It's a just a simple favor. Surely Starlight is more than capable of doing it. Especially if she's rewarded with Great and Powerful Cuddles.

God I need to play Myst again sometime.

This was fucking glorious. Brought back tons of memories. Fear (I was so freaking afraid of getting jumpscared), confusion, frustration... I had to get the guide from the library just to complete the damned thing!

... I honestly have no idea what the fuck I just read. In a good way I might add. But I honestly don't get what this is a crossover of or what the point of all Starlight's suff was.

It sounds like a game. But I've never played it by what I read.

Myst. It was a very, very confusing game with no hints on how to proceed. Starlight's adventure pretty well sums up the experience.

That helps, as much as it can anyway. I know the game Myst at least, but only in name. Never played it myself. Probably never will.

Out of all the things to feel nostalgic about, I was not expecting this. And yikes, if that was how it felt to play the game without a walkthrough... Yeah, no wonder Starlight took a break.

(Heck, even with the guide, I could never figure out that slider puzzle with the piano. Seriously, what even the crap.)

Delightful little tale of one of the most patient mares in Equestria.

Oh it got worse as the game progressed. There was a fucking maze at one point that had no map. And it was a node type maze with up to EIGHT different directions you could go. Myst was a massive exercise in frustration.

To be fair, you could get a clue to what the sounds meant from another rotating puzzle that used similar sounds. Not the same sounds, just a mostly similar set with I think one different. Also, the puzzle is located in an entirely different Age. Also, you can't leave Ages that you've entered until you manage to complete them. Also, you can do the Ages in any order.

Even WITH a guide I could never get the slider to Selenitic to work just right.

Oh, God, a MYST crossover? My sister and I played MYST, RIVEN, and EXILE, and read the three-part book series. It's a staple of my childhood. I might not have a choice but to add this to my RiL.

On a related note, fans of MYST should probably try Obduction.

With Starlight, you have flawlessly captured the experience of playing Myst. Well Done!

Fallen into a book of Myst, seems like

I think I'd hate being stuck inside this book as much as Starlight does

And then finds out there's another island ..?

She didn't throw it across the room, at least.

Ponies and mystical books *shakes head*

Can’t imagine how much of a pain the static was to write :rainbowlaugh:

“Trixie wishes she could distill [the color blue] into a drink and pour it down her throat!”

Starlight better hope she never gets stuck in the Fifth Age, if she has this much trouble with Myst.

Although it would be pretty funny to watch her try to figure out the marble puzzle.

Congratulations, you've just solved the FIRST puzzle! Out of... well, quite a few actually.

I take it from the tone of this comment that you haven't read Aitran yet? That one is a far more in-depth story, and it has sequels covering the other games! It's also the reason I own them all, as a blog post notified me of the Kickstarter behind rereleasing them all on Steam. And, yeah, that does mean they're all on Steam now.

Ooooh. I must investigate. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, this is pretty much every Myst player ever, right before they look up the online walk-through.

No explanation or recognizable references going on here, huh?

I was a veteran of infocom text adventures. I grabbed my trusty pad of graph paper and started drawing maps and clues and pushed buttons until something gave way.

It was two hours *later* that I started searching the game packaging for the little booklet with the invisible ink hints in it
