When a human clone from the Grand Canyon Province is transported to the Equestrian Wasteland, he finds that his surroundings are not all that's unfamiliar.
2646127 Eh, gotta tell you man, this isn't a Fallout X Fallout Equestria crossover. It is a Fallen Earth X Fallout Equestria crossover. Fallen Earth and Fallout are two different things (post-apocalyptic areas existed before Fallout).
so far its a good story, well written and a few challenges that the majority of the authors here don't do such as the language barrier, though i do hope they dont find some magical way to make him instantly able to understand the local language
so far this is the 4th human in FoE I've read, and unlike two and looking to be three, I'm hoping that this one will continue as the others I've read don't seem to be updating
the primary reasons i like your story to watch it is that its something that I find rare, as far as i can tell the writing is good, and im very curious as to how a human would intereact in a world like Foe
keep it up and im hoping to see more chapters soon
2663933 Thank you for your input, and yes, I do plan to continue updating. The story demands it, and it beckons to me.
One thing that I've noticed is that many stories seem to have both humans and ponies speak a common language, which I've always sort of felt to be BS (that doesn't mean that stories that do this aren't good stories. To the contrary there are many good stories that do this). I feel that this eliminates some world-building and a lot of character interaction, as a lot of interaction can be built between two characters trying to understand each other (or perhaps in this case, simply trying to not step on each other's toes/hooves).
2663962 yup, those sort of things will always lengthen a story
there is one thing I've always been wanting to read and thats a human turned pony in FoE with good reason for the change, i have yet to find something like that
also will you be doing that level up thing that many FoE stories do? i find they often provide some after chapter entertainment
2664066 Well, I had considered it, but ultimately decided not to. Kiako being the way he is could possibly break the system, and it would seem sort of unfair. I had considered creating a custom system for both Kiako Lalene and Finders Keepers respectively, but ultimately decided that it would be too difficult.
The fact that I switch between views of characters (this story isn't just about one person, despite the name and hook) would also make things a tad difficult.
So, does our intrepid hominid have any mutation powers? It would be fairly comedic for him to just revive a dead associate and impatiently gesture for the group to hurry up and get moving like it was nothing.....
Liking the story so far, looking forward to the next chapter.
2716415 Personally, I've proscribed to the belief that Fallen Earth's mutations have a set limit. In my head-canon, reviving the dead with the wave of an arm isn't one of them.
To answer your question, you'll just have to wait, and I'm glad to see that you are enjoying the story.
2933705 It's one of the few MMOs out there with a story I'm really invested in. Decided that the little piece of the Province could somehow make it's way to the Equestrian Wasteland, and perhaps shed some light on the differences between aftermaths of two different worlds.
2967124 Thanks for the catching those errors. I'll fix them right away.
This is the timeline for Fallen Earth, straight from the website:
GlobalTech founded by Brenhauer Investment Group through purchasing a variety of technology companies. 2023: Nanite technology and Rothium kegs developed by GlobalTech subsidiaries 2024: GlobalTech Television Network goes on the air with shows like the Globby Funtime Hour and Microcosm. 2034: GlobalTech acquires the Grand Canyon and surrounding national park lands.
The Vista Society is officially branded a terrorist organization by the U.S. Government.
2040: Brenhauer Investments opens its majestic new headquarters on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. 2042: GlobalTech founds the town of New Flagstaff and the nearby university. 2044: Life Industries, a subsidiary of GlobalTech, develops a fully functional cloning system, integrated with neural-mapping technology.
Morris Hendry, a founding member of the Vista Society prior to being branded a terrorist organization, is elected U.S. President.
2045: President Hendry introduces legislation to de-legitimize the commercialization of the Grand Canyon by GlobalTech. Public opinion favors the move. Congress passes the legislation. In a shocking about-face, President Hendry vetoes his own anti-GlobalTech law. 2047: President Hendry collapses during his State of the Union address and slips into a coma from which he never wakes. Vice President Harry Pembroke assumes the duties as President. 2048: President Harry Pembroke wins re-election with campaign financing from GlobalTech.
