Caovia has been torn asunder by centuries of warfare, the Caovish Wardens and Mesean Colonials fighting over mud, blood, and ash with no end to the carnage in sight. Something unexpected is coming for them though, something that will change their histories and the histories of nations they yet to know even exist.
Connor Devins, a Sergeant in the Caovish Army, is put on a night raid of their opponent's trenches. Armed with a trusty rifle and his experience, something that is a precious commodity in these times, he goes out into the dark.
In celebration of the 1.0 release of Foxhole, I'm going to try my hand at a military fic. No I am not and have never been a soldier or had experience with the military in real life, nor am I an expert on Foxhole lore or even FIM lore so liberties will be taken there. I will, however, accept any criticism and/or knowledge of mentioned subjects so I can better the story
The exposition opening hurts the pace and blunts the hook. The story could have started at "We were getting desperate..." and been more effective.

Then this story is sunk before you even started. Too many authors do this when it comes to the military, and the stories are never very good because it's painfully obvious the author has less than zero idea about what he's talking about.
Even more so if you don't know much about FIM lore. Being an AU helps in that regard at least.

Some books to try might be "To Conquer Hell" (Lengel), "Catastrophe 1914" (Hastings), "Storm of Steel" (Junger), "The Price of Glory: Verdun 1916" (Horne), and "All Quiet on the Western Front" (Remarque).

Good story I felt like it needed be longer and more detailed. I recommend The big red one novel by Samuel fuller a great ww1/ww2 story.
