Alright, I know this whole subject is still sensitive, but let's talk about upcoming movie, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls. The movie, set to come out in certain theaters on June 16, is the first Friendship is Magic movie and goes off in its own direction that will not be in canon with Season 4. So here's what we know so far about the plot of the movie.
"When a crown is stolen from the Crystal Empire, Twilight Sparkle pursues the thief into an alternate world where she transforms into a teenage girl who must survive her biggest challenge yet... high school. With the help of her new friends who reminds her of Ponyville's Applejack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy, she embarks upon a quest to find the crown and change the destiny of these two parallel worlds."
Okay, to the movie's credit, this plot sounds way better than the original idea where Princess Celestia just wanted to send the Mane 6 to another universe to learn about friendship there. The movie does deserve some credit for having a story where it sounds pretty interesting. However, I feel that the whole high school thing in this movie is not a really good idea. The whole Teenage High School Drama thing, to me, is overdone and has long since overstayed its welcome. I'm not a really big fan of the whole genre and think it's just out of place for something in My Little Pony. It would be like if I affiliated Star Wars with Ballet, it's just out of place. That's not to say this sounds God awful, I just wish they went with something a little better like an alternative universe where Celestia was actually evil and had taken over and Twilight had to find a way to save that world and find the crown. But beggers can't be choosers I guess.
Let's move on to the artwork and animation now. The set designs do look pretty good for the most part and they seem to be consistent with the art style of the show itself. What I don't like though are the character designs of the show. Admittedly, they designs aren't too bad, but I still have to ask myself this. Why are they all multicolored? If they are all supposed to be human, why couldn't their skin been colored like regular humans then? You could've kept the hairstyles the same color, but they really could've just gone with how humans look like Caucasian, African American, Asian, and so on. These ponies aren't human, they're more like anthronized ponies. Animation wise though, the characters do seem to have smooth movements to them and seems to crisp, so they did a very nice job on that part as well. Aside from my gripe about the character designs, the artwork and animation is really good.
Now I do have have one big problem with this movie, Spike. Why in the name of Celestia and Luna would Spike be of all things a dog? Why was this needed? Spike is an intelligent, well mannered, and helpful assistant. He's saved the day quite a number of times and was even the one who saved the Crystal Empire from King Sombra and got his own stained glass as a result. It's a big fat insult to his character and to fans of him, such as myself. Why couldn't they have made Owlowiscious the dog or something? Why couldn't Spike be made to be like a little brother to Twilight? It's just unfair to see that Spike was reduced to being something like this and it's something I will never support at all. I don't know who came up with this idea, but shame on that person for degrading Spike so much. Even Spike at Your Service and Owl's Well That Ends Well, yes those two bad episodes, treated Spike with more dignity than this act. The only good thing I can see in this is that there are pictures of Spike acting like Courage from Courage the Cowardly Dog, but that's not saying much really. But if this was the best they could do with Spike, then they shouldn't have even bothered to put him in the movie then. I would've rather him be absent than this degrading act.
So, what exactly do I truly think of this movie so far? Well despite my criticisms, I'm going to wait and see what everypony has to say about this movie first. I want to see reviews of what others think about the movie before I go see it. If I hear it's a good movie, I may go see it then. If I hear it's bad, then I'll wait until the movie makes the TV debut on The HUB. If I hear mixed reactions, I'll just wait for it to be shown on The HUB then. For now though, I'm trying to keep an optimistic look on the movie, but it's kind of hard to considering there were some things in the movie that had its potential wasted like the whole high school drama thing. Who knows? Maybe they'll actually surprise us and make what sounds like a bad idea into a really good movie. After all, if Friendship is Magic itself looked bad before it aired and others loved it so much after it aired, then who are we to judge before seeing it? This movie could turn out to be pretty good and I think it's best for those who aren't sure of this movie should wait and see what the future holds for this movie.
So, what is your stance on this movie so far?

I have to agree with >>390437 here in saying this avatar is awesome. Dual flintlocks and golden armour? Dayumn. This community needs more steampunk. In fact, North America in general needs more steampunk.
