When C.H.S closes for the night, two unfortunate girls get locked inside. Phones dead and doors locked. In that very night, the two learn more about each other than they ever thought.
It had been a pretty decent day at Canterlot High, until 'it' happened. The one night that would cause Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash to change the way they saw each other for the rest of their lives.
The rest of the 5 girls had left at 3:00, just like most other students at the school, but two of them had stayed behind in the changing rooms after an excruciatingly terrible football lesson. One of the two had been obviously much better than the other.
"Come on shy, there's no way you could beat me at a 1 on 1 shootout. I'm like, the most awesome soccer player at this darned school" said the one girl, who went by the name of Rainbow Dash.
"Yeah...I guess" said Fluttershy, one of her best and most trusted friends, "You we're pretty good out there today"
"Pretty good? I was incredible, the crowd were cheering my name!" Dash jeered.
The 'crowd' hadn't really been cheering her name, there wasn't a crowd, there was the teacher. And the most 'cheering' the rainbow-haired sports star had gotten was a small "whoop" from her teammates when she scored one of her many goals.
"I wouldn't really call it cheering" Fluttershy replied
Rainbow huffed, "Yeah, just cause you didn't play and let in all the goals."
The two girls giggled, this was the case every week, but they didn't expect it to change. Fluttershy was who she was, a shy but beautiful teenager, who never found it hard to be friends with someone.
The two had been fully changed out of their kit for quite a while now, and their conversation had caused them to lose track of time, it had gone from being 3:15 on the clock, to 4:00. The two walked out of the changing rooms, and saw the clock in the main corridor. They gasped in unison.
"Shy! Look! How long have we been in there? Even the janitors will be out of here in about 5 minutes with the keys!"
There was no time to lose, the two flung their bags over their shoulders, and sprinted for the main doors. With every step they lost breath, and by the second floor they were ready to give up, but they didn't. These were two girls that never stopped without putting up a fight.
They were almost at the first floor, where the foyer and the exit to the school were.
"Rainbow, can we *pant* please *pant*, slow down. We're never gonna make it"
"Come on Fluttershy, where's your *pant* confidence, would you rather be a bit out of breath and go home for the night, or spend the night at *pant* this awful place?" Rainbow replied.
"I think this 'awful place', has already answered that question for us" Fluttershy squeaked, her face drenched in sweat.
The two looked ahead of them, and saw the double doors exiting the school, not open, waiting for them to leave, but rather closed, locked and not opening until the next morning. Dash flung her shoulder against the door, and yanked at the handles, but it was no use, they weren't budging. She almost fell over, but stared, open-mouthed, at the horror that they were going to have to spend the night at the very school they loathed during the day.
"You've gotta be kidding me! NO NO NO! This can't be happening! It isn't happening!!!" She shouted, small tears welling up in her eyes. Rainbow slumped into a ball on the floor and put her head in her hands.
Fluttershy hated seeing her friends upset, and even though she felt like shouting her lungs out, she put her arm round Dash, and rested her head on the girl's shoulder.
"We really shouldn't be doing this" Fluttershy said with a reassuring voice, "We're spending the night here and we might as well try and survive before we die of boredom"
This brightened up Rainbow Dash, and she let out a little chuckle.
"Okay then *sniff*, thanks Shy." She wiped her face with the sleeve of her blue jacket. "Look, whatever happens, no matter what the circumstances are..."
"We always stick together, and we never separate ourselves" Fluttershy finished.
The two smiled at each other and shook hands, this was going to be difficult, but they would be able to make it through the night, together.
The two had no idea where to go or what to do. Their phones had been dead for most of the day, so there was no way of calling the police, the school never had any payphones (for obvious reasons). It was official, they weren't getting out until 6:00 the next morning.
Suddenly, Fluttershy let out a scream that startled R.D almost to death. "My gosh Shy! What is it?!"
Fluttershy looked at Dash with a terrified look, and said, "Dash, what happens at 4:30 every day?"
