Lord Blundergosh

God of all monsters.

Rarity was in for a long haul. She only had a couple weeks to complete what was turning out to be her biggest commission of the year so far. And on top of that, she had to babysit Sweetie Belle and her friends for a whole stormy week!
Thankfully, Spike has come to her rescue by handing down to her a magical device Twilight and Sunset created connecting to the so called “World Wide Web” of the human world. This is supposed to be able to keep Sweetie and her friends occupied while she works on her latest project. Apparently, it’s even able to read bedtime stories to them!

This story was inspired by Rated Ponystar’s Student Six Watch Fallout Lore: The Storyteller Series. The story that introduced me to the concept of reaction fics and one that I recommend you read sometime.

If you aren’t familiar with the Bedtime Stories channel on YouTube, I highly recommend you also check them out. Its the perfect channel for this eerie time of year that I’m currently writing this story in.

Aliens. Conspiracies. Cryptids. Ghosts. Strange Deaths. Mysteries. Other Dimensions.
These are all things both you and the CMC will experience as they sit down for some good ol’ Bedtime Stories.

For those concerned about the tags, I want to make it clear that the tags describe events that happened in the real world and that neither the CMC nor any other characters in this story suffer any tragedy. (Except for Twilight when she finds out that Spike gave away her only access to all of humanity’s knowledge.)

Hope you love what I’ve written so far too!

I won’t give much away but AT LEAST one of those stories are going to be featured.

I usually don't like "characters react to" stories - I think the concept is just silly - but Bedtime Stories is one of my favorite YouTube channels, since I'm a sucker for paranormal stories. I think I'll keep my eyes on this one.

Giving Scootaloo the slyest side-eye imaginable, Apple Bloom quipped, “Ah guess by awhile ya mean two weeks ago?”.

“You’re lying! She wouldn’t admit-“, Scootaloo began before covering her mouth with both hooves after realizing what she had confessed.

I want to see this story now. Rainbow Dash reading to Scoots would be really cute.:rainbowkiss:

“Dang it! I was gonna also ask where West Ver-jin-ea was.”

Now I want a series that's nothing but ponies watching human shows on this thing, and the stories and misconceptions that come out of it.

“Oh that? I once found a picture of seven humans in Twilight’s desk and I asked her what it was.”

It makes sense that Sweetie Belle would be the one invasive enough to figure this out.

Also the text this bit is a part of is a pretty massive chunk of text, that could stand to be broken down for easier reading.

First time hearing about the Bedtime Stories YouTube channel. Characterization seemed fine, at least nothing stuck out at me as OOC. Looking through the YouTube channel, I wouldn't mind seeing you cover the Men in Black episode so that they won't be confused about them if they get mentioned in the future.

I feel like a bit more detail in the written descriptions of the videos would be more helpful personally. I honestly love the conversation details that from the outsiders POV, it would be easy to assume that the "friendship missions" were covers for something else.

Gently interested, I hope to read more of this in the future

P.D. Any reaction fics that you recommend me read

Why would the Crusaders be so perplexed about films when they obviously went to a movie theater in "One Bad Apple"?

11012473
Oh, yeah. I know that they showed in the Babs Seed song sequence that movies exist in Equestria.
But, I’m just ignoring it.

Listening to the clip clop of Sweetie’s hooves going down the steps, Apple Bloom finally let loose a sigh of relief. She absolutely did come here to listen to her sister be accused of doing sinister things like deceiving the public or intimidating innocent ponies. That’s who she was.

Might want to change this, if the idea isn't to have Apple Bloom be mistrusting towards her sister.

Does the story focus purely on CMC reactions or do you plan to add characters in different stories?

11014791
Oh, you’ll see some different characters getting in on this as well. :raritywink:

11014307
No problem! Interesting bit of characterzation here.

Probably just a episodic thing, but it would be interesting, if these stories start to affect the CMC mentally.

11017444
Well, if you think back to the beginning of the chapter, it’s already sorta affecting one of them so far.

“Haven’t you heard of the saying all obsessed, lovesick psychos love to use? If I can’t you, no one can .”

You might want to add a 'have' in there.

This is interesting. I want to see what you do with this story.

11023977
Thank you! I’m sure you’ll still find the path this goes somewhat interesting.

I loved this one! I look forward to the next!

