax?"

Axery blinked and frowned. "What do you think? That I saw him?" He laughed, "Ha! Definitely no!" Pharynx wasn't sure wether he was joking or serious or both. "In fact, he wasn't really some changeling I should look out for. He's yours to look out for."

Pharynx felt as if he got pushed over a cliff of pure stress. "Thanks anyway..." He flew away. The last time he saw Thorax was when Chrysalis called him and Axery over. He never saw Thorax since then. Thorax wouldn't have gone out of the hive, he doesn't even have a good sense of navigation. He couldn't have been anywhere else.

Or could he...?

A changeling came flying back to the hive, panting and shaking of snow. Pharynx recognized that changeling as Thorax's other bully. Rythe. He didn't look fine.

"Thorax...he betrayed the hive." He said quietly.

"What" Pharynx hissed. "did you just say...?"

"It's true brother, I saw him!-" Rythe protested.

" Don't 'brother' me... Pharynx said again, holding Rythe onto the ground. "You never even acted like a brother to me, or him..."

Axery murmured "Says the brother who said that he stole his brother's love..." Pharynx stared at him with fury. "Maye I should just, you know, shut up." Axery continued.

Rythe kicked Pharynx with his legs and got off the ground. "I saw it with my own eyes, Thorax was talking to a dragon who is friends with the ponies!" Pharynx then faced to every changeling. "Thorax should be kicked out of the hive!" Every changeling agreed with him.

Pharynx flew away from every changeling. He never felt embarrassed before, the humiliation was towards his brother but it made him want to punch himself in the face for not standing up for his brother, especially during the Interrogation.

Hold up, did Thorax eavesdrop on them, did he overhear the conversation Was he the reason Thorax left the hive?

That made Pharynx extra guilty for betraying his own brother.

He needed to find Thorax, quickly, before something terrible happens to him.

The mission

View Online

As a leader of changeling patrol, you have a great sense of navigation. Not only that, you're expected to act fierce and be fearless. Since the changelings are now a swarm of attackers, you don't have time for chitchats or games, only training and fighting to the last breath.

Pharynx is leader of changeling patrol, he's one of the best changelings in the hive, while his brother was the weakest. It's kinda strange, isn't it? A strong changeling and a weak changeling spending their lives together as brothers. Normally, weak changelings and strong changelings don't get along with each other. The strong one would bully the weak one. That was how it is in the hive.

Pharynx, however, even though part of him didn't like Thorax for being so naive and weak, he still wanted Thorax to be in his best state of health. He has always promised himself to protect Thorax no matter what, wether it's bullying, depression, being threatened, he's living to see his brother alive and fine. He knows the risks, but he doesn't care.

Atleast that's what he told himself.

Pharynx flew until the back of the hive. He didn't think about all the insults or accusations towards his brother, but just about getting his brother back home.

Pharynx made it to back of the hive, where Queen Chrysalis was busy draining a bear's love. Queen Chrysalis was aware of Pharynx fast flying and focused expression. She stopped draining the bear and left it in a cacoon she made specifically for her victims.

"What's the rush, Pharynx?" She asked, turning to him.

Pharynx didn't respond. He kept flying while eyeing at her carefully and then back to the direction he was going to. Just when he was about to reach the end, he was noticed by Queen Chrysalis. Queen Chrysalis rushed after him. Luckily, he managed to outfly the queen swiftly. However, like the changelings' old saying...

One can overpower their own leader, but one certainly cannot overpower their queen.

Pharynx was levitated and held mid-air by Queen Chrysalis. "Where do you think you're going!? Do you have any idea how dangerous to go outside alone?"

She demanded him an answer quickly but all Pharynx responded was "Exactly. That's why I have to get outside and bring Thorax back."

"What? Thorax went outside!?" the queen exclaimed in an exaggerated raging tone.

"Yes. Didn't you hear? Or were you too busy draining love from that bear?" Pharynx talked back, looking at the unconscious bear. "Maybe you were, it was crazy back there you know?" He continued, looking back at where he flew from.

"I-, Fine! Get your brother's flank back here." She took off, looking back at Pharynx one last time and said, "But be quick, I don't want one of my best subjects going missing."

"You have my word." Pharynx replied back. He flew outside.

Outside...

The cold outside was bearable, it was freezing, but toleratable. Thorax should be around here in the Crystal Empire. From what he could gather from Rythe, Thorax went in the castle thanks to the dragon so he might be manipulating his own body as a form of a pony.

This should be tough. He thought. He already had an idea on finding Thorax. Pharynx shapeshifted into a pony himself and went to a random pony and asked her, "Uh, excuse me. But I heard about a dragon who brought a changeling-".

Before Pharynx could finish his sentence, the pony already answered cheerfully, "You mean Spike the Brave and Glorious?"

"Well, yes...How about the changeling?" Pharynx went straight to the point.

"Uhm..." She thought fore a while and whispered to a few ponies. Those ponies whispered back. She went back to Pharynx and shook her head. "We don't really recall the changeling's name."

Pharynx's expression fell. "Oh. Okay. Thanks anyway." He walked back.

