Following her dream about her friends as Alicorns Sunny can’t seem to be able to get Alicorns off her mind. So she goes to the one creature who knew multiple Alicorns, Spike, and discovers he thinks she’s something she isn’t. Naturally, Sunny feels the need to set Spike straight on the matter.

I’d call Sunny the Pony Avatar. That just seems to be more in line with her character.

Besides, we all know who the real princess of Equestria is…………no, I don’t have a simping problem. Why are you looking at me like that?

REALLY liked the dialogue, characterizations and general wrap-up in this one-shot. Yeah, I could see where Sunny would get the idea of talking to Spike and I did like Spike explaining the reasons for the law concerning Alicorns and royalty in addition to how HE became Dragon Lord.

“Because under Equestrian law, anyone who ascends to Alicornhood is instantly given given a royal title.”

The only issue with this argument is that this is the law of a country that no longer exists given that the pony groups splintered into independent nation-states. Modern society should no longer be beholden to laws of states that don't exist anymore; just imagine the insanity that'd result!

Anyway, this was a brilliantly written story. The themes of destiny and fate certainly struck a chord with me, as somebody who constantly gets pigeonholed into boxes due to my disability.

Precisely. Sunny even uses that argument in the story.

Maybe once a time, but you’re applying laws from a bygone era to the present day.

The idea of a person’s story being predetermined by fate is something that I’ve always hated whenever it pops up in fiction, and MLP is a series that leans into it a lot, so I tried to show just how uncomfortable having such big life decisions being made for you would feel like.

Glad to see we think alike on that one. For this reason I've always disliked chosen one narratives, and I think it's why I connect with Sunny as a character; she's not some 'chosen one', but she matters because she, an ordinary pony, answered the call to adventure and did remarkable things.

Hums savvy phantom theme

“Actually, the correct phrase to say in this situation would be any creature.” Said a male voice from directly behind her.

Yeah ever since they let in other creatures to joining the school of friendship which that's pretty awesome

“Five, to be precise.” Spike confirmed. “Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Twilight, Princess Cadence and Princess Flurry Heart.”

And then you probably met Opaline probably during the past

Sunny’s eyelid twitched several times. Trying to imagine herself as a princess… broke her brain. “What if I don’t want to be a princess?”

Just like when Jasmine says I don't want to be a princess anymore

Spike stared at Sunny in shock. The pony was shaking. She’s just like Twi, the dragon thought sadly. Able to lead her friends no problem, but afraid to step into a larger leadership role.

Yeah I do remember how she really got super nervous about this situation taking a large roll it's a huge thing becoming a leader to a whole country

Blaize turned her head to address Sunny directly. “When a dragon lord retires, the title isn’t given to their offspring or a personally picked successor. Instead the dragon lord calls all dragons to them and holds a contest called the Gauntlet of Fire to decide who will succeed them. An item known as the Bloodstone Scepter is hidden somewhere and whoever reached it first became the new dragon lord. Spike only took part in the Gauntlet once. He had no interest in the contest but was afraid of the prospect of a bad dragon becoming the next dragon lord. During the contest Spike befriended the daughter of the retiring dragon lord, Ember, who ran an interference long enough for Spike to reach the Scepter.”

Well the only reason why he only did that is during that time before we knew about ember garble and the rest of the young teenage dragons are not only abusing the power of being a leader but they're also going to attack the ponies of Equestria but thank goodness for Ember she's actually more reasonable than the other young dragons and also she can protect the ponies and other creatures from any Corruption of the dragons who will dare to attack

Blaize bent down to Sunny’s level and let out a huff of air from her nostrils, which ruffled up Sunny’s mane. Some dragons did this as an intimidation tactic, but Sunny knew Blaize used it as a gesture of affection.

I do like how chill blaize is after defeating Opaline once you get to know her she's pretty cool

Okay that is a pretty interesting conversation between sunny and Spike Okay so I guess it's debatable at this point but Sunny really wanted to tell Spike that she doesn't want to become a princess because she is not qualified since that was just the older time but Spike apparently learn that once an alicorn or a pony became an alicorn or a pony married an Alicorn they are automatically become the ruler which I guess that's a good point but sometimes is that really true I mean I'm sure any Pony or creature can be royalty if they know how to lead I mean queen Haven did lied about the Royals can fly but she wasn't a bad leader but anyway and sunny was becoming a little scared but then Blaize stepped in and told Spike about how he was back then which yes and no but again it's debatable but then Spike realized that he was just putting too much pressure on sunny and he apologized for that okay this was an interesting as I said but very good keep up the good work

A lot of people loves a good Chosen One movie Trope thing when it comes to saving the world from certain destruction and all this good stuff it's been around for the longest time and it's not going away anytime soon it's like a character trying to be edgy and cool Trope thing and again everybody has a likes and dislike

Maybe, but being pigeonholed into a role from your very birth does get quite dull.

Maybe but I guess that's what happens when you're running out of ideas to make the character to do something heroic or something I mean how much can you do especially with the new generation no pun intended like my niece and nephews who are still pretty young like those type of stories

One example I'd like to draw your attention to is Bilbo Baggins. Tolkien could have created a brave knight or a noble king as our perspective character in the Hobbit. But instead he chose to tell the story from the perspective of an ordinary figure, who went on to do extraordinary things.

But I sense we're drifting a bit off-topic.

No I see what you mean I mean I don't really remember from the movie too much I sort of know the premises a little bit but anyway I guess people has a choice what they want to do without being pressured but that's always the hard part as well because when it comes to world changing saving the world type of thing always remember the Pokemon mysterious dungeon when a human got dragged into the Pokemon world to save them

This is a nice short story. I like how Sunny points out that there is no obligation for her to be a princess and that she doesn't want it. Also Twilight didn't do much princess related stuff even after becoming one and when it did happen it was always with the others present as well. At least before Season 9 unless I'm mistaken.