Environmentalists and eco-terrorists of the Vista Society covertly infiltrate the Grand Canyon Province, setting up communes far from the corporate settlements. They go unnoticed for several years.
2049: GlobalTech moves its headquarters to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, effectively creating its own little mini-state within Arizona, complete with military-controlled borders. By 2050, GlobalTech is a corporate-feudal state. 2050: GlobalTech opens World’s Fair-style exhibition facility in Grand Canyon. This later becomes Fairground. 2052: The Vistas carry out extensive attacks against GlobalTech. The loss of infrastructure eventually forces the corporation to withdraw from the Kaibab Forest. 2054: The Shiva Virus is released on the world. 2055: Nuclear attacks are initiated in and from southern Asia.
Life Industries orders the lockdown of all LifeNet facilities.
2056: The war in Asia ends because there are not enough people left to fight.
The Shiva Virus reaches North America. Life Industries distributes LifeNet cloning pods throughout the Grand Canyon Province with the intention of becoming a cornerstone of future rebuilding.
2062: Hoover Dam outpost loses all contact with the outside world. The Grand Canyon Province appears to be the sole survivor of the Fall.
The last President of the United States dies. GlobalTech controls the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam.
2063: Shakti first appears in the Grand Canyon Province and founds the Lightbearers. 2066: The Hoover Dam Garrison seizes the Dam and banishes the GlobalTech leaders. Colonel Orsun Masters gains complete control of the Dam. 2090: Colonel Orson Masters raises himself to the rank of General. 2099: General Orson Masters bequeaths his position on to his son, William. 2110: Dr. Benjamin Sillers of the Hoover Dam Garrison coins the name “Children of the Apocalypse” to describe the survivors of the Shiva Virus who have reverted to primitive levels of technology and society. 2116: Dr. Sillers is tortured and killed by Redhand, the leader of the CHOTA. The CHOTA attack Hoover Dam Garrison patrols and outposts. 2126: Forces from the Hoover Dam Garrison attack Five Points, killing numerous CHOTA and some merchants, including the wife of Chikako Matsuo, Shaundra Skilling.
Four months later, the CHOTA retaliate by killing General William Masters. Alec Masters assumes command. The Travelers Summit is held, and the various families unite.
2132: Alec Masters orders the Enforcers to attack the Monastery of the Lightbearers in Red Farm.
Reconciling with Alec Masters, the White Crow Battalion joins the attack as a mercenary force. Shakti is killed, but most of the Lightbearers escape.
2152: April 30th: The CHOTA Revolt occurs. Enforcer and CHOTA casualties exceed fifty percent. The Hoover Dam is sacked and left empty. 2156: Current day.
2967983 So while there is nuclear war, it's in Asia and the world is destroyed by a virus? Interesting. The people at the Hoover Dam, and now wherever they are now, were the only "government" that was basically untouched by the virus.
Now a timeline is good and all, I did see that timeline on the website, but it doesn't really tell me all the little current time details and who's the good and who's the bad guy.
2970375 There are no "good guys" and "bad guys" exactly, but there are groups with questionable motives. Most people recognize the Judges as bad news, due to their ongoing ongoing religious crusade. The CoGs are another problem, extremists that believe that machines are living things (and even try to connect the two, and failing). As for the remnants of Alec Masters' organization, they too are bad news; bio-weapons, nuclear weapons, and other buzzwords are in their arsenal.
As for "good guys", that entirely depends your point of view. The Techs want to restore the technological achievements of the old world, while the Vistas wish to have humanity live in harmony with nature (such as sabotaging destructive technologies or stalking through the woods with sniper rifles at the ready), leading both factions to clash. The Enforcers want to restore order (and have been known to do so via mass killings) to the Province, while the CHOTA are the exact opposite of the Enforcers, wanting to keep the world as it is and not create the same mistakes that the old world did. The Travelers are one of the major factions in the Province, and they are very... economically minded. This mindset clashes with the Lightbearers, who are a faction made up of people wanting to help other people, and are not a fan of some of the things the Travelers do for chips.
