Prologue
[ Onboard the Princess Bride headed north]
The large pleasure air ship cruised over the mountainous terrain headed north towards Griffonstone. The ship had met up with the Waning Moon at one point for an escort across a patch of territory where a large number of bandits were said to be located. The Night Guard's new warship was constantly on the move rooting out bandits and raiders along Equestria's borders.
The massive warship had veered off after the escort to go deal with another problem that popped up further along the border.
While the Griffons were supposed to be allied with Equestria, the fall of the nation years ago had caused all sorts of problems with bandits and thieves. Princess Celestia forcing the nobles back into their own country had caused even more problems and there were not a few of the former rich birds that were out on the street after being robbed blind by those they were supposed to be ruling over.
Celestia had used it as an example to Equestria's nobles of what happened if they pushed their pompousness too far.
She did set up the soup kitchens though and life for Griffons who were citizens of Equestria didn't change in the slightest.
“I must say this is quite possibly the strangest thing I have done in some time.” Prince smirked looking down over the side of the ship to the ground far below.
“What? Had your butt glow and then get sent on a epic quest by a tree?” Pinkie Pie asked.
“.... actually that's pretty much spot on, thank you.” Prince offered as Rainbow Dash giggled.
“Ah don't worry about it, trips paid for by the crown cause of how important it probably is. We've got a full compliment of Guard on board and you got me an Pinkie coming along, and we can handle about anything. “Rainbow Dash shrugged. “And what we can't handle, that's what we gots us a Rahs for.”
“Where is he any way?” Prince offered.
“Same place he's been all trip, up on the front of the ship posing and letting the wind whip though his coat.” Pinkie Pie gestured to the front of the ship and the moon dog standing at the bow his arms crossed as his long coat billowed dramatically behind him.
“ So help me if he does that top of the world thing I'm gonna push him off.” Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes.
“I thought you liked that movie?” Prince asked.
“Trottanic was great, but the freaking door was big enough for both of them!” Dash ranted.” And afterward everyone was doing that stupid pose.”
[Ponyville, Seshat.]
Twilight was at a loss for what to do.
She had passed on the newly adjust Familiar spell after making sure Shining was one hundred percent in the clear.
His magic level had increased further as had his durability, stamina, and strength. All were on par with Sombra and Sunset, the only physical change that was noticeable was that he was a bit taller and one of the stars of his cutie mark had become pink and heart shaped.
Iinii had gone out of his way to get the spell and was currently trying to convince Maohk to accept the spell. A discussion he seemed to be winning.
Celestia and Luna also had access to the spell, though neither claimed to really have any one they would use it on at the moment. Still they were wary about passing it out to too many creatures. At Celestia's suggestion Twilight was holding onto the spell until she was sure all the kinks were out of it. And Celestia was planning to only let it be offered where it might have the most advantage.
Another council meeting would be held in Canterlot in the spring and Celestia planned to fully bring it up there.
Celestia was using the spell as leverage against a few particular gods who were issues and bring them over to her side in some votes. Others would be offered it as a gift for their continued alliances.
Twilight really didn't care much about it and left the politicking to the Princesses.
Granted none of that was why she was at a loss.
Right now she was at a loss because she asked Big Mac if he wanted her to cast the spell on him.
And without any hesitation, he had said no.
She had expected something like that from the earth pony farmer, though it still hurt.
So for the moment Twilight simple sat in her room staring at the ceiling at a loss for what to do.

It didn't mean he does not love you. Immortality is something that mortal mind has a hard time to accept. So you better savor the present as much as possible instead of sulking in your room.

I wouldn't say the CMCs "missed their destiny." They just found another. And at this point, who's to say whether this new path is objectively better or worse for them? That's the thing about Harmony: it has contingencies for its contingencies.
Twilight… you forgot the checklist for having a pony familiar.
Step 1: Get engaged
Step 2: Get married
Step 3: Talk to husband about idea of immortality
Step 4: Cast on husband after he agreed.
She skipped steps 1 & 2.
Big Mac could be saying no for the simple reason that he thinks the spell's proper use is on a spouse.
He's "just" a coltfriend right now. Granted Twilight and him have been together for some time and they are quite close, but they are only dating at this point.
Plus he can't tell Twilight that's his reason for saying no, as he knows it would change her decision making about everything regarding their relationship.
Once their relationship officially becomes "till death do us part" he may very well ask her to cast the spell.

