JEEZ RB! You know I'm kinda hoping this horror thing comes in handy whenever you do another RD and Rares mystery tale cause you got a talent!

This is damn good! I enjoyed it immensely.

Fucking amazing piece of writing.

I thought this was going the route of "the Mortuary Assitant" at first.

All I can say is, I feel bad for Luna.

Will chew on this one a bit more. Really appreciate your description of the procedures, as someone who studies a similar path to Dr. Mortis here. The twist was sadly a little expected, but it doesn't take that much from the spookiness of it all. Kinda stays with you, with that sense of unease too. Might need another read later.

I normally wouldn't post something like this, but for some reason I really want a continuation of this where Luna makes her return. Top tier horror elements. I really liked the imagery of her veins/arteries rising from her body, very disturbing.

I can't believe you spelled "colour" wrong. Wow. . .

Seriously though, excellent writing. I enjoyed it.

MEAT ON THE BONE

Disgustingly brilliant. Well done.

I think "colour" is also accepted, but I may be wrong...

Oh God.:facehoof:

Thanks for clarifying. XD

Hell of a way to find out about alicorn biology.

How fantastically horrifying.

Well that's going to make one hell of a post-mortem report.

Delightfully horrifying and gripping in the details
Stupendous job

You have no idea how glad I am to hear that. I put a lot of research into this fic, so I’m happy to hear it paid off.

Get British’d, nerd!

I had to skip through most of the dissection bits because, well, lol nope, but enjoyed what I was able to stomach. Pun intended.

Extraordinarily well-written. You've done a great job of researching pathologists at autopsy. Dr. Mortis would fit in well with our medical examiners. Passion and dispassion are a tough balancing act in this line of work, and she represents it well.

I'll vouch for the authenticity of the exam, as well. I could see it. I could hear it. I could smell it. Everything that happened in the autopsy suite except the last - and, Lord, what a horrifying mechanism for Luna's resurrection... (That's more of a personal issue, though - I've been on the job too long.)

I don't normally go in for horror, but this was well- done. Congrats.

Now this is an interesting story, I love the concept. I only wish you had posted it during Halloween because it would have gotten more attention and honestly is better than most of the stories I read during that time.

Cool concept, well written, and very well paced. Mechanically speaking, the story's brevity was especially good; getting this thing down to 5k words must have been a bitch and a half, but the effort shows and hasn't gone unappreciated. Well done!

Would you believe me if I told you I actually increased the wordcount while editing?

We can't escape the creep, no matter how hard we try! :raritydespair:

Jokes aside, I liked this a lot. Your attention to detail was gruesome, but impressive. Reminded me a lot of Doctor Manhattan's rebirth. A lovely read, dare I say.

That was glorious.

I don't usually comment on this site but this was the most uncomfortable yet fresh feeling read I had in a while. Just off putting enough to make me to take a few breaks from it.

10/10 - would not recommend this for desert. /s

I love this and how accurate you got it down.

this was a damn good piece of body horror! i really appreciate the fact that this was a clinical situation, a study into a dark subject for the sake of discovery, rather than just gratuitous gore! it gives the story some actual meatiness! (rimshot)

Well this was a great read. Intensely disturbing, and fairly damn spooky, but most of all? Extremely uncomfortable.
Well written, and well edited. Thanks for sharing!

Are you a doctor?

I am not, but I consulted with one when planning this fic.

I found this story to be incredibly uncomfortable to read through and I loved it.

This kinda sounds like that Alicorns are like Phoenixes in this, and I do like it.

Great story, it's a 10/10, and I would not recommend reading while eating.

This gave me a deep understanding for how one of one of my own stories may end up and I thank you for the imprecation.

I don't usually read horror fics, but here I am. Delightfully enticing hook, followed up by incredible clinical detail. Disturbing, but in the kind of way that draws you in. And then, of course, the end bit occurs. Quite spooky in its own way, that. Well writ, wordsmith.

Damn. Now I'm really curious as to what happened to Luna. Magic fight? Flew at the speed of sound into a wall?

Also curious as to what actually brought her back, she states she felt she was at peace, but what disrupted that? Was it the dissection? Just general realization of death?

I almost want a sequel but I'm not sure how that'd even go. A reunion for sure (unless her death was in a fight with Celestia, though filly Luna's words that "I cannot imagine what this has done to my sister" kinda ruins that theory), then some really in-detail talk about death.

Playback of the recording (Luna appeared to have moved to look at the camera, perhaps she tried calling out too)? probably. Would there be any other voices?

Are there consequences to cheating death like this?

Aaaaah so many questions.

Adding this to my "Read Later" list. I think that I'll need to read something a lot more light and fluffy before tackling this one.

The good Doctor should talk to Celestia and Twilight about his findings. Something like this indicates that SOMETHING separate from Luna's will is mending and regenerating her flesh back into shape. This could be true for all Alicorns. One thing is the mind and soul wishing to not die and having enough will to exert the magic to mend the body even from the outermost edge of death. Another is whatever the fuck this is.

I think it was a Magic Mace.

Huk

That was disgusting! ... in a good way, I mean :raritywink:. And I'm glad it turned out Luna was not really dead :yay:

Huk

11423384

Since she's living with Celestia now, my bet would be Luna ate Celestia's cake without asking, and Celestia got a 'little' upset :rainbowdetermined2: Her alicorn strength would explain the crushed skull :unsuresweetie:

11423632
gruesome, but kinda wholesome at the end, give 'er a shot

dr mortis really should of been taking pictures when that happened, but I think I understand his reaction XD

brilliant work

I mean... all's well that ends well? :rainbowderp:
I wonder what would happen if she was cremated.

11421383

Honestly dude I'll say it again. You got a REAL good talent for this. And I'm super excited to see more from ya. Either from Detective Rarity or hell even if it's just more oddball stuff like how this was! You really are damn good at this.

Morbid curiosity brought me to this story.

Morbid curiosity brought me to the end of this story.

And now curiosity has me wondering what consequences are going to arise from Mortis' blood being added to the mix during Luna's resurrection.

This was really visceral and gruesome. I loved it!
The way you made body horror and your interpretation of alicorn lore meet was a really good, unique touch.
There are many stories that make the feature box, but yours definitely deserve to be seen by the maximum amount of eyeballs. BIG upvote.