"Wait!" The mare shouted, running after him. "You could ask the princesses or the changeling yourself. I'm pretty sure the changeling is still there. Right?" She turned to another pony, but that pony just ignored her and walked away.

The mare sighed. "Well, I guess you could find out yourself." She told Pharynx and walked away.

"Nice meeting you." Pharynx murmured. He knew exactly what to do now.

In the castle...

Pharynx knew that pony castles always have guards guarding it. Ever since a changeling, who was actually Thorax, has been spotted nearby, there have been extra guards around patrolling.

Pharynx went into the big hall, it was empty. He could hear distant murmurs from the room at the end.

The throne room.

There were only two guards in front of the door. Just act normal, he thought.

The first guard looked at him and asked carefully. "Who are you? And why are you here in the castle?"

"To see my friend. There's an urgent matter and I need to see him now." He replied.

The guard thought for a second. "Wait here." He said. The guard headed into the room and asked the princess something. Soon, he came back and told Pharynx "You are free to enter." Pharynx smiled again the guard and headed inside.

Inside the room there were Princess Cadence, Princess Twilight and several other ponies he didn't know. He guessed that they were Twilight's friends. He saw Thorax looking at him strangely eye-to-eye.

Princess Cadence looked at Pharynx with a mix of confusion and enlightenment. "We were wondering who you are. Neither of us recgonize you. So uhm, do you mind introducing yourself?"

Pharynx was enraged. Thorax, you dumb changeling! No changeling must reveal themselves unless they're in a war! "No introductions are needed. I just want to talk with that changeling." He pointed at Thorax, who was looking anxious. Thorax needed to be taught a lesson.

Cadence looked at Thorax. "Do you mind? You don't have to if you don't want to..." She asked.

Thorax let out a sigh and said. "No no. It's completely fine."

"Very well." Cadence replied. She turned to Pharynx. "You may talk to hlm."

Pharynx nodded as both brothers headed out from the throne room.

Pharynx led Thorax to a dark alley. "So... uh, where are we going?" Thorax asked from behind. "You know, this place is fine. We can talk here." He suggested.

"Yes. This place is quite fine for a nice chat." He agreed. He turned to Thorax, "Now, let's start by you telling me why you ran out of the hive without permission." Pharynx told his brother.

"W-what are you talking about?" Thorax asked nervously.

"Oh, for love's sake. Don't tell me you don't even recognise your own brother." He scolded Thorax. He transformed back into his changeling form.

The shared secrets

"P-pharynx? How are you here?"

I can't believe my eyes. Why was he out here? Isn't he not allowed to be outside of the hive? "Aren't you supposed to be at the hive?" I asked him.

"Perhaps I should ask you the same thing. I got permission from the queen to find you." He told me steadily. Doubt it... I exhaled dramatically, closing my eyes.

"Is that so...?" I asked him, staring at him with a straight face. "I didn't think that you of all changelings would come to find me." I looked up at the sky still filled with snow, then looked down again with near hopeless eyes and half-smiled. "I thought I was a lost cause, a disappointment to the hive."

"And you still are." He continued, finishing my sentence. He got up flapping his wings. "Now come on, we gotta go." He looked at me straight in the eye. "Unless you'd rather be a traitor stay out here instead.

I stood for a while. No. No way I'm gonna go back there again. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "No." I told Pharynx.

Pharynx glared at me with shock. "What!? After all I've done and sacrificed. You chose to betray the hive?"

I opened my mouth to protest. "No! Of course not." I softened my voice a little. "I wouldn't betray the hive like that."

"Then?" He asked. "Why no?"

"I-" I hesitated. How do I say this... I just feel safer here. No, obviously not. I think being here is what's best. Maybe, but still not the best thing to say. The thing is, I heard you saying that you stole my love? No, not that either.

"I just want to feel what it's like to be outside a little..." I told him. A ridiculous lie. Though, I do actually want to take a refresher and be outside for a little more.

Pharynx stared at me with a weird look. "Really? That's it?"

"Well. Yeah." I said

Pharynx facepalmed himself. "You're in so much trouble..."

I chuckled a little and sighed. "There is no escaping from trouble in the hive..."

It was another long trip back to the hive. We flew across Canterlot and the Crystal Empire. It was pretty quiet on the way back. It felt akward. I looked away for a while to look back at the snowy empire. Hope to see you again, Spike. I thought and smiled.

"You look glad." Pharynx said finally. "What actually happened back at the castle?"

"Oh! The castle. Eh... It was all small stuff. Nothing special." I said. "What about you?" I asked him. I noticed the slight bruises on Pharynx's body. I didn't want to mention it though.

Pharynx was still. He frowned as he didn't want to talk about it. I wouldn't actually mind much, I know everyone doesn't really like to talk about personal stuff.

Pharynx finally broke the silence and said, "You remember Axery and Rythe, don't you?"

"Of course. What about them?" I asked.

"Turns out they do care about your existence after all. They just don't care about your life. Rythe was the one announcing your sudden leave. I had to know. I- " He stopped, and he became even furious. "Well, I didn't wanna believe him and threatened him to tell the truth and he kicked me and said you were a freaking traitor to the hive. Every changeling agreed with him."