The Crusaders seem pretty familiar with the police. Which is funny because I don't recall ever seeing police on the show. Overall, a good chapter, there are some grammatical errors though.

Accept this time, it was somehow even more all consuming.

I think you meant 'Except this time'.

And there was another but I just couldn't find for the second time.

Anyway, good chapter. Looking forward to the next one. Until then...

11028400
Thanks for point that out. Got it fixed.
And to answer your question, there doesn’t seem to be any police in Ponyville. However, there is a brief moment in the show where a few of the mane 6 interact with a police mare. It was in Manehattan

11028430
I see. Thanks.

One more thing. If you ever choose an episode which includes a shout out to the sponsors, please don't include that part.

Flight 19 would be another good one for the crusaders to react to

I was thinking "The man from Taured" would be a good one because to the CMCs they know other universe's exist but humans don't.

“Huh. Looks like Twilight was right. Ironclads really are the navy’s future!”, Sweetie Belle said, recalling the demonstration of Equestria’s first metallic battleship back in June, where the cutting edge war machine sank two out of four retired Equestrian naval ships before it inexplicably broke down and had to be hauled to the docks for repairs.

Are we going into Equestria at War territory now?

“Oh, yeah. What did tell you?”, Sweetie chirped.

Did you mean "What did she tell you?"

Honestly, the fillies getting into real world politics and history is making me uncomfortable. Just the idea of the CMC discussing soviets makes me cringe for some reason. I like crossovers but there are some things that just don't mix.

11039522
Relax. I’m not trying to get THAT serious. It’s unlikely that they’ll ever have enough context to have that deep of a discussion on human politics, anyway.

11039522
Oh, by the way. Nah, there’s no war on the horizon. It’s just Equestria experimenting with new technology. All just a test.

“We probably shouldn’t be that surprised that these cops suck at their job. I mean, have you seen the royal guard? When have they ever done a good job at protecting Equestria?”, Scootaloo asked rhetorically.

I mean there was that time with Cozy Glow. And then... hmm... Yeah I've got nothing.

Scootaloo and Apple Bloom both leaned back slightly, somewhat taken aback by how intensely Sweetie Belle was getting into this story that she had no personal connection to.

She proberbly identifies with the victim.

Supposedly hypnosis messes with memory. It can make you believe stuff that may or may not be accurate. Same reason Truth Serum isn't more of a thing. But I'm no professional when it comes to things like that.

So, is there a depraved murderer walking free in British Columbia to this day?

Wrong question. The question you should be asking is is Cindy James murderer walking free in British Columbia?

11044274
To address that last question, that’s literally a quote from the video. Also, I’m pretty sure it was saying the same thing your were just differently; it was asking whether Cindy James’ murderer is walking free in British Columbia.

11044324
I figured that it was a quote. Just the inaccuracy got to me is all.

I'm still surprised only the CMC's thought of the first wife of Roy as a suspect.

11044452
That’s cause I would have guessed the same thing if we didn’t have the other, more popular, suspects. (And the possibility that Cindy did it all herself). Especially considering that female-sounding voice on the phone.

I’m loving their misunderstanding about princess America!

“That’s dumb!”, Scootaloo spoke up once more. “That’s like if we made rainbows out of blood drained from pegasai. Who’d do that?”

I see what you did there!

So after the mysteries of the third reich what are you going to tackle next?

11054338
I’ll give a small hint in the footnotes of the next chapter.

Loved the update! I’m amused by their realization that New York is an alternate manehatten. I really look forward their reaction to a ghost story!

11061134
That one is good, but if I do it, then it’d be practically mandatory for me to do the Dyatlov Pass Incident and I’m not sure if I want to do that. :applejackunsure:

Good interlude. Nice to see the bedtime stories are making them paranoid!

11073186
Maybe not so paranoid... Remember the 'human world' isn't exactly ours, but the world of the Rainbooms. There is magic there, just weak and hidden. The geodes are the human world's version of the Elements, after all...

What's to say the human world's cryptids aren't real? Manticores and Chimaera exist in Equestria... Maybe the Mothman does too?

When you mentioned it earlier that other characters might get involved, I thought maybe Rarity would take a break to watch one of the episodes with the girls. But it looks like that won't be the case.
