I can just hear Fortunate Son playing

11739005
Hello Crystonian,

And it was either going to be that, or "Ride of the Valkyries", and I decided to go with the latter, but kept the former playing as I was writing

And what of Austin himself? He would continue to curate the Vietnam War Museum, and serve as a museum guide for many more years before he finally retired, and while he would continue to have a close relationship with Princess Luna for the rest of his life, the two of them were never married. To his dying day though, Austin too never forgot the events of that night in the Vietnam War Museum, nor the war that followed it, and he was glad that he could have given the Equestrians such a big helping hand in the war, and beefing up their military afterwards.

Aw, that really sucks. Thought they would be a de-aged spell, longer lifespan, or eternal youth.

Hello OP Omni God-Emperor of Doom,

And I don't really put things like that into my stories. It's just not my style. Everyone, and everypony has a natural lifespan, (or a slightly elongated one if they're an Alicorn), or in some instances, they have a much elongated one, but in the end, everyone dies eventually.

great story mate keep it up the waffen ss fought the right enemy which was communism after the war they were called war criminals and traitors The irony is from 1947-1991 the Allies fought communism and asked former Waffen ss volunteers to help combat them isn't that a kick in the head can't wait for the next story:pinkiehappy::twilightsmile:

Just hoping to see a happier ending for him to be with Luna. :applejackunsure:

To the West of Van Hoover, a corridor was left open, seemingly by accident as the AVWM Forces were preparing for a move on either Canterlot or Cloudsdale (the Caribou weren't sure), but they decided to use it to attempt a breakout from the city. The Caribou pushed at the corridor with everything they had, seemingly pushing the mannequin forces away, and they broke out with most of their forces, weapons, and equipment, and soon reached open ground, little knowing that they had just walked right into a horrible trap. From above, several B-52's opened their bomb bays, and began to rain cluster bombs down on the Caribou, trapping them in a gauntlet of carpet-bombing. This was followed shortly afterwards by aircraft dropping napalm, agent orange, white phosphorus, and other highly flammable chemicals to finish the job.

Yeah war crimes baby

11739123
True still though why did Luna decide not too?

For many years to come, Ponies, and other creatures across Equus would whisper about Austin, and how the Ponies owed their freedom to him, and his Vietnam War Museum full of angry mannequins and statues.

Well until g5 came out that is

11739483
As you should.

Glory to Luna

11739299
Hello Shining Paladin,

And I remember reading about this guy before. He fought for Finland, Nazi Germany, and the US, known as the "Soldier of 3 Armies"

11739442
I thought about it, and the only reason I decided not to go through with it in the end was because I have a few other stories coming down the pipeline where the MC gets with Princess Luna, so I wanted this story to be different

11739488
I actually would like to see that happen and read what happened when they found out.

11739479
Hello Agent Korpsman,

And that's why Austin was hesitant to go with this plan, because he knew how horrible it was going to be. However, in the end it was the right call to make, as this one action brought the war to a very swift end

And always remember, it's only a war crime if your side loses:raritywink:

11739482
I guess I just decided not to do it in my story

11739498
Hmm. I didn't think about it until just now though, and when OP Omni God-Emperor of Doom mentioned it, as I was more focused on killing the Caribou, which is why I didn't mention it in the story.

epic story, though im sad because the battleships were never mentioned :(
(uss missouri on top, sorry im biased but i have a lego set of the missouri so like, yeah.)

11739657
Someday I might do a short followup story that covers Equestria's recovery from the war, which would cover this, but first I need ideas

11739658
Yeah, it's a bit of a shame

11739603
Hello Ninja_Master6545,

And yes, I mentioned a battleship in the story. At the beginning of Chapter 2, I had a whole scene where Austin was showing the Caribou a 1/72 scale model of the battleship USS New Jersey BB-62 as she appeared in the Vietnam War, as well as what her time there was like. She was the only US Battleship active at that time

Fantastic story. So glad to read another of your works.:twilightblush:

Brilliant story! I'm not a fan of the Fall of Equestria AU as it makes me feel uncomfortable and I tend to avoid fics set within that AU which resulted in me nearly skipping reading this fic, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. I enjoy your writing style and seeing the Caribou get what they deserve is incredibly satisfying.

Also.. Praise be to Princess Luna.