No, cause what people call 'Love' is actually just 'Lust'. Marriage, and real 'Love', is when two people agree to work together to be together. Wiling to work together, dispite their differences and negative traits.
From Twilight and Big Mac, we mostly only see Lust, not actual love. The fact Big Mac won't even become immortal to keep her company, even if they don't end up staying together hundreds of years later, shows he doesn't actually love or care for her at all, and only cares about himself, his beliefs, and his morals without care for hers.
She needs to find someone actually willing to stay with her, through thick and then, who can love her for her, immortal, and willing to share that immortality with her.

Fair enough. I'd say that's going to have to be a season 6 episode pulled back then, because I don't see how any of the remaining season 5 episodes can be easily re-worked to include an invasion. Mind you, I wouldn't have called "Crusaders of the Locate City" to be a multiple homicide investigation before it came out either, so I might well be dead wrong on that.
Yeah Twilight jumped the gun a bit there. Not like it is a no forever, just a no for right now. Who knows it might be forever or it might not be.
I think in a way this could be a good opportunity to explore Twilight and Mac's relationship, so I'm actually really interested to see where you go with this little rabbit.
I think it would be funny if Twilight, being smart enough to understand this doesn't mean Big Mac doesn't love her, so she has a classic Twilight moment and spends HOURS drawing up flow charts on reasons why Big Mac doesn't want to be immortal before Seshat could suggest she simply ASK him
And for the record regardless of that putz Jirodyne says I've seen plenty of evidence in the last five books that Big Mac feels more then just lust towards our dear Book Horse. The less said about how disturbingly one dimensional his/her thinking seems to be on subjects as complicated as love and marriage the better

I... have you ever been in a real relationship? This and your other comment have me sincerely doubting it since you seem to have this idealized vision of a special someone as being someone who precisely shares all of your ideals, among other things. Your reaction here is pretty knee-jerk and would make Twilight seem shallow and insecure, making wild assumptions about what one thing may or may not mean without bothering to wait or ask, which, while she may be a little off balance mentally, she isn't either of those things. This feels more like projection on your part, really. That said, she also got into a relationship with Big Mac well before she was a goddess and has been shown not to be happy about the whole goddess thing anyhow. I mean, how can BM love her "goddess half" if she even doesn't? In a relationship you are supposed to accept your partner as they are or not at all. That doesn't mean you have to love every aspect of them, just that you accept that it's a part of the cohesive whole that you do love, and that you can't change it and shouldn't try. On top of that, as has been mentioned, this spell is still experimental, and Big Mac is a practical, mindful pony who would not, in fact, rush headlong into forever as you seem to imply he should. Maybe he doesn't want to outlive his entire extended family. Maybe he doesn't want to live forever because the thought of forever terrifies him. Maybe he doesn't want to be around long enough to see the entirety of life demystified before his eyes and watch as eternity stretches on before him, knowing that it's been hundreds of years since he's done something new and that he's grown tired of watching the universe pass him by as he survives with a cadre of those few who survive until the heat death of the universe, hoping and screaming into the dark abyss silently that time loops back on itself because an eternity of the darkest void imaginable is a fate that's infinitely worse than the welcoming comfort and nothingness of oblivion and death. Man, who's to say? People are individuals, and just as many people who would have a reason to want to live forever, there are many more who have some very, very compelling reasons not to.
Really, I would say to try to gain more social experience and grow from this one-dimensional view of romance and relationships, perhaps even empathy if you have such a difficult time seeing Big Mac's perspective, but I presume there's a reason you haven't already, and I'm not going to bother spelling it out further.

You might want to go see a therapist. And here I thought I was messed up in the head and cynical. If that's really how you view love, I truly do pity you, because however long your life, you'll spend it alone thinking like that.

For all my issues with the story's tendancy to blame everything on Celestia... (versus the far more blameable Jerkbeard the Starswirled.) She does have some good ideas too.

I keep comparing this Twilight to Enigma Twilight from iisaw's The Alicorn Mysteries Trilogy +1, mostly due to the two being about on par for 'scariest and most OP version of Twilight I know of'. When she found a way to make the other Mane 6 immortal, AJ was the only one who turned it down. Almost certainty for mostly the same reasons as Big Mac here.