"I... I shouldn't have left the hive like that..." I felt tears coming out of my eyes. "I should've just laid back like an outcast.

"You shouldn't have." Pharynx agreed but said. "But still, it's not like you could stay quiet your entire life."

I silently nodded. We stayed quiet as the hive went closer to the eyes.

When we made it back, every changeling was either stunned or mad, or both. Queen Chrysalis turned and walked towards us with fierce-looking eyes.

"Pharynx, you were serious about getting your brother back, aren't you...?" She asked in a wavy tone. "I thought you were just trying to get the job done."

"I am serious about both." He said.

Both, really?

Queen Chrysalis looked surprised. "But you said-"

"Everything I said that time was true, Queen Chrysalis. There's no need for confirmation." He said again.

Queen Chrysalis' eyes grew wider as her mouth frowned even more. "How dare you talk back to your queen like that!?" She closed her eyes and whispered, "I trusted you more than every changeling... I trusted you at obeying orders. I trusted your words. I trusted when you said you were gonna build Thorax up..."

"And I did. You need to trust me on this one too..." I know what he's gonna say next. "I know him better than anyone" But his voice lost him. He clearly doesn't want to admit it.

I don't too... And maybe it's time we both do.

I took a deep breath and asked. "If you'll excuse us, Queen Chrysalis. I want to talk to my brother." I thought about the safe way of saying it. "About something personal. Will you excuse us for a bit?"

I heard several changelings whispering about both me and my brother.

"Wow, Thorax is actually being useful for once." "Pharynx looks kinda beat up if I'm being honest." "What an odd relationship between two changelings. I don't think I want a sibling, ever."

Queen Chrysalis looked back from the crowd and looked at us. "Sure. Get your 'problem' fixed..." She flew away.

I turned to Pharynx with a worried look. "I know you're hiding something from me. There's more to what happened back at the hive, is there...?"

Pharynx chuckled and looked at me sarcastically. "I could say the same thing about you."

"Everyone has secrets. Everyone has limits at telling those secrets. I guess I could say more about what happened. In return, you'll tell me more about your side."

"Fine." Pharynx muttered. "I suppose that's fair enough."

I smiled and started telling more about my experience at the castle. As much as I want to open up, I still felt like there are things better left unsaid for now.

"There was actually a celebration there. A newborn baby. They gathered the entire city to celebrate the birth of the new royal member. They called it a crystalling."

Pharynx looked interested about the crystalling. "No wonder I felt really hungry. The love power was really strong. Tell me more."

I rolled my eyes and said. "But I was there after the crystalling. So I can't really tell much. I also had an urge to feed." I realized that I should be more careful with my words now. "It got my cover blown. I thought that I was gonna get in trouble but the ponies... They were nice." Even though it was Spike who was nice, he just let Pharynx believe it. "They embraced friendship towards me. I felt even more loved than I've been my entire life..." I said.

Pharynx looked at me with shock and slight jealousy. He tilted his head a little. "Glad you had fun, little brother."

"Thanks." I said. "Now you."

Before Pharynx got the chance to open his mouth, two changelings stepped in. "Hate to ruin your reunion, but we just wanna make sure that Pharynx here is actually telling the truth." Axery said, looking at Pharynx. "I'm afraid that we can't trust Pharynx at telling the truth.”

Pharynx's eyes grew wider as his expression grew furious. "This is none of your business! This is between me and Thorax. We have... personal things to talk over..."

"Of course... Siblings always have troubles with each other and they can only count on each other."

I sighed and looked at Pharynx. "You don't have to tell me, Pharynx, I already know..."

All of them looked at me. "What?" They all said in unison.

"I overheard your conversation with Queen Chrysalis."

Pharynx looked defeated. "So I was right... It was my fault you left the hive."

"I just want to let you know, I don't blame you... You were pressured by Queen Chrysalis. No changeling wants to disappoint her."

"You're right about that. No changeling would ever want to disappoint me." Queen Chrysalis appeared from behind. Axery and Rythe anxiously bowed and left. Queen Chrysalis looked at Pharynx. "Especially a changeling that's in charge of changeling patrol." She said with amusement.

Queen Chrysalis looked at me and said. "Also, I can prove that he's actually telling the truth." She looked back at Thorax. "This is your last chance at proving you're the best changeling I've ever had."

Pharynx looked at Queen Chrysalis curiously and raised an eyebrow. "I'm listening..."

Queen Chrysalis smiled and said. "I need you to suck your brother's love. If you refuse to do so, then you'll be demoted of your leading position."

I looked at my brother with stunned and worried eyes.

"Now Pharynx, what's your choice?" Queen Chrysalis asked.

The last hope

View Online

There is no way he's gonna do that. Suck out my love, to prove he's the best changeling? No way I'm letting him. No way he's gonna risk his brother for image, but I'm not the one in charge of his choices.

Looking at Pharynx, it felt like he was gonna blow. He stood there with his eyes wide in horror. The last thing he's ever wanted to do was choosing between the thing he loved and the one he loved.

