"You've sent a letter that asks if a family can gather seeds for their farm. Seeing another source of income you agreed. If it occurred to you that the broad words used could potentially include the bellflower seeds, one crop among the others of your land, they only grow in two places. It wouldn't matter if they tried to grow them. I knew that you, Mr. Bloomberg or your family would never sell them to me. Even knowing they couldn't be grown elsewhere. But I did know you would be perfectly fine exploiting a small family of farmers."
"Hahaha!" Shades laugh echoed through the grand halls and bell towers. A deep and cold thing, more than a little foreboding. "I think you're forgetting some crucial details Mr. Forge." His voice traveling across the room with a much lower tone than usual. "It was those Guilds and Nobles that stifled my work for nothing more than their own greed. Lining their coffers at the expense of progress. Raised efficiencies in material refinement, metallurgy and more were kept quiet because it threatens their already-established infrastructure. Healing potions driven to prices only the rich could afford because the ingredients necessary was in a cornered Market. Gold over the health and well-being of their fellow kind. The prototype magically drawn carriage I gifted to the Princess would have taken 50 more years to produce if they and their ilk have their way. Not to mention what that implies."
I think this more than anything proves he cares about Her Ponies, does he get something out of it? Yes. BUT the ponies get the most, affordable health potions, jobs in trading fleets and factories, more growth in farming and much more.
"I wasn't aware there was a potions market, nothing past the internal trading and purchases of the Alchemists Guild." Celestia stated as she looked to the Captain.
Celestia, you couldn’t see your own sun though your ass if given a torch!
I am honestly wondering if she only hates him because he has done more for her country then she wishes to admit....... or now that I think about she is acting like a rejected lover, did she fall for him at some point but he rejected her for some reason? It would make sense given context.
Nah, I think she might be jealous of his accomplishments, but I would not think this is the result of any romantic aspect.
Edit: I've actually wondered (in a Watsonian manner) if maybe the reason he only got romantically involved with some of the mane 6 is because he is familiar with the show, he just arrived way to early.
It’s been brought up that he has rejected all romantic ties, who is to say she wasn’t one of them?
I can understand rejecting normal mares as he is immortal and having a romantic relationship with what is basically your boss is a no-no, more so when said boss locked you up without hesitation.
Honestly? Look at who he has gotten involved with. First is Pinkie Pie, the happiest most go lucky pony in the show bar none and one who wouldn’t jump into a relationship without knowing that he is a good person.
Then we have Fluttershy, she has to see SOMETHING good in him to even consider it AND feel safe around him.
Then we have Twilight, a Celestia worshipper to the core and a bookworm, she has a thirst for knowledge at the cost of being socially and romantically stunted. She wouldn’t normally do anything that would go against her mentor and yet she has taken the plunge with him!
Hmm so cutthroat I love it

So Celestia is a t-sun-derriere?

Stone fucking cold, LOVE IT! I CRAVe MOREE!
It was a short chapter, but I still like it a lot.
the ruthless and coldness of human politics and business.
Why is the first chapter so disproportionately long compared to the rest of the chapters?
Because my readers found the length to be a bit excessive.