Rainbow thought, and then suddenly let out a gasp, "Oh gosh!! The power! The lights will go out, the windows will shut! We'll be in darkness for the night!".
The time on the main clock in the foyer said 4:28, the girls were scared out of their skins. They had two minutes until darkness fell on them. Two minutes until they wouldn't see each other's faces for 14 hours! It was almost too awful to believe.
20 seconds of light left. The two girls held tightly onto each other's hands, and stared into each other's eyes.
"Rainbow Dash, no matter what happens, never let go of my hand until we find some form of light, I don't wanna lose you." Fluttershy whimpered
"Me neither" Dash replied
"Well, see you on the other side"
This was it, the loud humming noise began, and then all was quiet. Fluttershy grabbed hold of R.D, she'd never been so terrified in her life.
The lights flickered, the humming started, and the lights slowly faded. Then suddenly, they went out completely. All was quiet. It was if the sun had been blocked out completely.
"Shy, you there? Everything ok?"
There was no reply.
She wasn't sure whether Fluttershy was simply too scared to reply, or whether the two had been separated.
"Fluttershy!" R.D shouted", much louder than before.
Rainbow started to panic. She couldn't stand to be alone and away from Fluttershy for 14 hours. It would be unbearable. She had absolutely no light at all, but she'd been at the school for around 4 years, and knew most of it like the back of her hand. She put her hands in front of her and had to try and feel her way around the building. Her heart was pounding like crazy, she was worried what had happened to her friend, where had she gone? Was she hurt? Once Rainbow had 'felt' her way round the technology block, the science block and the maths block. She headed towards the canteen. She was approaching the doors when a small object on the floor tripped her up. Dash landed hard on her shoulder, and let out a small squeal of pain. She couldn't see straight, and fumbled around on the floor for the object that had caused her fall. It was small, round, and felt like it had 3 or 4 buttons on it. Rainbow picked it up and pressed one of the buttons. She couldn't believe her eyes, it was a flashlight! And it was on! She could see perfectly now, and the doors of the canteen were right in front of her. Dash suddenly felt a lot more relaxed, at least now she could actually see straight, and see at all. The doors to the canteen flew open, making a loud creaking noise as they did. It was weird seeing the room without the tables everywhere, it looked like one big, empty garage. Dash called out,
"Fluttershy! Fluttershyyy! You there?"
Once again, silence. Rainbow was ready to give up. Tears welled up in her eyes, she couldn't stand it anymore!
Suddenly, there was a squeak, not a loud one, but Rainbow Dash heard it, and it made her jump. It came from the corner of the room. Was it a mouse? Not likely. The school had been checked for infestations last week. It couldn't have been anything outside, the windows were closed. That could only mean it was...
Rainbow looked in the corner of the room with her flashlight, and could make out a figure, curled up in a ball. A smile spread across Rainbow's face, and she dashed over to the figure. It got up and looked her in the eye. It was Fluttershy!
Rainbow didn't hesitate in the slightest, she ran up to Fluttershy, whose eyes were filled with tears. They both hugged each other and laughed with joy.
The two had never been so happy to see one another. They stopped, and looked into each others eyes.