"Aren't there other ways to prove it than sucking all the love out of me?" I asked. "It doesn't really change a thing anyways..." Are there though?

"The choice is his to make. To see where he stands by for. The hive or his brother." Chrysalis said.

Oh. Loyalty. Even worse. My brother was the most loyal changeling I've ever known. It would be like asking me to choose between my brother or Spike.

Spike. It's been a while since I saw him. Would I ever see him again?

Pharynx's mouth started moving. His words were a murmur to me. Queen Chrysalis forced his words out. "What are you trying to say?"

"If it's loyalty you're asking for, I choose to stand by the hive." His voice was steady. He really does stand by the hive.

"Great." Queen Chrysalis said. "But just to be sure. Suck out your brother's love."

I thought Pharynx knew better than this...

I flew away from Queen Chrysalis and Pharynx. Pharynx gasped with realization. He tried to run after me and call out for me.

"Thorax! Where are you going!" He yelled.

I stopped and eyed at him. "I don't know!? Somewhere far away? Were you expecting me to stand there and be sucked?"

Pharynx looked at me and closed his eyes, letting the tears come out. "Thorax, you know how much I love the hive..."

I sighed. "Oh, don't worry. I know that you love being at the hive. I like it here too. It's somewhere I won't be judged of being a changeling, but it was you who made me love it." I gazed over at an empty space and continued. "I remembered how you stood up for me against Axery and Rythe. I admired that part of you. The protective, loyal you. Something I've never seen in anyone else."

Pharynx walked closer to me and lended out a hoof. I hesitated but put one of my hooves on his. "I would never stop caring about you, little brother, but it's not just you I care about. Axery, Rythe, even Queen Chrysalis, they may not be the kindest changelings around but they have a life too. It's my job to protect them."

"It's not necessarily your job to protect them." I told him, still holding on to his hoof. "You're leader of changeling patrol, not the father of all changelings."

Pharynx eyes dropped a little. I remembered what Queen Chrysalis said. She would remove Pharynx's position if he chose to stand by me instead.

Him running after me is a sign that he chose me instead...

Queen Chrysalis came flying after us. Her face was filled with rage. "We have some unfinished business to settle." she said.

Pharynx looked at her eye-to-eye. "I'm not doing it."

"What!?" she exclaimed.

"I'm not. Do I have to repeat myself?" He said again.

Queen Chrysalis frowned and sighed. "Very well. I suppose that someone else will be leader of changeling patrol..."

I spreaded my eyes widely in horror. I looked at Pharynx, surprised to see he's not offended. "Fine." he said. "Demote me if you want. I doubt you'll find a more suitable fit anyways."

Queen Chrysalis looked at us. "You're right... If you won't choose me." She looked at Pharynx with amusement. "I'll make you choose me!"

Queen Chrysalis levitated Pharynx towards herself and started to drain his love. I felt my eyes turning teary as I begged Queen Chrysalis to let him go.

"Stop it! Please... You're not gonna make him choose you by force!" I let out a yell. "You're killing him!"

It's not helping... She's still draining his love. How does he have so much love... There's no point in asking that right now!

Queen Chrysalis stopped draining Pharynx's love and dumped him in front of me as she walked away. How heartless... I ran over to Pharynx and broke down over him.

There aren't any medics, doctors or surgeons in the hive. The only thing I could count on was hope. Hope that he'll stay alive and well. I laid beside him. Pharynx, you have to stay, got it...? You can't go now... There's so much I need to talk to you about... I need you... Big brother. He never got the chance to refer Pharynx as his big brother ever since everything else happened. It made him unsure about it.

••••••

Pharynx had never felt so free or weak in his life before. He felt as light as a feather. He observed his surroundings, it was just a spacious area in white colour. Was he dead? He didn't think he was, he was still aware of the famaliar voice in his mind.

Thorax's voice.

Thorax was basically begging him to come back to life which was an impossible feat at the moment.

Perhaps, there's another way.

Pharynx focused on the white barrier around himself as hardly as he could. Images of certain events that happened throughout his life all started flashing in his mind at once. The times he stood up for his Thorax. The times he patrolled around the hive. The times he was in battle.

The feelings that collided all started to come back flowing towards Pharynx like a tsunami. He gained more than enough conciousness to return to his body. It was all a shock to him. He was relieved, hungry too. Since all his love is sucked, he can't function well.

He couldn't control himself to the point he doesn't know who to actually feed on. He lashed out to that one changeling he would be willing to die and kill for, Thorax...

The unwanted sacrifice

Thorax pleaded Pharynx to get off him as he pinned Thorax to the ground hissing violently at me. Thorax stared at his brother with shiny eyes. Pharynx flinched away from Thorax and glared back at him the next second. I can't do this... he thought. Even if he was hungry and desperate for love, he couldn't just feast on his brother mercilessly. He'd rather do it on a pony instead.

"You're hungry." Thorax said. "You have to feed, immediately." He sighed dramatically. "On me."

"I won't," Pharynx said, his voice was trembling and soft but steady. "Feed on you, I'll find a pony, or another creature." He finished as he slowly walked away.

