Thank you my rabbit friend.

That was a good story.

How many eyes do yah see?

Nice touch. "How many hooves am I holding up?" isn't the most viable concussion test.

“For the one time a year we end up walking in the rain?”

I mean, it's your fault for not bringing umbrellas when rain was on the schedule.

And that's the thing. "Freak weather accident" doesn't work well in a world where pegasi were assembling the thunderstorm earlier in the story. Yes, life is fragile and death can strike at any time, but the vagaries of nature lose some of that ineffable sting when somepony probably got fired for that lightning strike. (Something blowing in from the Everfree is a possibility, but again, that explicit mention of weather workers putting clouds in position makes it clear that this was prearranged.)

And then there's the kids. Remember, the point of this prompt was to feature the parents without their children (or, really, their role as parents,) and the Apple siblings aren't just scene dressing here. They're a key part of the emotional climax. It's close, but I have to say that this one edges too far into territory that you explicitly weren't supposed to explore. My apologies, but I have to disqualify this one. Still, thank you for the entry.

A good story, though I feel like more focus should've been on Bright Mac's guilt over Buttercup being cut off from her father. And it seems kind of weird he'd be having those feelings by the time he's gone and had three kids with Buttercup.

Better review then deserved honestly, considering it was disqualified from the contest it was meant for and written in a few days.

Totally agree with your take on the ending, if I could go back I’d rewrite the ending entirely.