"Oh thank gosh Shy, I was so worried, I thought I was going to be alone for the night" Dash smiled
"Me too" Shy replied, "I thought you'd died, that's why I was there in the corner, I was scared out of my skin"
Dash giggled, "Why on Earth would I be dead Shy, I'm fine, and I'd never die knowing you'd be alone"
Fluttershy blushed, "I just...I didn't like the thought of losing you. I care about you Dash. I-"
Rainbow stopped the girl's sentence, and put her finger on the pink haired girl's lips. The two smiled, and just stayed, gazing into each others eyes. They shared a hug. Suddenly Rainbow felt safe for once, she was quite aware of Fluttershy's feelings for her, but didn't let that get in the way of the moment. They didn't feel like going anywhere at the moment, they just wanted to spend what time they have together, in peace. The two sat in the corner of the hall, in silence. Fluttershy began to well up with tears, and rested her head on her friend's shoulder. She wasn't sure why, but Dash suddenly felt sorry for Fluttershy. The shyest girl in the entire school, had to spend the night in the dark with only one friend to accompany her. The two simply sat in the silent canteen, where the only noise that could be heard was the mild weeps of Fluttershy. "Rainbow, I know the night is going to be tough, but I'm glad I got to spend it with you". Rainbow Dash simply looked, and gave a small, sweet smile. Her cheeks went mildly red. "Me too, I'm glad we weren't separated, I'd hate it if I was alone for the entire night" Dash replied. The room was silent again. Fluttershy couldn't contain herself anymore, she leaned over to Rainbow, and planted a kiss on her lips. This time both of their cheeks went bright red. There was a deathly silence, the hall went completely silent, the two just stared at each other. Fluttershy was more red than Rainbow, who was taken aback quite a bit, and had never expected that to happen. She was utterly speechless, and emotions began flushing through her. She had no idea what to say or how to act. The moment had suddenly become incredibly awkward "You...wha....you kissed me!" Fluttershy inched away from her friend ever so slightly, "I'm so sorry Rainbow, I didn't mean it. I was just...oh gosh". The pink-haired buried her face in her hands, and began to weep. It had all happened so fast. She inched over to Fluttershy and rested her hand on her shoulder. "Shy, I-" All of a sudden, Shy pushed Rainbow away, and got up, her tears streaming down her face. "I, I just can't live like this anymore! Leave me alone!" And with that, she bolted out of the hall, smashing the doors open as she did. Eventually, the pounds of her feet running down the halls became silent. Dash flew out of the hall too, but had no idea which hallway her friend had ran down. There were almost 5 different ways she could have gone. It would take Rainbow ages to patrol all the classrooms. They's only been together for less than 10 minutes and already they'd been separated again.
It couldn't be happening, it just couldn't. Why did Fluttershy just have to run away like that? She just...fled before Rainbow could say anything to her. Dash wasn't even sure she would've said anything, had Fluttershy stayed. She just couldn't believe it...Rainbow had never even dreamed of getting a kiss from anyone, let alone her best friend. Her female best friend. Who knew a night in the dark could have so much drama in it? Now Dash was going to have to spend more long, boring and tedious hours just trying to find her bright red friend again. "She couldn't have gone that far" Rainbow thought to herself, she'd had a pretty good tail on Fluttershy before she ran out the hall and lost her. Maybe she would be able to hear Dash still.
"Fluttershy!! Pal? Can you just come out?! I want to talk to you!"
No reply...just silence. This entire scenario seemed awfully familiar.
"C'mon shy, at least show yourself, I don't want us being kept apart like this."
Still nothing, for a second or two. Until all of a sudden, there was an almighty crash from the north-east corridor, it almost shook the ground, and made Rainbow practically jump out of her skin. Unless something had fallen over in one of the classrooms, the only other option could've been...FLUTTERSHY! Rainbow darted down the north-east block, and checked every classroom. From what she could tell, Fluttershy wasn't in any of them, which finally led Dash to the staircase, that went down into the basement of the school. Rumors had always spread around the school that the basement had been haunted by the ghost of one of the teachers. Rainbow Dash had always passed them off as rubbish, until now. She opened the door to the staircase, and from the dim light at the bottom of the staircase, she could make out a figure. A shape, lying crumpled on the floor, weeping.
And it didn't take a genius to work out who that figure was.