Thorax flew after his brother and stood in front of him. "No, you won't feed on ponies or anything else. You have to feed on me." He looked away from Pharynx. "I actually want you to. I don't want to live a life like this. It's not what I want to be like. Besides, Queen Chrysalis wants you to do this too. It's what's best for you, Pharynx." He told Pharynx.

Pharynx opened his mouth to argue. "But it's not what's best for you-"

"What's best for me is that I leave the hive and and never come back!" He shouted. He gasped and covered his mouth and calmed down. "That was actually why I left the hive. I didn't want to be a burden and a letdown, your weakness..."

Pharynx looked at Thorax and chuckled slightly. He rolled his eyes. "Weakness? Ha!" He stared at Thorax with a straight face. "What are you talking about?"

Thorax's expression dropped instantly. "Don't you get it...? If I wasn't here, you wouldn't have to worry about me everytime. You can focus on other stuff that way."

"What other stuff there is?" Pharynx asked. "My job and you are the only thing I focus on."

"Exactly! You can focus only on your job without the thought of me brothering you." Thorax said with a sigh of relief.

"Protecting you is part of my job!" Pharynx hissed.

"Protecting me means protecting the ponies and I know you hate ponies so protecting me and protecting the hive or Queen Chrysalis are two different things!" Thorax yelled with tears forming in his eyes.

"I can have both." Pharynx said steadily.

"No, you can't." Thorax argued. "And you never will..." He flew away sobbing. He looked back at Pharynx. "Me or the hive. Your choice, and don't even think about lying again..."

Pharynx stood there melancholy, his eyes dropping with sadness. He walked away slowly as he was still hungry but he didn't care. It was one of the first things he learnt to do when he was leader of changeling patrol, to fight through the pain and endure it."

Pharynx walked across the hive as he saw all the changelings either fighting or roasting each other. He turned to two changelings and stopped as he tried to get away. The two changelings glanced at him and smirked evilly as they stepped up.

"We heard that you got demoted... Well, that's sad..." Axery said as he slowly rolled his eyes. His voice then sounded thrilled. "But, hey, atleast you don't have to choose now."

Pharynx looked down and shut his eyes. He eyed flashed towards Axery and Rythe as he slowly said, "Yeah, totally. The price I had to pay is getting sucked by Queen Chrysalis. Isn't that amazing?" He frowned and muttered something under his breath.

Axery and Rythe listened in horror but then bursted into laughs. Axery then teased Pharynx in a cold manner with a half-smie. "Ouch. That must've hurt." He stared at Pharynx. "Didn't it?"

Pharynx sighed. "Yeah..." He walked towards Axery while maintaining a fierce look. "And you are the last changeling I wanted to see after that happened. Then I thought, I couldn't bring myself to feed on my brother, I care about him. Nor I can find a pony outside... Why not feed on the changeling i never wanted to see in the first place?"

Rythe stared at the two of them and flew away swiftly. Axery glanced at Rythe ad yelled at him to get back but it was too late. He looked back at Pharynx and cursed at him harshly.

Pharynx expression turned more furious and desperate. "Consider this payback after all you've done..." He then started to suck out Axery's love with no mercy whatsoever.

Thorax was looking at the view as other changelings started to gather around Pharynx and Axery to see what's happening. Huh? He also squeezed through the crowd of changelings cheering and gasping in horror at what they're looking at.

Thorax tried to reach out to his brother to stop but Pharynx was clearly taken away by rage. Thorax sighed and flew towards him and reasoned with him the best he could.

"I told you to do it on me! Not Axery!" Thorax pleaded. "Get of him...please..." For me...

Suddenly, there was a loud voice of anger booming across the hive as Queen Chrysalis flew into the hive.

" WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!?"

The forced choices

View Online

Queen Chrysalis never really cared whatsoever for her subjects, she could count the few changelings she liked only on one hoof. As time went on, those changelings were the only ones she trusted the most. She gave them chances she gave no one else. The leader of patrol position for Pharynx, Axery having three chances while others have one and the privilege of doing whatever he wants for Thorax. She still thinks that Thorax is the worst changeling though.

In the end, one betrayed the hive, one betrayed her and the last one died. Is there anyone else she could trust? Certainly not after what happened...
••••••
Queen Chrysalis was expecting another drama going on in the hive like always. After the failed invasion with Canterlot, she knew she had to think smarter about her next one, the ultimate revenge. Just when she was about to get on with it, a chatter of noises came from nearby. She rolled her eyes and opened her wings as she flew towards the direction the noises were coming from.

She landed gracefully on her hooves. She looked around to see that she was too late, her view was blocked by her subjects. She rolled her eyes again and levitated all those changelings upwards with her horn, dropped them the next second with a loud thud. She instantly gasped with her eyes wide on what she saw.
••••••
Thorax noticed Queen Chrysalis glaring at them. She flew towards Axery's drained body and slowly put a hoof on it. Queen Chrysalis eyes flashed with shock and sighed.

"He's dead." Queen Chrysalis said as she lifted Axery's lifeless body and disposed it somewhere outside the hive. She looked at Pharynx with her eyes narrowed. "What is wrong with you during these few days?" She questioned him with hopes for a valid answer.

