Ignimbrite

For anyone wondering why I'm here, blame TV tropes.

Sequels2

T

Most ponies are clearly one race, but occasionally, a pony is born into two at a time.

Obsidian Crystal, the horned pegasus, is one such pony.

It probably doesn't help that there happens to be another pony species that looks just like him.

It probably also doesn't help that the only known members of said species happen to be the rulers of Equestria.

...

Well...

This is gonna be awkward...

For anyone wondering, I read a story a while back in which a minor side character had a medical condition that caused him to superficially resemble an alicorn and was curious what it would look like if the main character of a story had a similar condition.

This is the result. I hope y'all enjoy it.

The images of Obsidian and Feldspar were created here and combined via vector graphics.

This story really looks promising, and I like that the main character has a loving family, and is not completely along at the start.

Okay, the ending to the chapter was adorable, just two siblings having fun while their parents are away.

Thanks.

That part is actually something my siblings and I used to do a lot. Also, "no wild parties while we're gone," is something our parents would tell us whenever leaving us alone to run errands.

In a few minutes there was a "roaring" construction paper campfire illuminated by a flashlight and sitting on top of a fan on the floor.

I used to do that with my siblings too

I already love this story!

Apple Bloom arrived back on the farm.

"Her little sis, how was school today?"

"It was fun! We got some new classmates. One's a pegasus, and the other's a chimera."

"That's nice."

Applejack continued three steps before she stopped dead in her tracks, eyes wide...

"What?!?"

Yeah... Applejack would freak out by the misunderstanding

Going a little fast through things but story is good so far. Looking forward to more

Thanks.
I guess I'll have practice with the pacing a bit; thanks for pointing that part out as well.

"So, Element of Honesty, was it?"

Twi being snarky, I LOVE it!

11641718 Spike: "Hey, that's my line!"

(You know, golf TV revenue would go way up if played that way)

Who misses when the news once prints lies and jokes instead of depression and death?

Wait... are they saying he is CELESTIA's child now? HAHAHA

The truth hurts. A couple of muckrakers are going to find that out directly. They're going to need sunscreen, SPF - Yes

..."no wild parties while we're gone"...

ALL parents say that. It is their stock phrase of parenting.
My brother and I usually ignored that... :rainbowlaugh:

11639742
Yeah, I'm curious as f*ck to see where this headed now...

Sweet Celestia, I hope that this story gets finished. I only read it for the curiosity.
Now, I'm hooked...

Damn you, author. :facehoof:

Hmm chimera huh?
Neat
Fun fact long time ago (aka a "game" (more of playable movie) which I believe was made by the same developers as heavy rain) i saw a Situation where a twin that didn't make it in the womb latched spiritually to the other twin
Perhaps you might have that similar situation
Probably not but it reminded me of that case

So element of honesty, was it?

AJ...You know...i dont like people who break their virtues

The pacing feels much better :D
Also highly amusing XD

WELP!
BREAKING NEWS! DAYBREAKER SPOTTED IN PONYVILLE!
And there she goes

That was clever, I like this

Thanks. It was a fun challenge trying to format that so that it would remain intact. The first time I ran preview mode, the whole thing broke down into a jumbled mess.

Will Obsidian and his family eventually know the truth about Sunny Skies and Moonlit Night? Heh

The backwards letter gave me a headache just trying to read it.
So, my big question is, if Celestia is such a great monarch, why did she leave her saddlebags on the train? That is just a bit too scatterbrained, even for her. I get that she and Luna are quite nervous about things, but even that is too much of a silly coincidence for Celestia. To me, a minor plot hole, yet important to the narrative.
As silly as the premise of the tale, I do like it. Have a moustache. :moustache:

11645480
Thanks for the mustache.

To be honest, I didn't really like the thought of her simply forgetting her saddlebags either; it's just that that was the only excuse I could think up to make her unable to prove her identity. Fortunately, I did find something useful (or quite possibly incredibly dumb) to do with them later, so the plot hole won't go completely to waste.

11645596
And I respect that. I understand that a writer has threads woven throughout the story, and sometimes those threads may be meaningless initially, but might later have some importance. I'm old enough to understand that, hiving read about as many volumes of fics than Twilight has. Hell, I'm darn near seventy.
I do write, but rarely. I'm not good a spinning a yarn. My writing is best at music, not prose.

And yes, I am looking forward to more of your story (amongst several other stories I am tracking...) :moustache:

Uh oh... what could she have forgotten?

Most ponies are clearly one race, but occasionally, a pony is born into two at a time.

Obsidian Crystal, the horned pegasus, is one such pony.

It probably doesn't help that there happens to be another pony species that looks just like him.

I haven't read the story yet, but I do want a explanation on something...How are the other 2 possible 'chimeras' identified? Given Earth ponies don't have any outstanding characteristics besides being sturdy and good with plants, wouldn't the other two be assumed to be a Pegasus or unicorn?

This is just a curiosity and not a criticism of the story because as stated, I haven't read it yet.

11646388
Theoretically, there would be six possible chimeras: earth-earth, pegasus-pegasus, unicorn-unicorn, earth-unicorn, earth-pegasus, and pegasus-unicorn. Of these, only the last one would be easily visibly identifiable. The other cross-species chimeras may potentially display hybridized magic, and others in general may have unusual coat or eye patterns, but otherwise, they would likely grow up completely unaware of their condition. Only a genetic test would indicate for certain whether or not they are.

The use of chimerism originated as an excuse to make him resemble an alicorn without actually being one. Everything that came afterwards, like the eye colors, magic traits, and ponies assuming his condition refers to being the monster of the same name, was all extrapolated from what that might be like.

11646328
It probably has something to do with how the letter got to her in the first place.

11646388
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm tempted to make up characters who are the other two types of cross-species chimeras just to see what life would be like for them. Not sure what the stories for them would be about though.

Spike is Best Troll.

Seriously? Another freaking photo journalist? That's too much. Seriously.

This story is getting ridiculous, in a good way.

How many more misleading news stories before the truth comes out, lol

This is some Looney Tunes shenanigans.

11646425
Why stop there? You got zebras, kirin, bat ponies, hippogriffs, griffons, kelpie and the zebrican two horned pony. Also the Saddle Arabian ponies. There are all sorts of hybrids that could exist.

11649601
Good point. That would be really fun to try.

Time for the truth I hope, finally! lol

Gotta love that old phrase there will be no excuses. I doubt that was 100% true when the teachers were foals and its still not true for a multitude of reasons

Things seem to be wrapping up

Rereading parts almost can't help but wonder if Kind Face isn't a changeling

A single missed detention the hallmarks of a REAL Troublemaker watch it or he'll be the next villain of the week

Prey animals instinctively know different is dangerous. It's hard to overcome base impressions.

Wild is in the eye of the beholder. 🎤