(Holy massive paragraph, batman!)
That said, there are factions who are mostly seen as neutral, save perhaps by people/bandits/raiders/what have you that are trying to profit off of them. One of these neutral groups is the Franklin Riders, who are a post-apocalyptic mail service, riding town to town on horseback to deliver packages and mail (they also have a large library of Pre-Fall books, called the Repository). Arguably one of the most important factions to the stability of the region are the Bankers, who maintain the various banks around the Province and regulate the most popular currency as well, poker chips (100 white = 1 blue, 100 blue = 1 red, 100 red = 1 yellow. A few blue chips can buy you a good meal.)
Hopefully that answered your question about that. Or perhaps I missed the point entirely, and if so, I apologize.
2970862 This is more along the lines of what I was looking for, yes. Thank you.
I'd say a mix of Techs, Lightbearers, and a little bit of Vistas would be best. Along with a central government, so throw in Enforcers, I mean really there is nothing stopping the Techs and Vistas working together, you can make clean technology, hell, advanced technology is normally clean unto itself. That's why you see in Star Trek and other Sci-Fi's green plants growing all around factories. If it were possible in the game I'd try to get Techs and Vistas on friendly terms, if they both make compromises it could push humanity into the future even with the apocalypse they'd be closer to "on track" as if it never happened.
But alas; getting leaders to think in the long-term and not short-term is nigh impossible.
2971755 All the factions have their own goals and ideologies. Most of the factions are allied with two other factions, mostly out of self-interest. That said, there are times when they work together when beneficial. Sadly, most of the time it is like the following image below, with each faction being allies with the factions on each side.
Also, about the Techs and Vistas. Vistas are not adverse to using technology, and in fact have a geothermal plant. The problem is that they don't like the way that the Techs try to advance science/technology even when it may have adverse effects on the environment/people.
2971994 I read how the Vistas accept technology as long as it isn't environmentally damaging, that's why I said they should work together with some compromises. I.E. the Techs stop working with heavily damaging technology while Vistas be a little more lenient with the amount of pollution vs. a type of technology's benefit.
(Overall I'd side with Tech/Enforcer group in the game, being that they'll be the ones to make the most modern society and closest to what we currently have.)
as they reminded her of vaguely of the limbs on a spider.
That "of" shouldn't be there, give him the boot!
While the biped may have had half as many legs as she did, its longer legs.
May I suggest "its legs were longer."?
Sniffling noisily as she wiped her muzzle with the back of her hoof, she blinked several times to clear her vision.
Missing a word. (I sort of have a key for corrections; red means a word that's missing, bold will mean misspelled, shouldn't be there, or like the correction above; a bit needs rewording.)
She most likely wouldn’t have to resort for those options, as there were several doorways leading to rooms that she had yet to explore.
Should be "to".

Missing an apostrophe.
Might explain why this thing looks like it could cause an earthquake if it fell off the table; all the hardware in in a single unit.
Repeat word.
Anyway this is getting good. Can't wait to read the next chapter, even if it's 2AM.
Starting to think I should write off this entire town, she brooded, annoyed at the lack of good salvage. Taking her hooves off the counter and dropping back onto all fours, she started rummaging through the drawers, idly wondering to herself why anypony would want to take only the spoons.
Finally! You have no idea how long I've been waiting for a story like this!
2646087 Oh? Do tell by what you mean "like this".
Also, thanks for the favorite and upvote!
P.S. I've been waiting for someone to use that avatar. That time has apparently come.

Fallout-Fallout:Equestria crossovers, they're rare and none have ever been any good.
And I love this avatar, saw it on Derpibooru and had to use it...

Well fuck, I read that wrong. Oh well, close enough...
2646228 Limited nuclear war and super virus does not equal full scale nuclear holocaust, my friend.
2646266
you know what I mean...
2646346