Thorax's eyes widened with fury. He flew up towards Queen Chrysalis and didn't hesitate at all to say it out loud. "What's wrong with him? Isn't that obvious? He's hungry!" Every changeling was stunned by Thorax's words, even Pharynx and Queen Chrysalis herself. They've never seen Thorax so strong before, the way he stood up for his brother, that's the only thing Thorax wanted to do. Not because he wanted to show how strong he can be, but because he wanted to be there for Pharynx, he owed him that, that's for sure.

"Well, that doesn't mean he could feed on whoever he wishes to! Now Axery is dead because of your brother!" Queen Chrysalis argued. Her voice was filled with disappointment. She closed her eyes and looked away, "Now even the changelings I've trusted the most aren't worth it anymore..." She walked away, so did the changelings. There were only Thorax and Pharynx left.

Thorax faced his brother and hugged him but Pharynx pushed him aside. Without a word, Pharynx flew away. Thorax sighed miserably under his breath and also walked away with silence, looking back at his brother one more time. He would've just followed him, but it's probably time to give Pharynx some space to calm himself down. Thorax considered doing the same as well.
••••••
At this point, Thorax felt lost in his life, unsure if he's gonna stay at the hive, or leave for the better. He was gonna leave but because of what happened to his brother, he didn't even feel like leaving. He wanted to be there for his brother. At the same time, he wanted to see Spike again, his first real friend he met.

Thorax stopped by when he saw Queen Chrysalis talking to a- crystal? It's kinda weird but he didn't care, he focused on the words she said. Since she was pretty far, he couldn't exactly hear what she said , but at one point he was sure he heard "revenge". Thorax didn't need to guess what she was actually saying.

All of Thorax's friends are in danger, and he might be the only one that is able to warn them about it. He knew that he needed to leave now. He just had to, not without convincing Pharynx.
••••••
"Are you nuts!?" was Pharynx's response, really straightforward and predictable. Thorax should've known that it was hopeless. Pharynx not only said those three words. They also came with, "I don't know what led you to think that I would help you with convincing Queen Chrysalis nor that I would help ponies. That's ridiculous!"

"For me...?" Thorax said with a shud. He then tried to please Pharynx. "I mean... don't you want to leave this terrible life where you have to feed on innocent creatures? Where you are only permitted to do things under Queen Chrysalis's approval? Don't you want to have a queen who doesn't question your loyalties?" He was hoping the last one would change his brother's mind. To his surprise... It didn't... He was on his own on this one.

Thorax sighed and looked down. Thorax have decided what he's gonna do now. He was going to leave the hive, no brother is gonna help him, he's gonna do it himself. Besides, Pharynx doesn't appear to care much for Thorax as he used to. Besides, why continue being at the hive when your close brother decides to not help you?
••••••
Pharynx didn't mind Thorax choosing ponies over the hive, over him, his own brother. He started thinking back of what Thorax said about him leaving the hive is what's best for both Pharynx and himself. He could see sense into that statement. In fact, he agreed with it. He just didn't know how to tell Thorax that. He's more used to keeping things to himself than express then openly. He sometimes wondered how Thorax managed to do so.

Pharynx also thought of what he had said. "I don't know what led you to think that I would help you with convincing Queen Chrysalis nor that I would help ponies. That's ridiculous!" As much as how ridiculous it sounds, he wanted to get away from Queen Chrysalis. He's tired of her harshness, her merciless attitude, her ego, everything about that changeling, but he wasn't tired of the other side of her, the determined side of her. That's what he admired about her. When he was given the position of lead of patrol, he couldn't be more amused.

Until that got taken from him. The only thing he could focus on now is getting that back, and he knew exactly just what to do.

He just had to prove that he's still trustworthy and capable to Queen Chrysalis. Now that he knows about her so-called revenge, this would be so much easier.

The ghosted wounds

"What are you really planning?"

Queen Chrysalis was not expecting an eavesdropper, she turned and saw a curious Pharynx standing by the entrance covered in leaves. Her reaction was replaced with a disgusted frown. She didn't move towards him or flinch in surprise. Ever since Axery died because of Pharynx, she couldn't bring herself together as she should have done. It's like Pharynx is feeding on love as well as sharing them. "Planning? I didn't plan anything." She said, trying to brush away her questionable thoughts. "Where did you even get that assumption from?"

Pharynx smirked. "There's no point in pretending. Thorax filled me in about your 'revenge' against the ponies." Pharynx replied sternly. His expression dropped. "You would have told me about it..."

"I would have," the queen told him, still hesitant to look at him. "If you were still leader of patrol. Although, even if you still are, I doubt that I can still trust you." She then thought of something. "Thorax, He...told you about this?"

Pharynx looked at Chrysalis with a straight face. "I guess he was eavesdropping... Quite a brave move, though I wouldn't advise him to do that."

Queen Chrysalis let out a "Hmph!". "He'd better not. Speaking of which, where is Thorax right now?" She asked, finally turning to him.

Pharynx expression was focused. "Don't. Change the subject. What's the plan?"

