Hooboy, this comment got huge. I decided to lump all my responses into one big slug instead of doling them out piecemeal. Have to admit, it's really awesome having so much feedback to read and respond to to that I have to set aside time to research and proofread my comment! Thanks to all of you for reading, and there's more Bon Hadescream coming soon!

Would you believe that the only Call of Duty game I've played (demos excluded) was the original Modern Warfare? And that only because of pressure from a friend. I didn't even play the "original" Call of Duty games. Back then I was a Medal of Honor player. (Allied Assault was simply fantastic in my opinion.) Octavia's regeneration, if inspired by any videogame, likely owes a nod to the Gears of War franchise. Take a bullet through the gut? Don't worry! As long as that sniper shot didn't hit you in your stylish do-rag, you'll be just fine after a minute or two of breathing heavily behind a sturdy cement wall.
I understand this kind of gameplay is all the rage now with first-person shooters. My original idea behind Octavia's regeneration was the good old trope of Hyperactive Metabolism. I wanted to crank up her healing factor, but also make that semi-dependent on her having enough calories to make that plausible. This also opened up the option for a bit of humor, since a mare who's used to eating poverty rations now finds herself not only constantly hungry, but ravenously so after healing. "Just one more bite wouldn't hurt..."
On a grander scale, I figured swift healing would make living as a ghoul seem attractive to most mortals. It works well in Vampire: The Masquerade! Vinyl may be the only vampire of her kind in the world, at least The Organization certainly hopes so, but there are plenty of other groups of vampires and ghouls. I cover this a bit in the chapter Just Another Night. These vampires dangle the promise of eternal youth, incredible healing powers, and other perks before the noses of eager mortals. The price is addiction and servitude, an eternal struggle against a dominating voice inside your head. Octavia is spared the worst of this because of her strong will and Vinyl's carefree attitude, but I've tried to constantly allude to its presence. Vinyl and Octavia's connection is definitely abnormal, but when it comes to Vinyl, what isn't?
As for Nazi Zombies... don't look now, but they've something rather close to that already in Hellsing!

Bon Hadescream is back because of the readers. I've had the end of this arc bouncing around in my head for over a year now, waiting to be put into words, edited, edited again, and posted. It's hard to cut out the hours needed to do that, but it's gonna happen. One update at a time, I'm gonna finish what I originally set out to do when I posted the first part of We Didn't Start The Fire. I'm not gonna be an author who leaves a story on a cliffhanger if it's at all in my power to complete it. Writing isn't my profession, but I've always enjoyed telling stories. I've also always hated when a story is left half-finished. While I've wanted to complete this as a matter of personal pride, as sad of a matter as that might seem since this is a tale only a handful of folks will ever read or care about, you readers are the reason I set aside other activities and got the words typed into the .txt files. I can't let y'all down, because I know what it's like to enjoy something only to have the content creator turn his back on it. On the other hand, if there's a natural ending point after which more could come but most questions are answered, that's acceptable. To quip from Batman (1966), "The End... The Living End?"
Thanks for reading, and for telling others about the story! Readers like you are why I forced myself to make weekly blog updates while I was unable to write, and those weekly updates helped me stay in touch with the community here while reminding me of my commitment. I'm glad that you're enjoying the flow of the story, that's something I paid special attention to. In fact, I'll usually re-read the final draft of each chapter twice, making minor changes and smoothing out sentences where I feel they're needed. I don't claim to be a great writer by any stretch of the imagination, but I know that attention to detail can add that extra level of polish to even a mediocre story. I even set aside an hour to re-read and edit this long comment, and I'm still not sure I'm expressing myself clearly.
More to come!

Glad to see you're still enjoying the tale. You, yes you in particular, are one of the reasons I started cutting time out of my schedule a few months ago to pen the end of this arc. As for 'crons... I've debated adding this story to the Warhammer 40k group, which I'm part of, but I didn't think it had enough close parallels. That's slowly changed, and I'd love to see the story in that group, but I just don't think it's "fully 40k" enough yet. I'd have to anoint Celestia as a shard of the God-Emperor's fragmented soul reincarnated or something like that... which is fully plausible given the Thorians' Star Child theory and since Faust originally included so bloody many parallels to 40k lore in the core canon... but that is a bit beyond the scope of this tale. I think it might fit into the group's folders, but I'm reluctant to add it since that feels a bit too self-promoting when I'm just borrowing a lot of elements from 40k and blending in other stuff. I'm probably overthinking it, especially given some of the other stories that have been thrown into the "main" folder there, but such is my wont...
If I'm honest, the idea for the "sky fire" and metal monsters came from Syndicate Wars rather than 40k. You may recall, long ago I made a rather cryptic comment about tungsten-uranium rod bombardment. Yes, that has been bouncing around in the back of my head all this time. There's a few other hints in that comment as to why the "metal machines" exist, and their "prime directive". Giving The Organization tech like orbital bombardment felt a bit too overpowered, but steel killers that show up from nowhere and freak out even black-armored Operatives can use hardware like that without wrecking the story. I've always envisioned them as a mythical, destructive force, like a tempest or an earthquake, so while I do plan to trickle a bit more information in future chapters, that will likely raise more questions than it answers. While I have a logical backstory and order of operations for them written down in my notes, that's strictly to keep me straight when writing. Just like a good magician never reveals how he can cut the girl in the box in half and then put her back together as good as new, so the "mundane" explanations for some things in a story are less enjoyable than the veil of mystery.
Besides, there are some things Ponies Were Not Meant To Know...

The source material is plenty bloody and slightly nhilistic, but good fun. I enjoy both Hellsing and the Abridged Version, but I am a sucker for some of the good ol' ultra-violence. I even enjoyed the "original" animated series of Hellsing, the one produced before the OVA that had some radical differences with the final plotline of the series. However, Bon Hadescream also takes some major cues from Warhammer 40k, Vampire the Masquerade, Doom, BlooD, WWII propaganda, and too many hours spent listening to Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, ManOwaR, and Black Sabbath. It's a hodgepodge of ideas with a bit of originality. Yet somehow, people still seem to enjoy reading this blend of mayhem and music. I'm humbled, and I do hope you'll continue to enjoy the story!

Glad to see you're still reading too. And hey, it's not like this is the first time Octavia's been bleeding out over a chapter break. Tune in next week for the gripping continuation! Yes, I've already written it. All that's needed is some editing. God willing and the creek don't rise, it'll go up next weekend.

Naturally, Octavia's rifle is based on Seras' "Harkonnen" Anti-Tank Cannon, which fires 30mm shells. However, I didn't want to focus too much on any specific rifle since I don't want to limit her to a single BFG. Also, since Octavia's character is more focused on the elegance of a well-placed shot, I see her favoring smaller calibers such as the 12.7x99mm with specialized cores. Octavia's much more of a bullet-witch than Seras, so she'll use whatever is available to accomplish her mission.
But yeah. Gotta love them cannons.

I'm happy to see you're catching some of the references and enjoying the story so far! It's always great to read comments from someone who's deriving pleasure from my writing.
That's all for now. Remember, if I don't reply to your comment, it's not because I didn't read it. I might not have any words to say, since you may have said all that needs to be said! As always, thanks to all of you for reading and commenting.