11740057
Hello Extinction,

And I'm glad that you enjoyed this story. It always makes me happy when people tell me how much they like my stories

11740061
Hello Hypnotwist,

And thank you. And I'm not a fan of "Fall of Equestria" either. It never really sat well with me, and I began to wish death upon the Caribou. Then one day, I discovered the then-brand new genre "Anti-Fall of Equestria". This new genre was composed of stories where either the Zebras tried to take over Equestria but failed, or they succeeded, but then an outside force, usually Humanity, intervened, and the Caribou were slaughtered. I myself was one of the early pioneers of this genre with my story "Battleship Express" back in 2017, and there have been a number of stories since where the Caribou get their comeuppance, with "The Vietnam War Museum" being the most recent addition. I'm very glad that you decided to give this story a read, and enjoyed it.

Oh, and if you want to read more stories of the Caribou getting slaughtered, I'd highly recommend you check out the story group "The Caribou Hunters Club". It's entirely dedicated to "Anti-Fall of Equestria" Stories just like this where the Caribou all die

And yes, all Hail Princess Luna, the Best Princess

11739911
oh no, i meant like actually being used in combat, like bombarding coastal cities n stuff

11740251
Hello The Royal Equestrian,

And I'm quite inclined to agree with you

11740276
Oh. Yeah, that would be cool, but in this story, the USS New Jersey seen was just a 1/72 scale model, as the real USS New Jersey was still back on Earth. However, if you do want to see some Iowa-Class Battleship action, I would recommend 2 stories, "Battleships are Magic", centered around the USS Wisconsin BB-64, and "Conversion Bureau: The Last Stand", featuring all 4 Iowa's. I'll also mention "Texas: A Time to Fight!", centered around the USS Texas BB-35 (story ongoing), and "Battleship: Equestria", centered around the USS South Dakota BB-57, but this story has been dead for quite a while, but does have some cool battleship action scenes

11740341
maybe, if i find the time, but ive got a few stories i need to read, and re-read. just got finished rereading arrow 18, good read, sucks theres no sequel.

11740343
Hmm, I haven't heard of that story

Just finished it up and I gotta say that it was great, I really wasn't expecting a horror twist of The Night at The Museum but I loved it, and to see Austin and the troops respected made me very happy, I hope to see more from you.

11740361
I'll be sure to look at it when I have the time

11740406
Hello The Royal Equestrian,

And I'm glad that you liked the whole "What if 'Night at the Museum' was a horror movie" plot of the story, and how Austin and the other museum denizens finally got the recognition that they deserved. And I'm always coming up with new ideas for stories, and continuing ongoing writing projects, so I think you'll always have something I write to enjoy

11740421
Hello bkam,

And really? The A-10 wasn't introduced in Vietnam? Uh oh. I was doing research on it, and I saw it was introduced in the 1970's, and I assumed that it saw action at the end of the Vietnam War, but it would appear I was mistaken

11740506
Hello Hillbe,

And I'm just now learning this for the first time. Up until I began to do research for this story, I didn't know a lot about what weapons and vehicles were used by the US in Vietnam, so I was giving myself a crash course in it, and some of the information was faulty, such as the A-10 being in Vietnam. And as for the UAV's used in Vietnam, and their loss numbers, that came from Wikipedia, so if those are incorrect, don't blame me

11740516
My Uncle Mike got mind fucked in Nam ; 69 Huey door gunner he killed hundreds and He was a neat quiet guy. Wondered the North areas of Washington & Oregon for years. Mike couldn't handle the hate on both sides. Later he moved in with the family and my Dad a vet from Korea
settled Mikes issues. Dads saying was you kill to save others, In Korea they used bodies instead of sand bags. In the 80s I was a OH 58 crew chief crossed with UH 1 and CH 47C and rode shotgun with many Nam pilots... Military Retirement pays that's why they stayed in, Great guys to serve with. As for the story, Keep en coming :pinkiehappy:

:twilightoops::raritystarry: Spike!?
:moustache: Sorry I'm late, Getting blown down to the basement as the castle blew up was a pain, You can thank Discord for it.
:facehoof: The ole portal escape with Discord...
:flutterrage: Nuke the Caribou Capital from orbit, It's the only way to be sure!
:derpytongue2: I delivered a nuke there, I had Taco Bell for lunch!
:rainbowlaugh: Derpy was convicted for a war crime after that...
:trollestia: I got my advice from Paris during the 'peace' talks what a mistake that was!
:twilightangry2: CIA in 68 went self funding with drugs from the Golden Triangle when Nam closed up shop they went to Afghanistan in the 80s and Ukraine in the 2000s... The confusion of war hides the real crimes against humanity.

