You know what? Fuck it!

'Better to have died than to have not had sex!'

Hey changelings, hear about the sensation sweeping the nation: sodomy! Good seats still available:rainbowwild:

Always good to see more bugbros! :pinkiehappy:

Just as a sidepoint, you may want to utilize the 'Alternative Universe' tag. Ocellus has unique parents introduced and confirmed in 'A Horse Shoe-In'.

Were they though? :ajsmug:

There sure were a couple of adult changelings sitting next to her. Yeah.

But were they her ~ p a r e n t s ? ~

10021489
:pinkiehappy: No, but they did show up to 'parent teacher conferences', so it's at least more canon than all other alternatives. :raritywink:

*Drinks the tears of 'Chrysalis is everyling's mom' theory advocates*

AH! But then so did Grandpa Gruff, whom, Gallus himself says, is not his father. Yet he was there!

And Applejack is an example of an older sibling being the caretaker of a younger one. (Granny Smith notwithstanding).

:rainbowwild: And? Just because Gallus's case is non-parental doesn't mean Ocellus's is. The MLP wiki and the Gameloft MLP mobile game cite Spiracle and Carapace as her parents.

10021544 I haven't played the game in months, so I'll take your word for it.

In A Horse Shoe-In, Ocellus watches Big McIntosh sew in Rarity's class and appears again during the parent-teacher conference with her parents and Octavia Melody.

You win this bout. I'll tag it AU. :ajsleepy:

But I offer one final counter-point:

Jim Miller: "Yup! Although, since they’re bugs, I’d imagine they’re technically all related."

And really, that's all that matters to me. :ajsmug:

:duck: My headcanon as it stands is that Chrysalis forced all the hive's young to be raised together under her watchful eye, as to ensure the future generations of the hive became the hard warriors and loyal followers she wanted. This explains when Thorax said, 'I was raised by an evil queen' in his debut episode, as it does showing Chrysalis among the hive's larvae. She raised them all, but she didn't birth them all.

This sort of method has real world parallels. Ancient Rome took young boys away from their families in order to raise them as warriors from a young age. Civilians had to comply.

Fast forward to Thorax becoming king, and he starts to refer to the hive as a 'pack' (Ember conflict episode) instead of a 'swarm', as how Chrysalis referred to them in S2. Pack, as in pack animals are mammals that live in tight-knit communities and help look after each other as a sort of massive family, even if not all of them are direct family.

So I think Jim's comment fits perfectly. The hive is likely all related on some level, but direct family still exists, I.e parents and siblings. Now that the hive is reformed, parents are involved with their nymph's lives again, as demonstrated by Ocellus's parents coming to her parent teacher conferences.

At least that's my standing! Sorry for the block of text, I just love to share and discuss lore.

No apologies! I delight in these sorts of discussions. It was my pleasure.
You presented a compelling argument with your interpretation, well grounded in several cited points of evidence from the source material itself, and directly related sources.
My interpretation served well in this story's particular narrative conflict. But yours is certainly much more in line with the feel and tone of the world in the show as we have seen it. And it certainly helps the show be able to avoid answering 'where do the grubs come from now?' without reforming Chrysalis.
And to undermine my own position, I am honor-bound to point out that my cover art is cropped to hide the younglings shown in that very Hearth's Warming Club episode.

The evidence it incontrovertible. It is very much an AU story.

Fun read, keep it up.

Holy shit people still use this site and by god shakespearicles is still active

Well damn! That a nice way to give someone a great Heart warming.

But cant they un stone Chrysalis to harvest Royal Jelly?
Seriouly if the Races future is at the very stace fuck morals...

Or maybe make a deal with her. ( for more royal jelly or ecen better a Queen egg/nymph ).
They get a Queen as replacement for Chrysalis and she get a handfull of willing drones wile accepting Exile.
Just having 2 Queens for a hope Species is insane... After all, losing her almost get em extinct!

Brilliant name for a story!

most excellent!

He wrapped his hooves around her and kissed her cold, granite cheek.

"The hive. Needs. A Queen! Thorax!" Pharynx yelled.

Probably a princess or duchess or something. A female to bear his brood... not entirely a queen, but like said, a princess or duchess..

For a fertile changeling, their ovipositor was the means by which they laid their eggs inside a host.

Only females have ovipositors (freshly Googled).

Can you please explain how breeding for the purpose of creating offspring works when there are males with no females?

Males don’t have ovipositors. At least not ones that function like a female’s.
