Returning home from a long trip, Adagio Dazzle has to go down a familiar route, but this time, her mind is plagued by questions of the future. Especially her future with the girl she's dating, Sunset Shimmer. Unfortunately, the night has a way of swallowing those with insecurities whole. This was the wrong night to question her reality. All it takes is one light to make everything go dark. One red light. The question is, "Will she find her answers by the end of the night?"

Hello, everyone! This is a short story I've had in mind for a while now~ I've always wanted to try my hand at a horror story, so this is my first attempt at it~ I acknowledge this story probably seems rushed or could have used a bit more in places, but I do hope everyone enjoys this! I couldn't fully commit to the horror by the end, as you'll see, but I still tried to make it scary~ Stay special everyone!

Short but tense very nice. My one suggestion is the road should be asphalt and not concrete.

Is this canon or stand alone?

Thank you~! This was my first shot at horror and I have other ideas that will implement horror into them, so I'm glad you liked it! And I will make sure to change it to asphalt in the morning~

To be honest, I'm really surprised you're so invested in my story to even ask if this is canon~ XD But to answer your question, this is another stand alone story~ The only sequel I've published so far is Siren Days, so I will notify audiences what the next story is after that~

A good way to kick off the Halloween season. You said this was noncanon, but the fun thing about well done stand alone stories is that I can imagine this as part of the other stories you've done. Just a little aside that no one talks about. Glad I final got time to get back to some of your stories, shimmering heartbreak is next. Hopefully it doesn't break my heart to badly.

Thanks for the comment! I'm glad you like this short story~ And yeah! I suppose you could look at it as canon in some ways. In general, though, the only stories that are canon as of now is A Dazzling World, A Shimmering Heartbreak, Siren Days, and Follow Suit~ I do hope you enjoy A Shimmering Heartbreak~
P.S. Don't worry~ I have another plan to celebrate the Halloween season~

Looking forward to it:raritystarry:

The dark night outside my vehicle makes the flat grasslands around this road seem intimidating… Even though one can see for miles in every direction around them, it almost feels like something is watching you. That something could appear at any moment. Or it could be invisible to you… I always hate this point of the drive back home. I’ve had to go to these conferences five times now and it never gets easier right here. Even though there is little wildlife and a mostly easy drive through this area, it is just disturbing. Hours of uninterrupted silence, darkness and loneliness. It always feels like something is watching me and my thoughts… My thoughts laid bare to whatever is watching, making my most trivial issues obvious… Like my jealousy. Or anger.

You have to do what you gotta do for your job Adagio, my dad does it all the time whether it's home, at work or somewhere else. :applejackunsure:

I can’t believe I’m actually admitting I’m afraid… Nothing should scare a siren like me. Right? Especially not the darkness… Isn’t it pathetic? To feel scared of the dark and the unknown? I… It’s not a good look. Why can’t they fucking see me? Are they even out there tonight? They are usually posted somewhere nearby. The moment I need a little help, they’re not here… It’s… It’s alright. I’m sure I can find out the cause of this problem. I’ve been stuck in worse situations before. You’re just letting the wind get to you, Adagio. Take a deep breath and calm down. Nothing is going to happen…

Being afraid of the dark is a common thing Adagio. It's nothing to be upset about.

My father had to do the same thing too~ It's kind of where I got the inspiration for the "long drive home" aspect of this story. I also love surreal psychological horror instead of jumpscare horror.
And yeah, fear of the dark is common, but Adagio still has that sense of pride to her that makes it hard for her to admit that. Her thoughts are so jumbled that she is trying to not think about her fear of the dark, but it's really everything getting messed up. Her fear of commitment, the future, her friendships, the unknown and the dark all getting jumbled together. Ultimately, this spirals into this story~