11740562
Whoa. That's really interesting that your Uncle Mike was not only a Vietnam Vet, but a door gunner on a Huey. As I mentioned in the story, serving on a helicopter was the 2nd most dangerous job in Vietnam, second only to being a "Tunnel Rat". And your Uncle also experienced the PTSD, and hate I talked about in the story as well, which was all too real. And that's also really cool that your Dad was a Korean War vet. I remember that the US forces would use corpses as sandbags, with the Chosin Reservoir coming to mind the most. And I envy you for getting to serve with so many guys who were Vietnam Vets. I'd love to be able to meet and talk with vets from Korea and Vietnam before they're all gone. Same with WW2 vets; in just a few more years, all those guys are gonna be gone. We lost the last WW1 vet back in 2011(?). My Great-Uncle served in the Navy as a radio gunner on a TBF Avenger, and he's now the last survivor of the Battle of Midway, and he was wounded at Guadalcanal. He's 107 years old, and the oldest person in my Family. Such an amazing man

And this made me laugh so hard:rainbowlaugh:

11740585
Mike was in a flight of 5 slicks when the one ahead and the one behind were hit with Russian Strella surface to air missiles.

Steve Groover from the FAA (My FSDO rep) was also a door gunner his story was a gook popped up from his concealed firing position and Steves M 60 was pointed forward with no time to aim,,, Steve thought he was a goner but the helicopter was hovering and the shooter lead the helicopter and unloaded into dead air ahead of Steeves helicopter, Needless to say it gave Steve the time to aim and unload a can of ammo on him. He figured the training of the enemy was lacking. Good for him.

Flew with a guy named Hawk ( Bernard Jaquez WO III) He was a OH 6 driver turned to OH 58 driver, His history started in Mexico as a Lancer (Horse) Infantry rider who hunted bandits at 14 years of age and became a Scout pilot for Nam, He taught me to fly the OH 58 incase he was put out of commission - One flight mission we flew a camera guy from that Army rag 'The Stars & Stripes' over a convoy [Big troop movement] Hawk was busy looking over his shoulder and gabbing with the cameraman when a high line from the top of the mountain came into view ahead of us, At 80 kts and wires that are nearly invisible you react... Hawk was about to curse me out as I pulled pitch and aft cyclic but nothing came as he clicked his intercom He saw the wire pass under the skids by about 18 inches...
I still hate wires to this day... 45+ years flying helicopters.

11740617
Oh my goodness:pinkiegasp::twilightoops:

That's equally insane. Must have been Divine Interventon, or something along those lines. I wonder if there was anything left of the Charlie he blasted the full can of M60 ammo into

Wait, hold the phone. This guy was a Scout pilot in 'Nam, but earlier in life, he was a horse infantry rider who hunted bandits in Mexico?! That's incredible. And that's why a number of modern helicopters have those knife-like pieces of metal above and below them; to take out wires they might accidentally get close to to prevent them from being struck by the rotors.

11740861
WSPS came out later, All we had were radio antennas
(Wire Strike Protection System)

Later in time Floyd Hiser landed on a set of wires, Frost Control El Central CA. Late 80s, Evening after having dinner at a nice café
(Flight of 3 Jet Rangers landed in its parking lot, and then to the fields)
He picked a spot and as he lowered the collective nothing happened. Turns out he landed on a set of wires like a bird.

When I was working at Hiser I made this,,,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRp2uAYWa_A

11740982
And did those work to protect from wires?

Whoa. Did the wires snap under the weight of the chopper?

And wow, what kind of helicopter is this? It looks like a large Air-Hogs toy helicopter

11741161
WSPS only work if you hit the wires head on, Had a Bell 206 hit wires along the 101 FWY it hit at an angle and lost the pc links. out of 4 one survived in the rear seat,

The wire didn't snap, Floyd pulled collective and picked another place to land - wires are usually single strand steel with aluminum conductor - guide wires are worse 3 to 5 strand steel.
WSPS cuts them easy when your lucky, Had a AS 341 Gazelle cut a live wire of 400,000vdc and the arc cut both sides of the helicopter front to back, Landed safely All ready to tell the tale.

That's my own design, Single place, turbine powered, top speed so far 184 mph cruises at 140

11741232
Oh, that's really sad

Ar least the wires didn't snap. And they're extremely lucky they lived to tell about that

Oh. I figured it was a home-built, but I didn't know what it was supposed to be

11739500
And it’s not a war crime the first time

11739504
Oh then what are your thoughts now about it?

11743964
It’s also not a war crime if there aren’t any witnesses, or survivors

11743965
I might write about it eventually
