A... A Shape of Water Fluttercord AU story?
Give me a pen because sign me the hell up.
And it's also incredibly well written, with a nice grim and mysterious tone, and gives us great atmosphere. I mean, I sped through 9k words like it was nothing. Beautiful writing here, seriously, I cannot stress that enough. My only criticism right now is that sometimes the tense will change from past to present and vice versa, and it's kind of jarring sometimes, but only because that's a gripe of mine. Just make sure to keep consistent, that's all!
Also, I'm incredibly happy that this isn't just a copy of Shape of Water, and it's in many ways its own unique story, from how the story incorporates the My Little Pony elements like magic and such to how the plot progresses at a different yet still appropriate pace. It's written not on screen, so of course the pacing is different, but that gives us such a nice, refreshing experience. I've sadly read fanfics that are just word-for-word copies of stories they're taking inspiration from and it's sooo disappointing. Wasted potential. Not here, thankfully.
Dear god you have no idea how into this story I already am. I am also curious how much will change to this story from the original, since it's clear you're making your own thing while still basing off the overall premise. Such as Fluttershy not being mute—given that their ponies, I can't imagine sign language is easy to incorporate, so that's totally okay. But like does Discord speak at all? Does Fluttershy effin die? Does Discord eat the cat?? I don't expect answers at this instantly, obviously, but still. I'm a curious cat!

Just a quick note though: I would describe Fluttershy as a yellow mare rather than a pink mare. Usually when you mention a horse or pony's color, they refer to the coat, not the mane. You could put "pink-maned mare" though. No big deal though!

I am loving this fic so much, this is what makes a great adaptation.
You gave such an excellent portrayal of Fluttershy to make her different from Elisa, making the story already standing out.
The story is relatively as the same as the original, but that’s what I expected, yet thanks to your usage of characters, you made it so much more enjoyable to read.
The descriptions and dialogue are also on point!

Absolutely loving the story so far.
The writing is gorgeous, the detailing is done wonderfully, and the characters leave me wanting another scene with them immediately every time they're on screen. The world design sits elusive, only as defined as it needs to be by that point in the story, but well-written and interesting enough that I am eager to hear even the slightest bit more about it. There's enough intrigue and set-up to fuel a full-length novel in just these first three chapters alone.
This is definitely looking to be a wonderful story in the making.
I am left desperate for more.

This is the best thing that ever happened to me, I truly missed read high quality fluttercord fanfic like this, you know with an inspiration like the shape of water. I truly hope that the next chapter doesn't take that long but no matter what happens I'm sure is going to be worth the wait.

This chapter was especially good. The interactions between Discord and Fluttershy, their growing trust, and the mystery behind what this institution wants with Discord made it hard for me to pause while reading. I love the bond that Fluttershy and Discord are slowly starting to form, and I'm eager to see where this goes.

I freaking love this fic. All these interactions between Discord and Flutters are so cute. Plus, it's great to have a situation where Fluttershy is the one saving Discord, not the other way around.

Great chapter! It was nice to see a little more small interactions between Fluttershy and Discord (I loved his reaction to her bringing chocolate!), but it was wonderful to learn about Discord's past. His identity felt like a very good way of incorporating his canon background into this AU.
The fact he's psychically reaching out to Fluttershy is interesting...I can't help but wonder if that connection will grow strong if they're physically closer.
It's good to see that Dr. Hoofstead also cares for Discord in a way, even though Discord likely doesn't trust him one bit. Hopefully he and Fluttershy can pull off their plan to save him...maybe even help Discord be able to speak again!

Honestly I've been waiting all month for this chapter and it was WORTH IT.
I seriously can't wait for see how fluttershy and miles are going to get discord out, although I've already see the shape of water so I have an Idea, but imagine how it would be implemented in this really drags my attention.
Also it truly was difficult read discord's torture at the beginning, poor thing :'(.
Anyway, another beautiful chapter and as always can't wait for the next one ❤❤❤❤

I liked this chapter—it acts as a good bridge between Fluttershy learning what's going to happen to Discord, and the hopefully-successful draconequus heist in the next chapter. fingers crossed
Reading about what was happening to Discord was hard...your writing was so good and descriptive, but what's happening to him is just so terrible...and Strickler and the General don't even care that he's a living being, I...
Seeing Miles' hopes and heart get crushed too was also rough...but, at least Fluttershy's there for him, like he's now there for her. And in upcoming chapters, they can both be there for Discord.

Yes! THIS is the chapter where both stories merge to make a unique blend of the two, and I am loving it.
Now we know why Discord can't talk and why they put him in a tank of fluids. Now we know that he will talk. Now we know all of it, just like Fluttershy.
And I cannot wait for more! You are writing this perfectly. I can tell how much thought and care you have put into this.
The scene with the chocolate though? That was the best part. Even without magic, boiled eggs and chocolate are enough to make a chaos god like you.
The telepathic link is a more original element to the story that is interesting. It sounds like now Discord may need to teach Fluttershy to trust him... once he's talking again.

All of this chapter was hard to read. Every single thing. It's just like in the movie. I look forward to seeing how you write Discord's voice (if he gets it back) and telling her about this. To be a spirit of chaos and to be brought down like not only a common animal, but one that is *abused* and *taunted* like he's part of some sick game... And I wonder what kind of link he's actually made with Fluttershy. Just how reformed is he already? If at all? Is this a game or is it true, and what does Shy think? What does *Discord* think? After all, she could be reforming him indirectly already. And because he's so desperate for any kind of help--a situation he may have never really had before--maybe he now realizes that abusing creatures like playthings (though I imagine Discord never took it as far as these power-hungry egomaniacs are) is something that really isn't fun anymore if you understand the other side of it.
As for Miles... Oh, my heart. It was a really sad and difficult scene to watch in the movie and it is still hard to read. You wrote it a little too closely, and it hurt so bad. I always felt so much for Miles.
A hard chapter all the way through, but that's also an indicator of how good a writer you are. I'm excited for the rest!

Every now and then I come back and check on this fanfic. I hope that it gets fully completed as this is my favorite story to reread over and over again. :3
