The first one the browse is where it can help you search for any type of story you want, the next one the envelope tells you that someone sent you a letter, the next one the globe tells you your feed like what blogs your friends put up or what groups you joined are doing it even shows you what forms your groups show you too, and the last one the bell is your notifications is what tells you who's watching you, who commented on your user page, and who sent you an invitation to there groups.
