I don't think I've ever read a story quite like this one. Celestia usually either thinks of the past in such stories, or she gets a vision of some sort.(There are also the Fausticorn ones but that kinda falls into another category.) I like where you went with this. An ancient town, a deep afternoon forest, a matter unresolved until recently.

No matter which version of who's Celestia's mother you care to follow, this works, and works well.
Just a little visit home, to talk to mom. Nothing to get excited about, but something to look forward to.

I know this message is very much separated from the time this story was written, I just have to say that I loved the imagery and would love to learn more about this particular version of history, Celestia's past, and this mysterious village.