Queen Chrysalis gave Pharynx a sudden glare. "I don't take orders from arrogant narcissistic grubs!"

Pharynx slightly rolled his eyes at Chrysalis in annoyance. "Fine. Have it your way." He pointed his hoof outside the hive. "He's somewhere there. Probably with the ponies. Probably warning them about your plan."

Queen Chrysalis was taken aback. She quickly cooled down. "Well, he's gonna regret that decision for the rest of his life. He'll see what's coming for the ponies."

"And that is?" Pharynx asked. "It's not we're gonna barge into another wedding. We've seen how powerful they are together. We have to keep them apart."

"Keeping them apart is not necessary, it's us who have to be apart. Thers are quite a lot of powerful ponies all around Equestria. Mostly being the royals. We have to capture them, but quickly."

"So that we can get it done faster and take control of Equestria." Pharynx finished.

"Yes, but we also need a few changelings guarding the hive." Chrysalis also said. "I planned to put Axery in that position but..." Her voice faded away, staring coldly at Pharynx. "You know what happened."

"Right..." Pharynx said as he leaned towards the wall. "Since when do you care about our safety and well-being? You can put Rythe in that position too, or better, me."

"Yes yes, but I think you're better outside." Chrysalis suggested.

"Yeah. You and I both know that I'm the best."

Queen Chrysalis nodded her head in agreement.

Now's your chance. Pharynx thought to himself. He silently took a deep breath. "And I should be head of patrol again. I'm the best fit there is."

Queen Chrysalis stared at Pharynx. "I beg your pardon?"

"I'd argue that the hive would be unstable without an actual head of patrol. Almost every changeling here are total cowards!" Pharynx exclaimed.

"Almost? Does that include Thorax?" Queen Chrysalis asked wisely. Maybe it was wrong to threaten the changeling after all, but it probably helped him reflect and toughen up. She waited for the changeling to answer.

Pharynx was aware that he was being tested again. If he chooses Thorax again, what Chrysalis would do to him might be worse than the last. Yet, if he chooses the hive, he'll be betraying his brother. He took a long time to consider. He then took a deep breath.

"If I'm being honest, then... Yeah. That includes Thorax." He then closed his eyes and said. "I should've known he wasn't really fit to be at the hive anyways..."

Queen Chrysalis thought about it and finally said it. "Fine. You may be head of patrol again." She then threw a glare at him. "But that doesn't mean we're good. I'll still be keeping an eye on you."

Pharynx raised an eyebrow. You and me won't ever be good, and are you sure that last part's true? He thought curiously, unsure if he even wanted an awswer or not.

Pharynx decided to ask one last question. "So, when do we attack?"

Queen Chrysalis swiftly smiled and chuckled softly. "We attack as soon as possible. The best time is tonight."

"Then I guess I shall start preparing our soldiers." Pharynx said. Queen Chrysalis nodded in approval as he lew off, leaving Queen Chrysalis all by herself. She turned and grinned evilly. Just you wait Thorax, you'll see just what happens to you after we succed in taking over Equestria...

••••••

Shining Armor and Princess Cadence exchanged worried looks. Princess Cadence looked at Flurry Heart then at Thorax. "Are you sure that's really what Chrysalis said?"

"Absolutely!" Thorax exclaimed. "And she might be more powerful this time! She might even successfully take over Equestria!" Thorax said in a worrying tone.

Shining Armor stood up and said sternly. "Well, the best we can do is prepare for whatever that might come." He then looked at Flurry Heart who still has no idea what's going on. "We also have to take extra care of Flurry."

Thorax nodded. "I'm sure you guys would defeat Chrysalis."

"We shouldn't have our hopes high just yet. Chrysalis may choose whenever to attack. I'll have our guards notified." Shining said. Cadence smiled and nodded. Shining Armor ran outside in a flash.

She looked back at Thorax and told him, "You can stay at the Crystal Empire in the meantime. You have prooved you're trustworthy." Her voice then softened. "Unless you wanna go back to the hive..."

Thorax then interrupted immediately. "Oh, no! I'd rather stay here instead."

"But don't you want to go back to your family?" Cadence asked the changeling.

"Family? I... Don't really have any real family anymore..." Thorax said dutifully. "The only family I have now is probably also thinking of cutting ties with me." Maybe he already made the decision...

Cadence sighed. "Very well. Sorry for asking. We're glad to have you here."

"Uh-huh." Thorax slowly flew outside of the throne room. He then looked at the hive which looked nearly impossible to see from afar. Well, Pharynx, I've made my decision. I'm sorry I let you down but this is what's best for the both of us. You don't believe it but it really does.

••••••

Pharynx, along with Queen Chrysalis told every changeling about the plan. Rythe eventually ended up being the one guarding the hive along with some others. Once they were done, every changeling got back to their own business. Pharynx silently flew outside, looking at the sky.

I have no choice, Thorax. This is the only way I can get my happiness back. You would want that too, don't you...? I would want you back too, but since you're 'better' off with the ponies. I will not come back for you, ever. If you're choosing ponies over your own kind, I should consider choosing the hive over you fine as well. If this is how it's going to be, then let it be. Let's be enemies from now on. Have fun with your 'pony' friends... Thorax.