Rainbow practically jumped down the entire flight of stairs to get to Fluttershy. She had fallen down practically the entire flight of stairs, and it hadn't left her in a good state. Her left leg was twisted in a way it shouldn't be, and her arm was heavily bleeding. Rainbow began to well up with tears as she ran to her friend's side. "Fluttershy! Oh dear Celestia, what happened?!". Dash hugged Fluttershy with all her heart, she'd never seen her this injured before. Her leg could be broken! How would she move? Questions began spinning through Rainbow's mind. But one stood out from them all, a horrible question. What if Fluttershy didn't survive? There was no way of calling an ambulance, the power was out. And Dash wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing her best friend had died before her very eyes. "Oh Dash, please, leave me, I'm fine. Really, I am". Fluttershy tried to get up, but she suddenly felt a sharp sting in her leg. She let out an almighty scream, and crumpled back into a ball on the floor. Tears began to stream down Rainbow's face. She had to think fast, and had to get Fluttershy to safety. How would she get the girl to move though, considering Fluttershy was paralyzed from the waist down. An idea sprang to Rainbow's mind, though she wasn't very fond of it. With all her might, she lifted Shy up off the ground, and onto her back. All the while, Fluttershy let out small squeals of pain. It took around 15 minutes but eventually the two reached the first-aid office. Dash lay Fluttershy down on one of the beds, she looked almost dead, never opening her eyes and barely breathing. Rainbow Dash had never seen her friend this injured before. She took off her white top and wrapped it around Shy's heavily-bleeding arm. At the moment, Rainbow didn't really care that she was sitting there topless in her black sports bra, she had to put pressure on the arm to stop Fluttershy from bleeding to death. Luckily there was a white vest in the corner of the room that one of the students must have left behind. Rainbow slipped into it and surprisingly, it fit perfectly. The room was completely silent, the two simply sat there. Rainbow had never been so scared in her entire life. All of a sudden, Fluttershy spoke. "Dash?" she said without opening her eyes, "Are you there?" "Of course", she replied. Fluttershy let out a small sigh. "I'm sorry for kissing you"
"Fluttershy, no no no. You don't have to apologise" Dash said caringly, "You didn't do anything wrong"
"But I did do something wrong! I kissed you when I shouldn't have! I was rude and disrespectful, and I'm scared to show my face around you ever again!". Dash was shocked, she had no idea that was how Shy felt. She sighed, "You weren't rude at all Shy, that kiss was nice, and honestly, that was my first kiss. I'd never have thought it was from someone as nice and beautiful as you". She walked over to her injured friend, still lying on the bed. Rainbow kneeled down, smiled at Fluttershy, and lightly kissed her on the forehead. For the first time in the last 30 minutes, Fluttershy opened her eyes, she simply looked at Dash, and gave a small, sweet smile.
"I'm sorry Dash, it's just..."
"What is it pal?"
Fluttershy went silent for a moment, then sighed, and looked back up at Rainbow Dash.
"I love you"
Rainbow had never blushed so much in her entire life
Shy spoke again. "I have done ever since I met you, you're just so amazing, the way you look, the way you talk, act, play. Everything about you just seemed perfect. I wanted to spend the rest of my life by your side, but I never told anyone because I thought you were more into boys, and you'd laugh it off if I ever told you"
Rainbow simply stared, taking in every word.
"I always think to myself that I would do anything just to feel your arms around mine, and our lips touching, that was why I kissed you in the hall, because when we sat there together, I felt safe for the first time in my life"
Rainbow had to look away for a moment to hide her bright red face, no-one had ever said something so touching to her in her entire life. She touched hands with Fluttershy, and the two smiled at each other. Rainbow closed her eyes, rested her forehead on Fluttershy's, and uttered four simple but beautiful words:
And so the night went on. Dash and Fluttershy shared a few kisses, and Dash occasionally went out into the canteen to raid a vending machine for food to share. She was quite aware they'd get a mouthful by principal Celestia in the morning, but right now she didn't care. All of her thoughts and emotions were on Fluttershy at the moment. As the night progressed, her love for Fluttershy grew, as she realised what a beautiful and delicate person Shy was. By the time 12:00pm came. Dash was curled up in Fluttershy's arms, the two of them fast asleep. By the time the janitors found them the next morning, Fluttershy was sent to the hospital, and Rainbow was let off the hook on account that it wasn't her fault they had been locked in. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash kept the memories of that night, and their love for each other away from the other girls. Deep down in their hearts, they would never forget it.