The refusal to move on

View Online

Rythe was shaking his head miserably, he wasn't ready for Pharynx to become head of patrol again. He slowly sighed as he looked at Pharynx with tired eyes.

"So, you're saying that we have to capture all the princesses and all the other powerful ponies?" He asked his leader.

"Yes. If that isn't obvious." Pharynx responded flatly.

Rythe say up straight. "Including the baby?" He asked as he looked at the cocoon Pharynx is currently wrapping.

"Uh-huh. The baby may seem like a fragile weakling but she's actually damn powerful." Pharynx said, rolling his eyes in annoyance. "And we're done."

Rythe's eyes widened in surprise. "That quick?" He flew up to Pharynx to take at clearer look at the cocoon. It really was wrapped up.

"I am not only the head of patrol, I'm also clearly the best changeling around here." Pharynx stated, glaring at Rythe, pointing a hoof at him. "That also means I could do anything faster than any of you."

Rythe mumbled something that sounded like a "mmhmm..." Pharynx ignored him as he moved on to check on the other cocoons. Rythe followed him from behind. "So, what about Thorax?" He asked in curiousity. He move his eyes, gazing out for a while. "You know, I find it interesting, you're the best, Thorax- not really, I find it weird how you two could get along with each other just fine. If I had a brother like that, I would rather have him kicked out." He had a little tone of annoyance in his voice.
.
Pharynx wasn't pleased to have his brother brought up at this period of time. Especially when their relationship is currently on the edge right now...

Thinking of Rythe's statement, "Seems to me you'd rather have him dead instead." He said. Rythe was taken aback for a second, he frowned and looked away.

"Me and Axery weren't as close as you and Thorax are. We didn't give a damn about each other... and I think I'd rather keep it that way." He snickered sarcastically. "It beats having to regain back the queen's trust..." He stopped, preferably avoiding getting hit by Pharynx again. It was already too late, Pharynx was already glaring and hissing at him.

Rythe gulped and quickly decided fly away. Pharynx watched him and took a deep breath. He flew away too, wandering where Queen Chrysalis is.

••••••

Pharynx flew as fast as a pegasus could, his wings buzzed loudly an echoed throughout the hive. He stopped once he saw Queen Chrysalis sitting on he throne. He flew towards her and bowed in respect.

"There you are. I've been waiting for you. How are the cocoons?" She asked.

"They're all secured." Pharynx answered the queen. The question still ringing in his mind, Out of all the changelings you could pick from, you chose me instead...

Queen Chrysalis said, "Good." Her voice raising louder as she became more stern. "I need you to help with another thing."

His expression didn't change at all. "And that is?"

Before she could answer, a loud manly voice interrupted. There's an intruder in the hive! Which is also what Queen Chrysalis wanted him to help with. However, it was already cleared.

Rythe and a another changelings rushed in. "There are four intruders in the hive!"

Queen Chrysalis's eyes widened. "Who are they!?"

"I have no idea! But they were two ponies, one dragon-pony creature which I had no idea it exists!" Rythe exclaimed anxiously.

"And the other one?" Both Pharynx and Queen Chrysalis demanded in unison. They glanced at each other then back at Rythe. Please don't let it be who I think it is..., Pharynx thought to himself.

Rythe told the both of them a name they were all too familiar with, trying not to look at Pharynx.

"Thorax."

It was Pharynx's turn to widen his eyes. Well damn you Thorax! Pharynx thought again. What the heck were you thinking about!?

••••••

Pharynx was hiding in the dark corners of the hive when Rythe had found him.

"What are you doing here alone?" He asked. Pharynx ignored him.

"Every changeling is outside observing the chaos. You might wanna take a look." He suggested.

Pharynx stared at Rythe. "What do you mean?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

Rythe said nothing, he just pointed a hoof outside and few away. Wanting to know what he meant, Pharynx followed him outside.

••••••

While getting outside, they were disturbed by a strong powerful blast of wave. We got there as soon as possible. We saw a cocoon in the air. A purple pony softly knocked it and it opened.

It was Thorax, but he looked different than he was before. He was huge and yellow. Quite bright and colorful for a changeling. What's the meaning of this? Pharynx thought.

The purple pony spoke up. "This is what happens when you share love instead of stealing them!" Share love!? What is going on!?

Slowly, all the other changelings have started sharing their love to defeat Chrysalis, all also becoming colorful changelings. Even Rythe transformed into them. They all looked different and unrecognizable to Pharynx. The blasts from the transformations have even cracked open the cocoons.

Chrysalis hissed at everyone, but she was clearly outnumbered at this point. The purple pony tried to reason with Chrysalis about taking revenge, trying to get her to change into one of them as well. Knowing Chrysalis, she refused and flew away.

Pharynx, still standing there, with a bunch of questions crashing into his mind was only starting to notice that all the other changelings are happy with this lifestyle. He was the only one hating this. He was the only one who still doesn't want to embrace love and friendship.

He was the only one alone now...

He sighed dramatically. This is ridiculous...
